WASHINGTON POST: “MINNESOTA REPUBLICANS HAVE BEEN QUICK TO HIGHLIGHT SOME OF FRANKEN’S MORE COLORFUL OPINIONS IN AN EFFORT TO PAINT HIM AS ‘ANGRY AL’”
By Michael Brodkorb | December 17, 2007
"Minnesota Republicans have been quick to highlight some of Franken's more colorful opinions in an effort to paint him as 'Angry Al,' a hotheaded ideologue. Ron Carey, the state GOP chairman, has noted in newspaper op-eds that Franken once called former secretary of state James Baker a 'lying scumbag'; blasted former attorney general John Ashcroft as 'something of a nutcase'; and once said that only '[expletive] idiots' think that Ronald Reagan was the greatest president of the 20th century. When Franken announced his candidacy in February, Republicans issued a press release pointing out that Franken, in a magazine interview last year, described Coleman with a term suggesting that he was sexually subservient to the president." Angry Al will go over as well as Angry Mike did.
It is very upsetting to those on the left to know Angry Al is going to lose.

It seems to me that dumping on Franken now is risky business. I’d rather wait until he’s gotten the endorsement than tarnishing him now when it’s possible for Dems to nominate Ciresi.

Not really as I doubt it would be anyone but Franken at this point.
If somehow Ciresi get the endorsement he has the whole money grubbing lawyer thing going on. He would not have much chance against Coleman.

Tactically, it isn’t wise to give Democrats a reason to not nominate Franken. The time to unload on Franken is after he’s gotten the nomination.

Ciresi is not a viable threat and Angry Al has been spewing so much hate for so long, I say pile on now and keep it coming! There will be no shortage of ammo on Angry Al.

Gary: Franken is the front-runner for the DFL nomination.

I don’t care where ya go; Smokescreen is considered one of, if not “the” most vulnerable OPer incumbent.
He’s been carrying Boy Blunder’s water, and his record shows it.
You can call him ‘Angry Al’ all ya want; I guess if I were defending a Lapdog, I’d call Al angry, too.

And yet, Coleman is going to defeat your candidate, Tommy.
Get down on your knees and shine my shoes, democrat slave.
December 17th, 2007 at 9:15 PM
Hi might well be the front runner but I want him to stay the frontrunner. The last thing I want is to give the DFL is a reason not to nominate him.
If you want him to be the candidate running against Norm, then the best strategy is to stay silent until he is the nominee.

Gary: Thanks for the comment, but I disagree.

Not a problem, Michael. Nobody agrees 100 percent of the time. We’re still strong allies in defeating D’s.
