Instead of concluding that Mike’s ad buy was “paltry”, it is far more probable that he got a terrific buy for the money. Compare his prudent and smart use of campaign funds with his chief opponent, who spent $1.3 million to raise $1.9 last quarter. Democratic voters should ask what this tells them about what kind of steward he would be of taxpayers’ money. So far Al has raised an impressive $7 milliion, but he’s spent $4 million on an endorsement that still has six months to go!

And what Mike said was that he wouldn’t completely “self fund”. He has never ruled out contributing to his own campaign–just that he would not do that exclusively. Since he obviously does not have the celebrity connections Franken has, if he is able to do so, he would not tie one hand behind his back, so to speak, in his fundraising efforts.

Four Putt (or is that six putt):

Norm was mayor for Saint Paul for two terms before that (eight years). Not to mention after his reelection in November he’ll have at least 12 years in the Senate.

The comment about Al was that his Air America gig was I think four years. He had a couple of stints on Saturday night live, but neither one was more than six years in a row. I suppose he can claim he was an actor with his best role being one or two lines in “Trading Places”

Mike:

No offense, but this one I think you have wrong. If he wants to win the endorsement he has to do the advertising now. Not to mention if his funds are limited as you described than this might be all the money he has to do the ad buy.

Furthermore the dig at Al I think is the major selling point for the DFL audience he’s targeting. he’s serious about winning. Al he’s doing this for fame and to show he’s tried to stand up to Republicans. The worse thing for Al Franken is that he wins and has to do it for six years. Has he held any job for six years?
