COX RAISES ALMOST $40,000 FOR SD 25 SPECIAL ELECTION, DFL CANDIDATE’S REPORT ISN’T AVAILABLE ON CFBOARD’S WEBSITE
By Michael B. Brodkorb | December 31, 2007
It is worth noting that Republican-endorsed Ray Cox has raised nearly $40,000 (to be exact – $39,885) for the special election in SD 25 this Thursday.
Meanwhile, DFL-endorsed Kevin Dahle may be embarrassed because his fundraising numbers haven't been posted on the campaign finance board's website.
The talk at the Capitol is that the DFL may have already written this election off. There is still plenty of time for the DFL to get their act together, but a Republican win on Thursday would be the 2nd Minnesota special election that Republicans have won this year.
I'll be spending at least one day down in SD 25 this week to help with the effort. Please check back to Minnesota Democrats Exposed this week for more coverage on the SD 25 special election.
UPDATE: I'm hearing the DFL is running radio ads for Kevin Dahle in the SD 25 special election. A comment left on this post also states that the DFL is running radio ads.
UPDATE #2: I contacted the Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board about Dahle's report. I was informed that Dahle's report has been filed, but a "technical" issue is preventing it from being posted on the Board's website.

The best indicator of how competitive an election is would be the independent stuff) on behalf of a candidate.
I’ve spoken with several people in SD 25, there has been NOTHING for Dahle (the DFL candidate). Nothing from ED Minnesota, nothing from the AFL-CIO, nothing from the transportation groups.
By comparision, all those groups were pounding on Drazkowski in the special house election earlier this year. Like it or not, they at least thought they had a chance at winning that one.
Those groups, by their own actions, are admitting they have no chance of winning this one. This election is over. Cox has won.

The people I know in this district have heard tons of radio ads for the DFLer. I don’t think it’s been written off, but certainly Cox is going to win if the turnout is normal in all parts of the district.

“I’ve spoken with several people in SD 25, there has been NOTHING for Dahle (the DFL candidate). Nothing from ED Minnesota, nothing from the AFL-CIO, nothing from the transportation groups.”
As someone who lives in the district, Ive received a mailer from Education Minnesota, a door knocker from an environmental group (Dont recall which one), 2 calls from unions, as well as the mailers and calls from the Dahle campaign itself.
So you’re pretty ill-informed flyer.

The choice is between a liberal RINO and a DFLer. What a choice SD25 has. It reminds me of a recent “South Park” episode, where the boys have to vote to elect a new school mascot, and the choice is between a giant douche and a giant turd sandwich.
Pretty much sums up the SD25 election.
December 31st, 2007 at 11:35 AM
So D, did you win the South Park election?
December 31st, 2007 at 11:57 AM
D,
Do you live in the district? If not, then shut up. Cox has the endorsement of the Republican party. End of story.
December 31st, 2007 at 12:17 PM
Yes, Chris. I should just go lay by my dish. Don’t rock the boat…just let the RINOs run the Party. Because its only about winning.
Not standing for something. Which is why we (the GOP) is losing.

“Which is why we (the GOP) is losing.”
Thanks D for showing us your second grade grammar skills!
I think D is Sue Jeffers, so a giant douche is fitting.

How’s the Kool-Aid today, GOPwhore?
Yeah, attack a word. I guess you and the rest of the lemmings didn’t get word from GOP HQ on what to say or do next, huh?
December 31st, 2007 at 12:58 PM
So GOP Girl- you called me Andy Apolowski- (whatever his name is) and you call this other person Sue Jeffers?
I sincerely hope you current MN GOP folks don’t think that those are the only two people out there who question big-spending Republicans.
Keep it up and we will keep losing seats. You will never beat Democrats by trying to spend as much as they do. People who like spending will always pick a Democrat. People who don’t like spending are getting tired of voting for (and volunteering for and raising money for) the lesser of two evils.
Does the 1984 Reagan landslide or the Contract with American mean anything to you? Or were you still playing with your Barbies?
December 31st, 2007 at 1:04 PM
Looks like Sue is getting a little testy!
December 31st, 2007 at 1:04 PM
To get past the name-calling, I want to go back to the point of MDE’s original post. MDE got info that the DFL is not contesting the senate district seat. Others have info to the contrary.
I’m inclined to believe the ones who live there who say that the DLF is giving a go at it.
And that is what distinguishes the leadership (such as it is) of the GOP’s Ron Carey versus the leadership of the DFL’s Melendez. The DFL will go to the mattresses in districts that have not gone DFL in decades. The GOP, in contrast, gives little to no support to candidates running in historically DFL districts.

shozzy, you mean “Contract ON America”, because it led to the K Street Project, Jack Abramoff, and unrestrained earmarks.
This little item from Gingrich’s travesty:
***
FOURTH, limit the terms of all committee chairs;
***
has done more to destroy the house as an institution than anything else in America’s history.
There’s a reason why a thug like Roy Blunt has more power and influence in Congress than a decent and honorable man like Jim Ramstad, and that’s Newt Gingrich’s “Contract On America”.
There’s a reason why John Kline told the Minnesota Disabled American Veterans two years ago that he didn’t co-sponsor legislation written by democrats, EVEN THOUGH IT HELPED DISABLED VETERANS,, and that’s Newt Gingrich’s “Contract On America”.
Newt Gingrich’s “Contract On America” is why GOP now stands for GreedOverPrinciples.
December 31st, 2007 at 1:20 PM
D. Make me! Damn your funny – thank God I have a sense of humor and can laugh at fools like you Sue. From your response I would have to agree with gopgal, you are the giant douche. Have a nice day.
December 31st, 2007 at 1:24 PM
Stonewall, not true, at least in the case of the Minnesota House. The HRCC gave a ton of support to the House races in Senate District 20 and will again next year. As far as spending goes you are correct. Republicans only seem to govern correctly when they are the minority party. Newt and the gang did a terrific job in 84, unfortunately what we learned there was soon forgotten.

As a partisan DFLer, I can say that I am embarassed by the DFL. I was listeing to the radio over the weekend and heard a DFL ad hitting Cox on stuff, not too long after that I heard a Cox ad saying he was above personal attacks. This just makes the DFL look stupid. they should have spent $ on pro=Dahle ads.
This just made us look dumb.
December 31st, 2007 at 3:07 PM
Do not feel bad Howard, the DFL makes their supporters look dumb all the time.

two put you might want to get some facts straight:
* John Kline is an honorable person who won’t support bills that have wasteful spending in it. He opposed the bill that had the 35-w bridge funding because it had other wasteful spending in it. So to make that comparrison is a joke.
* It was the Contract “With” America.
* the clause you’re referring to was a rule that no one could be the chair of a committee more than six years or speaker eight. Ramstadd never got the chair of the ways and means committee because there more senior members.
* Unless I’m mistaken the only Roy Blunt in Congress is a senator from Missouri who since he is a Republican doesn’t chair a committee. Not to mention this rule was for the House only.
* Lets see the Republicans sponsored a package to reform earmarks and it’s the Democrats who went and did more than 9,000. Most were secret (so I guess it was the Contract with America’s fault) and congress wasn’t allowed votes to try to remove them which the Republican earmark reform tried to.
So two put you four or five putted that comment.

Walter
-He was clearing making a joke about the contract with America
-Roy Blunt is the Minority whip, number 2 in the house on the Republican side. The Republican Senator is Kit Bond. Both are from Missouri.
December 31st, 2007 at 4:13 PM
Andrew:
Thanks for clarifying the Blunt for me. The name sounded familar from Missouri. I mixed up my people. To the best of my knowledge what gives Blunt any power (which is limited because the Republicans are the minority which was multipe putt Tommy’s complaint) is that he is the number two in the House.
As for the comment about the joke about the contract “With” America. It wasn’t a contract “On” America. I was correcting the wrong use of word.

Walter, make no mistake: it was the ‘Contract ON America”.
And if you had any clue how republiCons control their membership in the house of representatives, you’d know that.
But you don’t, so you don’t.
And John Kline is a wuss that’s afraid of his constituents.
Twice a year, Rammer takes comments and questions from the electorate all across the district.
John Kline is afraid of his constituents.
Two years ago, John Kline told the Minnesota Disabled American Venterans delegation he would not co-sponsor legistlation to help disabled veterans, BECAUSE IT WAS WRITTEN BY A DEMOCRAT.
Last year, Kline refused to meet the Minnesota Disabled American Veterans.
While I have nothing but respect for the time John Kline wore the uniform of a Marine; I have nothing but contempt for the way he has stabbed veterans in the back while in congress.

Howard: Cox’s ads should be positive, saying he’s above personal attacks – but 3rd party (and that includes party) ads should be negative. If Dahle runs negative radio ads, that’s a tactical error.
The DFL DOES have a record of running untrue negative ads (the worst I heard of, were the ads they ran against Betzold’s opponent – Pam Wolf). They were personal – and related to her divorce. Brian Melendez should be ashamed of himself for that one.
January 1st, 2008 at 5:48 PM
One of the worst I heard of was against Ruud in SD#4 – said she was against veterans when her whole family is military. They have no shame when it comes to lying!
January 2nd, 2008 at 12:23 PM
To hear the ads, go here http://locallygrownnorthfield.org/archives/2828/#more-2828
Or go to locallygrownnorthfield.org and then go to Audio of Senate 25 election.
The ads talk about Ray Cox’s voting record. Or should that be kept a secret and not discussed during elections?
January 2nd, 2008 at 7:21 PM
hey Two Putt:
It was called the contract “With” America.
It helped caused the budget getting balanced before I took office (Oh I forgot Clinton had to be dragged to that)
It said Congress should live by the same rules it imposes on other people. Oh I guess you’re favor of Congress getting automatic exceptions.
That’s why it was the contract with America.
Boy I wish we had better control of those people when we were in the majority. It was their behaving like Democrats that caused us to lose control of the House. Walz said he will be an independent voice. Mind Numb Robot. What Pelosi wants he votes for. That is control which you think the Republicans had.
As for Kline he probably didn’t support the bill since the Democrats were putting things into it that he didn’t support. Hence if it is a bad bill written by Democrats he shouldn’t support it. Should a Democrat support an education bill written by a Republican if they think it’s a bad bill? Your logic says yes. Yet all the time Democrats refuse to support Republican Education bills because they think it’s a bad bill. So your insulting of John Kline is an unfair attack.
Of course you’re too busy finding a golf course to try to sink five putts per green.
