LIES AND THE LYING LIARS WHO TELL THEM: MN PUBLIUS AND TEAM FRANKEN EDITION

By Michael B. Brodkorb | January 31, 2008

In response to a stinging critique from U.S. Senator Norm Coleman's campaign, Al Franken's communications director, Andy Barr, sent out a statement to bloggers that Al Franken "does not advocate for 'tax increases.'" This statement is false.

At the Twin West Chamber debate on October 5, 2007, Franken advocated for a gas tax increase

"And I think certainly in this state we need to increase the gas tax. We haven’t had an increase in the gas tax in 20 years. And I’m in favor of at least a five to ten cent tax increase, and the fluctuation of gas prices is that everyday anyway. I don’t think people would notice it so much." Source: Al Franken, Twin West Chamber Debate, October 5, 2007

MN Publius was the first blog to post Barr's statement. A commentor on MN Publius quickly agreed that I caught Team Franken in a lie:

"Matt, I got to tell you that Brodkorb’s got you here. Franken got caught in a lie on taxes, and if you do some checking, it looks like Franken is lying about the Sierra club too.

Just how incredibly stupid is Al Franken? Or maybe the question is how stupid is Andy Barr? Its like all of Franken’s lies about when he turned against the war. You can’t just one thing when there is a record of you saying something else." Source: MN Publius, January 31, 2008

Another blog, Minnesota Brown, also wrote that about Barr's statement. I would bet that some of the bloggers that received Barr's false statement might think twice before they publish any future statements from Team Franken.

To borrow a line from Sean “My prediction? Obama by 11.” Broom,  I’m curious if we can count on Franken’s campaign making stuff up for the rest of this election. Let me think about it… hmmm… hmm… Yeah. Yeah we can.

Michael, you got spanked over there.

You never recovered, after this post:

So you’re saying that the Coleman campaign through Tom Erickson lied only 2 times, not 3? Thanks for the clarification Michael.

And your only defense to one of the three lies is that Franken expressed support for a state tax that he would have no power over as a US Senator? Has he expressed support for increases in federal taxes?; you know, the ones he would have power over.

    Not on your life, dogbreath.

But, America’s Greatest Living Ex-President, is working hard, doing The Lord’s work!

This one, from the Southern Baptist Convention website:

    ***
Carter asks Baptists to overlook differences

ATLANTA (BP)–Former President Jimmy Carter, during the opening session of the “New Baptist Covenant Celebration” in Atlanta Jan. 30, called for Baptists of all races, political leanings and theological stances to unite around a common belief in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to set aside the differences that have caused divisions.

“My wife Rosalynn and I have visited more than 125 different nations since we left the White House, and we and our hosts have had many discussions about religion,” Carter, co-chair of the event, said. “Among the unsaved people on earth, what is the prevailing image of Christians today?

“It’s not the dedicated and inspired work of our missionaries. It’s not the great preaching of Billy Graham or others who inspire people. It’s the image of divisions among brothers and sisters in Christ as we struggle for authority or argue about the interpretation of individual verses in the Holy Scriptures,” Carter said to an estimated crowd of 9,000 at the Georgia World Congress Center.

If Al Franken doesn’t support raising taxes, does that mean he will vote to make the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts permanent? I doubt it. A “no” vote is by definition support for raising taxes.

  12. Chris Says:
    January 31st, 2008 at 11:54 PM

    TwoPutt,

Jimmy Carter is the greatest living ex-President, huh? That’s a joke. He’s gone around the world bashing his country and sucking up to dictators who oppose our foreign policy. He’s attacked his successors in the most vehement ways. Carter is as much a failed ex-President as he was a failed President. He should stick to carpentry.

By the way, the Billy Graham comparison is offensive. Billy Graham has done more for the world’s poor than Jimmy Carter ever could.

  13. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    February 1st, 2008 at 12:21 AM

Jimmy Carter, when president, and faced with an energy crisis, turned down the thermostat, put on a sweater, and stuck a solar panel on the roof. He set goals to reduce energy dependence on camel-jockey dictators.

Uncle Ronnie took over, and said “(CHENEY) THAT.” He took of his jacket, turned up the heat, and ripped that (cheney)in’ solar panel off the roof.

Now, the world leaders in green technology aren’t here in the good ol’ USofA; and Minnesota is wooing a DANISH country to come to Minnesota.

    And you bootlickers bash Jimmy.

God has a special beach for you assholes, next to the Lake Of Fire.

Enjoy your fate – you earned it.

  14. Chestnut Says:
    February 1st, 2008 at 6:31 AM

Jimmy Carter, when president, created and energy crisis, created an economic crisis, created a national security crisis, and drove this country to Soviet-like mental depression.

Jimmy Carter was the country’s worst president. And has become the country’s worst ex-president, thanks to his anti-Semitic and generally stupid ramblings.

That dumb sonofabitch stands as en example of all that is wrong with the Left.

That moronic, limp-dick loser should have faded away, embarrassed by his awful, incompetent administration.

… speaking of green technology… have you found one that doesn’t do more damage to the environment than the technology it’s supposed to replace yet?

    What a fucking joke.

  15. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    February 1st, 2008 at 7:24 AM

That moronic, limp-dick loser should have faded away, embarrassed by his awful, incompetent administration.

Well, he did. Died, too. And until the misAdministration of Bush The Lesser, I never thought I’d see the day I missed Richard Nixon.

And until Dick (cheney)in’ Cheney, I never thought I’d see the day Spiro T. Agnew wasn’t the worst VPOTUS in history.

You can’t spell “worst” without dumbya.

So, Carter is the greatest president ever because of a solar panel and set goals? Carter=stagflation.

If a measure of a man was only what he said, and not what they did, we’d have a lot of greatest presidents ever.

I never had a misery index with a Republican president. ;)

Those who believe Jimmy Carter was anything but a total failure are the same delusional types who thought Wellstone accomplished a lot. ;)

You just cannot have a conversation with folks like that. They reject reality and insert thier own, how can you argue with someone who just does not see or understand reality? :)

It does seem though that a generation has managed to forget just how awful life was when we had a democRat president, house and congress. Really a shame as what will happen by 2010 should a democRat win, we will easily see a 6-10% income tax increase. They will push more people into poverty needing government handouts, which of course is exactly what liberals want. dependency so they can hold programs over their heads and keep those in need voting democRat. really a sad state of things. Liberalism will always fail. It is a shame folks do not remember that or even bother to look to democRat controlled major cities and take a hard look at how they are doing. Of course the answer is the same across the country as it is for St. Paul and Mpls. Cities going broke, the worst public schools in the system, lack of funding for what should be basic needs such as police and fire. Why even now the mayors of our two biggest cities are trying to push for funding from the suburbs to help prop up their failed cities a little longer.

  25. Booyah Says:

Well two putt, you said someone died. I was wondering who you were refering to? I guess it really is true that the DFL has no answers. Just keep yelling, putting really incoherent messages up, and verbally berate people seems to be the mantra for this election for the DFL.

  26. TwoPuttTommy Says:

Well two putt, you said someone died. I was wondering who you were refering to?

    Yeah, Booyah – NIXON died.

I guess it really is true that the DFL has no answers.

    Nope! But, keep guessin’….

Just keep yelling, putting really incoherent messages up, and verbally berate people seems to be the mantra for this election for the DFL.

Wrong again, Booyah – No surprise, there!!!

That’s the republiCon strategy – “mobilize the base through ‘fears, queers, and smears’. Use wedge issues to divide and conquer. Parse language – building on the lessons of Professor Gingrich, and honing them with books recommended by GOPer DeputyDot.”

The GreedOverPrinciples Party’s problem, is they’re goin’ to the proverbial well one too many times.

It’s not going to work, this cycle.

  27. Big Kahuna Says:

Tommy like to answer with a question because he truely is clueless to any of this which is proven by the fact he has to revert to name calling and subject changing so he can get back to the talking points he is paid to post here. :)

Nothing more than a low level troll at best. He has time to post here as he has realized no one reads his shit blog. :)

  28. Stonewall Jackson Says:
    February 1st, 2008 at 10:59 AM

If Tommy is correct that Jimmy Carter was such a great president, then one has to wonder why he was defeated in a huge landslide in 1980? By an actor no less.

He does not live or think in the same reality the rest of the world does, so his views to the rest of the world are quite strange and of course completely wrong. :)

Twopudd has been proven over and over and over again to be completely wrong! :)

Notice not one of his posts go without name calling or trying to change the subject. ;)

Twopudd is a paid troll who came to realize his own shit blog was not going to be paying any bills anytime soon. So what does he do? Just like any other moonbat, he comes here where his writings may actually be read. ;)

My guess is MN mommyter gets about a dozen views a week or so. I guess it depends on how many times twopudd goes in to look. ;)

Too bad for twopudd, no one wants to play with him much. ;) Cannot get anyone to give a shit about his rantings at his blog and has been prven to be a total democrat tool here.

I think he is completey ignored at MN pooplius which has to also hurt. ;)

  47. TwoPuttTommy Says:

bullshit, dogbreath. If you were a veteran, you wouldn’t be trashing a graduate of Annapolis, and the guy that gave the greenlight for Col. Charlie Beckwith to start Delta.

You’re a fraud. You claim Carter “couldn’t even do a simple rescue operation right.

The fact is, until the Carter Presidency, the US Military didn’t HAVE a unit that could pull off that kind of mission.

“Those that forget the lessons of history, tend to vote republiCon.”

Thank you for proving that once again, dogbreath.

  48. Honeydog Says:

I’m a veteran, a proud one. I see, and Marine Recon couldn’t pull that off? BS there Tommy.

By the way Tommy, Delta Force people are people who, according to the army “are professional soldiers who hate the army.”

Just because somebody graduates from Annapolis doesn’t mean they were a good soldier.

I have no problem with Delta themselves. But if Carter had been such a great commander in chief, why did he give Delta pilots for the rescue mission that lacked training in such operations?
    Perchance, becuase he was inept?

Why to try again Oscar the Grouch, this time not omitting pertinent information like the typical DEMONcrat.

  49. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    February 2nd, 2008 at 9:17 AM

“I see, and Marine Recon couldn’t pull that off?

    No, dogbreath, they couldn’t.

You’re a fraud, if you think they could. Two different forces, to do two different missions.

“But if Carter had been such a great commander in chief, why did he give Delta pilots for the rescue mission that lacked training in such operations?”

Obviously, dogbreath, you do not understand how the military works. Nor do you understand how and when Delta was formed, and how the Desert One Mission was planned.

    You’re a fraud, dogbreath.

But, thanks for proving, once again:

“Those that forget the lessons of history, tend to vote republiCon.”

Say, dogbreath? When Boy Blunder said this, he was talkin’ ’bout YOU:

Again, do you want to try to get some facts straight.

Delta was formed as counter terrorist. Their primary mission is in fact doing this sort of thing. But if you are that stupid that you think no other special forces could have done a rescue, than I call BS on your claim that you are a veteran.

As for the fraud is, it has to be you. You weren’t even bright enough to know the name of the hostage rescue mission. Heck you were even too lazy to google it and find out the real name. Heck, you’re still repeating a proven NY Times LIE.

Yeah, too bad it wasn’t you. You were in fact the jerk in the fishing hat holding the anti-war sign. LOL, you can’t get away with the lies when the MN Monitor blabbed how you show up all all veteran’s events.

“I don’t call one of your kids a name, until they call me one first.”

    No, dogbreath, I wasn’t.

    “Facts are stupid things.”

Uncle Ronnie said it; you – bein’ a bootlickin’ republiCon – live it.

Yeah you were, Tommy. MN Blue says that whenever you show up at a veterans event, you were a fishing hat and a grin. There was only one person there wearing a fishing hat, and a grin that made him look totally mindless. That person was holding an anti-war sign. So take that Tommy Johnson, and stuff it in your pipe.

You believe everything you read, Mona, er, ‘scuse me, “dogbreath”?

    I thought so.

I don’t own a “fishing hat”, and I wasn’t at the park holding an “anti-war” sign. I wasn’t holding any sign.

You’re developing a record here of bein’ wrong as often as yer husband, Mayor Maybe.

LOL, you think my husband is a mayor? HAHAHAHAHAHA

So, you’re saying MN Blue is lying when they say you were a fishing hat. LOL, well that would be typical of you Demoncrats, but this is one case where I think they are telling the truth.

And no, I don’t beleive everything I read, I don’t believe anything you say there JODI. LOL

Yes, Mona, er, ‘scuse me, “dogbreath” – Big E got it wrong; it’s not a “fishing hat.”

So then you’re calling Big E a liar. LOL, typical. But then, we know thats SOP for Demoncrats like you.
