FRANKEN AND CIRESI “SPAR” IN FRONT OF PRESS

By Michael B. Brodkorb | January 10, 2008

Al Franken cannot be pleased that Mike Ciresi stole his thunder and launched the first ads, including the first attack ad, of the campaign season (no matter how bland they are). Perhaps that's why Franken tried to interupt Ciresi during a joint press conference today:

"Although the candidates were friendly, Ciresi and Franken did spar a bit.

At one point, when Ciresi was answering a reporter's question, Franken tried to interject something. Ciresi shut him down.

'Hold on a minute,' Ciresi said.

Franken said he just wanted to ask Ciresi a question.

'Let me finish, Al, then you can ask a question,' Ciresi said.

Franken waited and then asked about the impact of a mortgage-related bill in the U.S. Senate. Ciresi answered the question, Franken thanked him, and then Ciresi got a dig in: 'Stick around me, you'll learn a lot.'" Source: Pioneer Press, January 10, 2008

It's not surprising that Ciresi was able to hold his own against Franken. I can't image that Franken was too pleased.

Another surprise was that, despite being an annoying talking head on the cable news circuit, Franken seemed to have little knowledge about federal mortgage legislation. Fortunately, Ciresi was able to answer Franken's question. Franken better study up the issues; I doubt think that Senator Coleman will be as helpful as Ciresi when the debates roll around.
