WITHIN MINUTES, FRANKEN FLIP-FLOPS ON SUPPORTING 2ND AMENDMENT RIGHTS
By Michael B. Brodkorb | February 4, 2008
"The next minute [Al Franken] was talking about Second Amendment rights, saying he believes gun laws now on the books should be enforced, but, after hesitating, said he couldn’t fully rule out supporting other gun control measures." Source: Mesabi Daily News, February 2, 2008

Aside form the article above, a press release from the Republican Party of Minnesota last month said Franken claimed he would support the 2nd Amendment:
November 2007: Franken Vowed Support For People To Have Guns For "Protection And Collection And Hunting." "I support actually every amendment in the Constitution, and I think that people have the right to, you know, have guns for protection and collection and hunting. I actually went pheasant hunting myself about a month ago." (The Mischke Broadcast, KSTP AM 1500, November 27, 2007)
I guess Franken changed his mind on support the 2nd Amendment. It's rather amazing to see Franken flip-flop on the 2nd Amendment within minutes.

Once again Michael, you are a rhetorical idiot. One can support the 2nd amendment and still support gun laws.
I guess if you’re from the party that says “if you don’t support the war you hate America and the troops” then this is pretty status quo.

Amazing how quickly this liberal got off on a unrelated tangent. This must really be hitting a sore spot!! Good job Michael, keep exposing Angry Al as the complete fraud that he is. And Mark, does this mean that Angry Al was for gun control before he was against it?

Mark will Franken answer the NRA’s survey?
February 4th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Please Pete and Jay, explain why one can’t support the second amendment and still support gun laws? Do you guys know what the second amendment is exactly? and what does it have to do with the NRA? and why is that joke of a lobby significant to anyone?

“A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
Seems pretty durned clear cut to me!

Liberals want to know what the meaning of “shall not” on this one.
After all just take away the guns fro honest law abbiding citizens and the criminal will surely understand the gesture of peace and will clearly lay down their guns as well.
That is the kind of thinking you get when you fill an idiots mind like twopudd.

Nah Kahuna, Democrats just support not having guns in the hands of murders, rapists, child molestors and crooked gun dealers. Silly us!
February 4th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
You are a bit silly digby, as what laws would ever make a criminal give up his gun?
You moonbat liberals will never be able to understand that because you just do not accept reality. Instead it is just easier to have your fluffy little white cloud dreams and pretend all will follow your plan to rainbows and unicorns.

Yoni, the Bill of Rights limits the Government. Not the citizens. The Second Amendment protects us against government tyranny. Which other right listed is limited to the government only?
The NRA is the Nations first civil rights organization. Protecting all citizens Right to keep and bear arms.
If Franken is indeed a supporter of the Second Amendment he would do well to answer the NRA’s survey. And I as a member would welcome his support.
But to be honest I have my doubts about Angry Al.

“One can support the 2nd amendment and still support gun laws.”
Sure, and one can support he First Amendment and still support restrictions on free speech and expression.
And one can support the Fourth Amendment and still support unreasonable searches and seizures.
Hell, I bet one can support the Third Amendment, yet still be tolerant of the government forcing home owners to allow soldiers to use their homes in peace time.
… you serious Mark? Are you truly that goddam stupid?.. oh, wait… I know your posts… of course you’re that goddam stupid.

That quote was actually from the Bob Davis Show when Ron Rosenbaum was filling in.

“And one can support the Fourth Amendment and still support unreasonable searches and seizures.”
Which pretty much sums up the republiCon postition regarding The Patriot Act, and their support for Boy Blunder And The Plunderers.
Say, chestNuts? You cannot explain to me why you extremist rightwingnuts claim you want “strict constructionists” appointed to the judicial branch, but turn a blind eye while Boy Blunder ignores the Legislative Branch through Signing Statements.
But I can explain to you, why that is so: republiCons are consistently inconsistent.
Oh – hypotcrites, too.
February 5th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Back that up 2PT. What in the Patriot Act constitutes a violation of the Fourth Amendment? … The answer is nothing. If you knew a shit wit what you were talking about, you’d know that.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!
So, by this logic, I can’t support the 2nd amendment and support a ban on personal nuclear weapons.
February 7th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
Good one Woo.
let me guess you have your own personal nuke?
What a dipshit!

“One can support the 2nd amendment and still support gun laws.†True, for instance 2. Have your musket clean as a whistle, hatchet scoured, sixty rounds powder and ball, and be ready to march at a minute’s warning. (Rogers Rangers standing orders. Applied to all rangers at home or in the field). Concerning the Patriot act vs. 4th amendment I bet none of the Democrats running can tell what the significance of the life or limb portion of the law is/was and what it pertains to…..I’ll bet what our founding fathers thought of as unreasonable search and seizures would differ greatly from ours. They were probably more concerned with soldiers waking them up in the night when they had to get up and milk the cows early. Our founding fathers probably viewed the right of self defense as god given and totally separate from hunting rights. Where in the second ammendment does it refer to “hunting rights”? Anti gun people claim they don’t want to take away all guns at the same time they fight for laws denying any weapons to private citizens like the DC law that the Supreme Court is looking at.
