“NON-PARTISAN” SECRETARY OF STATE RITCHIE ATTENDS DFL EVENT FEATURING “HANOI” JANE FONDA
By Michael B. Brodkorb | November 14, 2007

A dedicated reader of Minnesota Democrats Exposed sent me picture they took of "Hanoi" Jane Fonda and "non-partisan" Secretary of State Mark Ritchie. Ritchie attended yesterday's DFL Feminist Caucus event featuring Fonda.
Complete election results are still not appearing on the Secretary of State's official website, yet Ritchie has time to stroll over to this DFL event during the work day.

Plenty of time for partison politics, not enough time to actually do his job. My school board election results are STILL not up on the SoS site. As a matter of fact, they tried to drop District 277 from the drop down menu. But you can still find all the zeros when you look up the data using Hennepin County.
Good work, Richie Ritchie. Cover up the fact that you and your staff are inept bunglers.

Hey I wish that nonpartisan office will answer my emails. I even sent a reply expected Tuesday November 13th on Sunday. You figure with all that time he has to see Jane or fly to Washington he can do some other duties such as answer letters from lawmakers, get all the election results updated, answer emails from the citizens of Minnesota, etc.

This guy is a tool. Why does he try and hide who he really is?
November 14th, 2007 at 2:12 pm
I wonder if Yamin will say this photo is a fake as well?
Just another liberal we know is corrupt as all hell. However as long as he has a “D” behind his name, liberals will defend him to the end.
November 14th, 2007 at 2:18 pm
Don’t worry Walter. You’ll get an email response.
It might be from his campaign.
And it might be asking for money.
But if you submitted your email address to this official office, I’m sure you’ll hear from them.
November 14th, 2007 at 2:23 pm
I’m a little young (way too young to remember), but didn’t she single handedly cause the torture of some of our troops during Vietnam?
Why on earth would these DFL elected officials honor her and pose with her?
November 14th, 2007 at 2:23 pm
An event that he arrived at after 3:30pm and then went back to his office.
I’m sure I couldn’t find Mary Kiffmeyer SPEAKING at a partisan Pro-Life event in 2005. Yeah, I bet I couldn’t find her actually taking days off from her ‘non-partisan’ office to go to say, umm, Washington DC for a partisan event supporting the then Republican Congress. Naw, we wouldn’t find that in 2004…
Nevermind, I just remembered that with Republicans its not what they say or do, only what you say or do.
November 14th, 2007 at 2:34 pm
JD,
As Republicans I know reading too much can hurt you. Jane was targeted more so for her consistent anti-war activism (not very Christan of her- wait- VERY Christan of her!) and outspoken feminism that has been consistent for 40 years.
In 1988, Fonda admitted to former American POWs and their families that she had some regrets, stating:
“I would like to say something, not just to Vietnam veterans in New England, but to men who were in Vietnam, who I hurt, or whose pain I caused to deepen because of things that I said or did. I was trying to help end the killing and the war, but there were times when I was thoughtless and careless about it and I’m very sorry that I hurt them. And I want to apologize to them and their families. [...] I will go to my grave regretting the photograph of me in an anti-aircraft gun, which looks like I was trying to shoot at American planes.”
I know its not good enough and hell, we don’t forget or forgive 40 year old mistakes. Unless, its proof that our current President and Republican leadership found various ways to avoid going to that war. Various, unique, creative ways to wear the Chicken Hawk badge.
November 14th, 2007 at 2:34 pm
Dumbing it Down for your info I sent his campaign committee an email also and haven’t got a response. Apperently once they have a 100% positive verifacation sending an email or letter is pointless they adopt that standard.

It’s clearly a cut out of Ritchie!
November 14th, 2007 at 3:41 pm
DJZ, thank you for your response. Right on.
November 14th, 2007 at 3:41 pm
Hey DJZ…when will your hero Richie Ritchie actually do his damn job and get the election results up for my distict? This year? Next year?
Its nice to see you know his schedule so well. Is there any time in there for him to DO HIS ACTUAL JOB?
Oh yeah…he’s a DFLer…good intentions only matter.
November 14th, 2007 at 4:15 pm
JD It is too bad that because you are too young to remember, an important part of history is being skewed by the likes of DJZ. Ask any Viet Nam Veteran about Jane Fonda and if they thought Hanoi Janes apology was in any way shape or form sincere. If you google Hanoi Jane you can read the transcripts of her radio broadcasts, see her traitorous pictures for yourself and read the actual transcript and circumstances of her apology. You will also see some of the “Urban Legend” stuff that has sprung up but it isn’t really nessesary because what she really did was so horrific in itself. Then look up the definition of treason and ask yourself why she is not in jail. Your question “Why on earth would these DFL elected officials honor her and pose with her?” is exactly the right question to ask.
November 14th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
Rudy you are exactly right. That piss poor apology came after she wronte a book she wanted to sell.
She also will not admit all the vets that have been showing up to protest her. Instead the drive by media claims the vets have forgiven her and all is well in liberal land.
I live next door to a vietnam combat vet, I can assure you he has not forgiven Jane and no one he knows has either. he hate the local DFL almost as much… no wonder I like my neighbor so much.
November 14th, 2007 at 6:11 pm
DJZ, notice how Hanoi Jane, that #(_$&# TRAITOR only apologized for posing for the picture? She didn’t apologize for calling our soldiers liars and said that they weren’t being tortured, or any of the other things she was responsible for.
Also, she only made that halfassed apology so veterans would quit distrupting the filming of her movie she was in the progress of shooting then.
November 14th, 2007 at 8:47 pm
I was raised in a very conservative church but we always were taught to forgive people. Jane Fonda has apologized for her behavior as a young adult. As a Catholic friend of mine noted to me yesterday at this event, the same church that has forgiven the Pope for being a member of the Nazi youth when he was young should forgive Jane Fonda for her stupidity in her youth. Time to get over it. If anyone listened to her remarks yesterday she spoke about the chair she has endowed at Emory University Medical School, the glass ceiling for women, how far women have come yet how far they have to go. Nothing controversial, frankly. Ask your GOP videographer. She stood in the back with her video camera. She was welcome – as was anyone. (And, please, don’t lecture me on serving in the military. I grew up in the military and I did serve – in a war zone, too.)
November 14th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
He was there to collect another batch of emails from which to beg money.
November 14th, 2007 at 10:15 pm
West Metro Liberal-
Your Catholic neighbor sounds like one lousy Catholic- GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT on the Pope– Um- Nazi’s KILLED PEOPLE who didn’t step in line in Germany in the 30’s and 40’s….membership in that organization was REQUIRED BY LAW and the Pope wrote about it in his autobiography.
Jane Fonda- on the other hand- was a rich, privileged, brat, so desperate for her father’s attention-she still whines about it to this day in yet another self-aggrandizing book- (she’s a born-again now you know.) Out protesting the cause of the day “Vietnam” in her bad shag haircut – and getting our soliders killed in the process. You see SHE-unlike the Pope- had the good fortune of being born in a free country. Ah, the irony.
I love how people can say terrible things about Catholics — no need for political correctness there. What a jackass statment. And I love how Jane Fonda is the guest of choice for the DFL Feminist Caucus– Barbarella marrying man after man for money and power…yup, it fits.
November 14th, 2007 at 11:22 pm
Caption: Jane, You were great in Barbarella!
November 14th, 2007 at 11:43 pm
Not defending Fonda here, shozzy, but your characterization of her “marrying man after man for money and power” isn’t accurate. She was already established as an actress when she married Vadim in the 60’s. Hayden didn’t have a pot to piss in and she made a boatload of money on her own from her excercise videos long before she hitched up with Ted Turner. Plus, with Turner she basically gave up her acting career while married to him. I don’t doubt she enjoyed the money but it was hardly a power grab.
That being said, her actions during the Vietnam war were dispicable.
November 15th, 2007 at 12:09 am
My apologies- she just married man after man
November 15th, 2007 at 12:47 am
Tell me who Jane Fonda killed again? Tell me who she tortured? Tell me what decade we live in again?
November 15th, 2007 at 3:35 am
Don, I don’t care what decade it is. I’ll forgive Jane when the Jews forgive Hitler.
November 15th, 2007 at 7:03 am
Such as the logic of the Right. Jane is Hitler?
Hitler planned mass genocide, and raised an army.
As a young woman out of pure ignorance, Jane said some things that may have caused torture.
Jane apologized. Hitler took a whole continent down.
That’s the same.
Shozzy, you didn’t join the NAZI’s or get killed. That’s one of the lies by his ‘Popeness’ (someday I’ll like Catholics to explain the Pope thing to me. Seems to me Christ said something about believing in him- no in between needed.).
You may recall there was a German Army that was separate from Nazis. You may also recall, like the former Pope, millions rebelled against the ‘Master Race’ and ‘One World Government’ of the Nazi’s. With German Ancestry being number one in Minnesota, more people got the hell out. People who joined the Nazi Party actually believed the shit Hitler and crew were peddling.
November 15th, 2007 at 8:28 am
Honestly, why we’re getting our shorts all in knots over Hanoi Jane is quite silly. She’s been a has-been for decades.
As far as this “apology” goes…that was 1988. Now that she’s the Queen of the Nutroots, flapping her lips like a babbling moonbat…I’d like to know if her opinion has changed back.
Hell…it took her only 20 years to “apologize”…she might be ready to “apologize” for that “apology” now.
November 15th, 2007 at 8:29 am
Jane Fonda never tortured anyone????
Remember those shots of her and then-husband, Atlanta Braves owner Ted Turner during coverage of the 1991 World Series against the Twins?
If that wasn’t torture seeing those dopey mugs on a 27 inch TV screen, I don’t know what is. My eyes didn’t sting that much when I had Lasik surgery.
November 15th, 2007 at 8:30 am
Thanks DJZ- I’ll pass on your explanations of my religion you anti-Catholic bigot- like I said it’s the last religion you can openly bash. So keep it up. Because I can tell you are like so well-read and like um so intelligent.
November 15th, 2007 at 9:05 am
Well…at least Pope Benny wasn’t a Grand Wizard in the KKK. Joining the KKK was voluntary, unless, of course, you are an aspiring politician, I guess. At least that’s Bobby Big Byrd’s explanation.
November 15th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
Really Shozzy? The last one?
You must be a Bishop because I only questioned why the need for a pope when the teaching of Christ say… All you had to do was answer or ignore the question. Now you’re crying anti-Catholic bias? Brother, the church has given us plenty to be turn our backs on in the last century BUT, I wasn’t going there.
If you are going to whine then you have to get your lines together. Today its all of Christianity that people can openly bash. I never heard of anti-Catholic bashing except…ah let’s not go there.
This is a political site, its exposes some and defends other. If you throw it (your religion) out there, be prepared to defend it or brace for it to be exposed.
I go to an Evangelical Free Church. I’ve got plenty to say about our leadership too. P-L-E-N-T-Y.
———————-
So being a Nazi is better than being a Klan member? Really?
No wonder Republicans can’t get the black vote.
(ps- more Republicans have current ties with the Klan than current Democrats. No need to go back 60 years for an example.)
Take that analogy over to one of the daily reads that is no longer. I’m sure they’ll appreciate it.
November 15th, 2007 at 2:15 pm
Um- OK- here you go– you wouldn’t have your Evangelical Free Church if it weren’t for the Catholic Church. I pray directly to the big Man-I don’t go through the Pope to pray. Every religion uses “intermediaries” of some sort- why do you need to go listen to a minister at all- why do you need them to interpret the bible for you and pray with you? You should just stay home and pray directly to God. And um, there would be no modern bible at all today if the Cathoic monks had not written it down many moons before the printing press was invented…how’s that? You’ve never heard of anti-Catholic bashing? Read a history book.
And based on your logic– anybody who stayed in a country with a dictator and who was forced to live by the laws of the dictator is guilty of the sins of the dictator. And since most of you lefties think Bush is some sort of Hitler- you could be considered guilty of his “crimes” since you won’t pack up your bags and family and leave the U.S.
November 15th, 2007 at 5:02 pm
DJZ, I see reading comprehension isn’t one of your strengths. I never said Hanoi Jane was the same as Hitler. I said I’d FORGIVE her when the Jews forgave Hitler. Since you are too dense to figure out what that means, let me spell it out for you. I’m not about to forgive her or forget what she’s done any more than the Jews are going to forgive or forget what Hitler did.
November 15th, 2007 at 5:03 pm
ANd Jane only apologized for posing for a picture; she didn’t apologize for anything else.
November 15th, 2007 at 5:29 pm
Shozzy, you’re spot on the history of anti-Catholics. Our country was colonized by them. We even gave their own state (Maryland) and the Quakes allowed them to be free from harm in Pennsylvania (unlike other New England states).
Using the rest of your logic, I would say that don’t go sticking your chest out too far- back in those days priests could marry and freedom was only for the wealthy. The Church was not fit for the Lord it represented, thus cometh the Reformation.
So, if it wasn’t for the Jews, would we have the Catholic Church?
—-
Fine Honeydog, have it your way. I really don’t care. I’m just tired of you all beating up on Ritchie.
November 15th, 2007 at 6:33 pm
And if it wasn’t for God, would we have anything? Would we be sitting here right now typing this crap? No.
November 15th, 2007 at 6:49 pm
Priests married long before the US was colonized. The Catholic Church is responsible for the literacy of millions of poor people througout history. Social justice is a hallmark of the Church. I’m proud that the Church votes 50% DFL 50% GOP- although it’s frustrating- I know we have a good balance of beliefs.
And you are 100% correct- if it wasn’t for the Jews we would NOT have the Catholic Church. You’re catching on now. Love the Jews (Jesus), respect the Jews (we’ve formally apologized for our part in anti-Semitism), protect the Jews (Israel).
Hate Hitler. When you say the Pope was a Nazi you are stepping over a line. Thank you for your time.
And back to the purpose of this post- this doufus Mark Ritchie– who can’t complete the simple task of posting election results to his website. He is a partisan jerk- I feel no sympathy about “beating up on him” after the baseless attacks on Kiffmeyer.
November 15th, 2007 at 8:02 pm
DJZ and the others, why not defend the Ritchie record and skip the dodge issues. Kiffmeyer isn’t in charge now and the Pope has nothing to do with who is the current SOS.
November 16th, 2007 at 3:52 am
DJZ, quit your bellyaching. Ritchie deserves to be beat up on. He lied in his campaign and accused anoter person of being unethical and partisan. Now he’s doing exactly what he falsely accused another person of doing. If he can’t stand the heat, he should stay out of the kitchen.
If the table was turned and it was a Republican, you guys would be raising holy hell even though other Republicans would have urged the offender to step down. Seems you guys think Democrats can do anything, even if it is illegal and unethical, but my god of a Republican farts is a major scandal.
By the waj DJZ, this thread isn’t even about Ritchie, it’s about Hanoi Jane the traitor. Your and the Demoncrats defense of her just goes to show how low you guys will really go.
November 16th, 2007 at 8:38 am
DJZ,
The difference between Kiffmeyer and Ritchie is that Ritchie has still not posted election results on the SOS web site. Kiffmeyer at least had the work done before she traveled to other conferences and meetings.
November 16th, 2007 at 8:54 am
Shozzy, the Pope was a Nazi so I don’t know why you are disputing that fact. No one is calling the guy an SS agent, but he was in the regular army for a short time.
That’s peanuts compared to the Pope that was in Rome during WW2 and did very little to stand up to protect the Jews being persecuted. Which is extremely unfortunate.
November 16th, 2007 at 10:24 am
Liar. The Pope was not a Nazi– that is a political party you idiot. The Pope served in the German Army- because he was drafted. Neither he, nor anybody in his family was a member of the Nazi party. I will not let you liberals LIE about the Pope. You just can’t stand it when YOU’RE called the Bigots- can you?
November 16th, 2007 at 1:31 pm
Richie probably already has this picture hanging up above his headboard.
November 17th, 2007 at 3:27 pm
I’m perfectly willing to forgive Hanoi Jane….just as soon as she finishes serving a five year sentance lying in a tiger cage, naked and covered with her own waste.
That picture is more offensive to me than the misuse of his office.
Any politician that would even allow themselves to be caught in the background of a picture of that filthy traitor, much less smiling front and center, should be run out of office on a rail.
