LIES AND THE LYING LIARS THAT WHO TELL THEM: AL FRANKEN ON “MIDDAY” EDITION
By Michael Brodkorb | January 23, 2008
I was really surprised by Al Franken's performance on MPR today. Franken seemed tired and distracted. He was all over the place with his answers and couldn't seem to tell the truth. Below are a few examples.
Franken on MPR: "I think there's some misunderstanding. I never advocated for the war in the lead up for the war. But, I also didn’t speak out against it because, quite frankly, I was torn, as I know a lot of Americans were." Source: Al Franken, January 23, 2008
Franken is seen in a video released by U.S. Senator Norm Coleman's campaign claiming he spoke out about the war:
- Franken in 2007: "No one spoke out louder about this war than I did, and more consistently." Source: Al Franken, DFL Progressive Caucus Debate, September 30, 2007
Franken on MPR: "And, um, but I think there – you know, I've had some people think that I voted, somehow I voted in the Senate for the war. I did not." Source: Al Franken, January 23, 2008
Franken didn't vote for the war in Iraq, but he has said that if he was in the U.S. Senate, he would have voted for the war. Franken is heard in the same video released by Coleman's campaign mentioned above that he would have voted for the war in Iraq:
- Franken in 2006: "I think I would have voted for the use of force, ‘cause I would have believed, I believed Colin Powel." Source: Al Franken Show, Air America, May 1, 2006
Franken on MPR: "And uh…probably campaigned more for Paul Wellstone than anyone else." Source: Al Franken, January 23, 2008
Back in December, I posted about a must-read article from Checks & Balances about the candidates for the U.S Senate trying to claim Wellstone's legacy. This section about Al Franken is very interesting:
- "His rhetoric is tightly focused on what the state and the nation lost without Wellstone in the U.S. Senate and we were surprised to see no reflection of Franken’s appreciation of Wellstone in the form of past campaign contributions. Now we acknowledge the information available online may not totally reveal the whole story, since the information on the Federal Elections Commission website only dates back to 1998, but the only contribution shown by Franken in the 2002 cycle was to Walter Mondale on November 5th, the day of the election." Source: Checks & Balances, December 21, 2007
Wellstone was in a tough U.S. Senate race in 2002 against Coleman, but Franken didn't financially contribute until after Mondale replaced Wellstone as the candidate. I don't remember Franken campaigning for Wellstone in 2002, but he may have. If Franken's claiming that he did a significant amount of campaigning on behalf of Wellstone, he should disclose what he did to help Wellstone in 1990, 1996, and 2002. Franken's claiming he did more for Wellstone than anyone else – I say prove it.
### This post also appears on Blogs for Norm!, an online community and blog covering the 2008 U.S. Senate campaign in Minnesota. The primary goal of Blogs for Norm! is to organize bloggers who support U.S. Senator Norm Coleman.

If you were to watch the Wellstone movie (I presume you never made the time to), you’d see a short clip of Franken making jokes at a packed Wellstone fundraising event a few months before the crash. I can’t say for sure the total number, but I know I went to at least 2 Wellstone events (one in 1996 and one in 2002) where Franken was the headliner.

Lance you mean that fictional pice of garbage of how great Wellstone was. I say prove he was great to begine with. God damn hippy liberal who accomplished shit.

Of course he lied. He’s a Democrat.
I also wouldn’t call appearances at a couple fund raising events “campaign[ing] more for Paul Wellstone than anyone else.”
Not that I care. Franken is a friggin’ loser. A phony, lying pile of dog crap loser.

I almost hate for it to be this easy.
Franken will be a lot of fun to watch implode this fall. With all the hate and lies he has told over the years it will be great fun to watch him squirm as he tries to hold his rather famous temper during question at debates.
The only thing Franken saw with the death of Wellstone was an opportunity to get into a senate seat. He figured since he spent a few years as a kid growing up in MN at private schools, he could just fly back and grab this seat.

[...] Franken's starting to show what happens when he is nervous and under pressure – he makes things up (as he did on "Midday") and he starts being mean. [...]
