MDE FROM THE ARCHIVES: FRANKEN IMAGINES HITTING TERRORIST “IN FACE WITH MORE BALLS THAN ELTON JOHN.”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | January 17, 2008

Wow, why did Al Franken feel the need to mock gay people?
"Actually, and this is totally true, for the first six months after 9/11, I put three baseballs in my carry-on bag.  I am blessed with an unusually accurate throwing arm, and wanted more than anything to thwart a hijacking by beaning a terrorist.  How American is that?!  I imagined the New York Post headline:  'Franken Beans Hijacker: Terrorist Hit In Face With More Balls Than Elton John.'" Source: Al Franken, Lies And The Lying Liars Who Tell Them, Plume, p. 167,  2003
I understand it is a joke, but what's funny about it?

This shows that Franken is a complete bigot and will go to extremes to ridicule anyone who is not like him.

I am guessing that Barney Frank will not be flying into Minnesota anytime soon to do any events with Franken!!

MDE, you could say the same about KQRS… apparently it’s comedy, but I could not tell you what is funny about it.

Being that Al has worked quite some time in the entertainment industry, I am sure if he was some raging homophobe we would have heard about it by now.

Must be a slow day again, eh? Well don’t worry soon enough you will have another special election to lose :)

Was Elton John a baseball player? Why the reference to him and balls in the face……oh wait….it’s because he’s gay and Franken likes gay bashing.

    Still not funny.

Rick you are right and there was public outcry for what KQRS did, yet nothing on Franken. ;) Funny how that works I guess.

Franken will lose if he is the candidate and I think the reason why jokers like you come here to complain about the reporting on him is because in your heart you know what a weak candidate he is for your side. :)

When KQRS funs for a seat in the US Senate, I’ll worry about them.

So, I’m at the Grand Opening for The Quarry Golf Course, at Giant’s Ridge.

And Governor Pawlenty is there; to cut the ribbon. T-Paw grabs the microphone, and warms up the crowd:

“I’m gettin’ ready to play, this morning” (this is T-Paw talkin’, here) “and my aide says, ‘Hey, Governor, you ready to play? Got your clubs? Your glove? Shoes? Balls? Do you have enough balls?’ ”

“Let me tell you, I’m a republican, here on the range – I got PLENTY of balls!!!”

    ROFLMAO!!!

I don’t care who ya are, that’s a FUNNY joke!!!

    T-Paw, claimin’ mucho grande cajones!!!

He – of course – is correct, T-Paw DOES have mucho grande cajones!!!

Unlike keyboard commandos like little stones, etc etc etc. Oh – and Norm “Smokescreen” Coleman, R=Lapdog. Ol’ Smokescreen lost his cajones long time ago; probably back when he was a long-haired hippie at Hofstra.

And I have to state, with no equivication: Michael here simply demonstrates over and Over and OVER the hypocrisy of republiCons:

“When we do it, it’s ok; when DEMONrats do it, it’s bad.”

Reasonable people understand this for what it is: just one more example of why GOP now stands for GreedOverPrinciples.

This one seems to be a slur about Elton John being gay, Two Putt.

This type of thing is a pattern for Al Franken. And I was at a gay event last night, where a number of people were talking about Franken’s persistant homophobia in his “jokes.”

GOPGal – it was notable that Alan Spear – former Senate President – and openly gay – spoke out very strongly about how Franken would be a huge problem for the DFL if he was the nominee in the fall – the reason – these endless comments that he’d have to explain.

  8. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    January 18th, 2008 at 1:08 AM

Eva, did ya hear the one ’bout when Ole and Lena….

Dam – ya can’t even tell one o’ them jokes, anymore, doncha know?

    WT(C) is up with that??!?

  9. Big Kahuna Says:
    January 18th, 2008 at 11:43 AM

Twopudd like to change directions of the discussions when they involve Franken or other angry liberal politicians as he knows full well what fools they are so he comes here to try and give cover for them. :)

    Big Kahuna,

If Franken is such a weak candidate why waste all of this energy telling us, repeatedly. Also isn’t it kind of a waste of time looking up 20 year old Al Franken quotes if Norm Coleman has such an advantage because of Franken’s weakness as a candidate?

  11. VIDEO OF AL FRANKEN TALKING ABOUT POSTS ON MINNESOTA DEMOCRATS EXPOSED | Minnesota Democrats Exposed Says:
    January 29th, 2008 at 9:38 AM

[...] This is a video clip of Al Franken speaking at the Stonewall DFL candidate screening on January 19, 2008.  Franken mentions posts on Minnesota Democrats Exposed (Franken refers to "MDE"), specifically my post about Al Franken mocking gay people with a joke about Elton John.  It's nice to know that Franken is reading Minnesota Democrats Exposed. Fron the Harvard Crimson, 1976:

He recalled writing a skit called “Seamen on Broadway” that was rejected from the Hasty Pudding show “by some preppie so they could take some other preppie’s skit.” Franken started to smile again, but his tone was serious, too serious. “It’s not preppies, cause I’m a preppie myself. I just don’t like homosexuals. If you ask me, they’re all homosexuals in the Pudding. Hey, I was glad when that Pudding homosexual got killed in Philadelphia.” The smile became so broad it pushed his eyes shut. He couldn’t stand it any longer. “Put that in, put that in,” Franken laughed, leaning over the desk. “I’d love to see that in The Crimson.”

The quote in the Crimson is said to be “taken out of context” or is “edgy humor” but if you read the original article in the Crimson, you can see that there is no “context” to take the quote out of.

And no, I don’t “get” the “joke,” either.

And the murder was quite real. Franken was joking about the 1975 gay-bashing murder of Knight-Ridder newspapers heir John Shivery Knight III to the Harvard Crimson in 1976. Franken begged the reporter to put the quote in The Crimson…

Oh, I get it now! Stabbing a Fag! Oh that IS funny! No, wait, it isn’t!

Al Franken is homophobic, I am afraid. The idea that his comments “have to be taken in context” is nonsense. This isn’t “edgy humor” it is gay-bashing, plain and simple.

And this one quote is not an isolated incident with him.

I remember one of his “Fraken & Davis” skits back in the late 1970’s, when I was an impressionable youth.

The duo appear onstage in south seas outfits (complete with grass skirts and coconut bras) to do their “sketch”. The “joke” was that Davis picks this time to “come out” on the air and express his love for Al, who spurns his advances.

The overall impression of the act was one of mockery of homosexual impulses, which in 1978, was considered an acceptable form of humor (Johnny Carson loved this form of joke, often at other’s expense, such as his long runnin inneunedos about Wayne Newton).

Hey, it was the 1970’s, and gay-bashing was all the rage, right?

That’s all the “context” you need.

There is a pattern to Franken’s behavior. His homophobia is now nicely masked, but still present.

It should be noted also that “SNL” has been unapologically homophobic over the years. Lorne Michaels never heard a gay joke he didn’t like. Sketches and cartoons like:
    “The Ambiguously Gay Duo”
    “Bisexual Minute”
    “Gays in Space”
    “It’s Pat”
    “Lyle, the Effiminent Heterosexual”
“She’s the Girl wtih No Gaydar!”
    “Sprockets”
    etc. etc. etc.
are all pretty typical of the genre.

If you work on a show like that, and you don’t say anything or try to change it, then you are part of it. Franken was not only a writer on the show, but later a producer as well.

For a LIBERAL DEMOCRAT to act this way is shocking. Has Franken apologized or anything? NO! He just says “I guess they didn’t like the gay joke” (which one?) and says it was “edgy humor” that was “taken out of context.”

Al Franken is a dangerous man, because he thinks he is always right about everything, all the time, and he never needs to apologize or change his mind.

And everyone who disagrees with him is a demon or a monster, not someone you can work with in the Senate or draft compromise legislation.

He will be a disaster as a Senator. Even Hillary Clinton learned to get along with her adversaries in the Senate. Al? Forget it!

We don’t need more like him in government.

    Left-wing facists.
