MN GOP PRESS RELEASE: “MITT ROMNEY WINS REPUBLICAN PARTY OF MINNESOTA PRECINCT CAUCUSES AS ATTENDANCE RECORDS ARE SMASHED”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | February 6, 2008

St. Paul – Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey tonight issued the following statement following tonight’s record setting turnout in the history of precinct caucuses.  While tonight's final attendance number is not yet complete, the previous record had been 58,000 caucus attendees in 1988.

"Congratulations to Mitt Romney on his impressive victory tonight in the Minnesota Precinct Caucuses.   Minnesota Republicans came out in record numbers tonight to make their voices heard and make their Party stronger.  By smashing all caucus attendance records, it’s clear Minnesota Republicans are energized and excited for 2008."

This press release was sent late last night, but I was too tired to post it. Yes, I was too tired to type on my computer.

Wow! That’s almost 30% of what the DFL had! Keep up the good work mngop and you’ll be a competitive party in no time.

Tim Pawlenty and Norm Coleman supported John McCain; Pawlenty actively campaigned for McCain all over the country. Yet, MN GOP caucus-goers gave McCain less than 25%. Isn’t that a total repudiation of Pawlenty within the party? Why wouldn’t he have more clout? Just wondering.

    Sam-

Yes, turn-out was a lot lower than the DFL.

    We have a problem.

We’re not suckered in by an inexperienced empty suit like Barack Obama.

We look for a little more substance in our candidates and aren’t bamboozled by someone trying to portray himself as the “next JFK”.

Apparently a lot of DFL’ers were…maybe you included.

    Now get lost, troll.

It’s not the candidates that didn’t get people out to vote, it was the candidates lack of ideas. The party is dead.

  5. buck Says:

Sure, MplsSteve, just keep on deluding yourself. At this point, it wouldn’t matter if it’s Obama, Clinton or Mickey Fucking Mouse. In November, your tired party is going to be swept aside like the dinosaur they are. Hasta la vista, baby!

  6. Georgie Says:

Typical MnDFLers. Declaring things are dead before they find out the Zombies are about to kill them.

We rise from the dead, Richard. And there’s nothing you can do when your flesh is consumed.

MN did the right thing, now I think the biggest hope is for a brokered convention. Romney can last to the convention, can McCain and Huckabee? McCain will have to turn to Dems to get his money, because its not coming from conservatives.

Did you like Coleman’s RINO vote yesterday to give away the US Treasury when he voted in favor of the new, enhanced with extended unemployment benefits, and other goodies “stimulus” package. He votes against conservatism and his “new” hero McCain, is too cowardly to vote at all, despite being in DC in time for the vote. Go Mitt!

    Patriot:

from what I heard on the radio was that Mccain was flying into DC and might not make the vote on time. What might have happened if there were a bunch of votes Mccain might have started to vote when he got there and missed a vote or two that took place yesterday.

    Richard:

the candidate who expressed the ideas of the party kicked butt! The two candidates who haven’t expressed the ideas of the party lost big even though one was endorsed by the governor. And it’s easy to get people to vote for you when you say I’ll give away free health care, attack corportations, etc. It’s the DFL that is empty of ideas.

To the person who said that this hurts Tim I’m sort of in agreement. Hopefully Tim will wake up since his candidate which embraces global warming and no drilling in ANWAR got killed by the party base. Get that Tim. The party base doesn’t support DFL measures on the environment coming from Republicans.

Just to remind the DFL zombie trolls:

The New England Patriots thought they had the Super Bowl won in December. Seems to me they lost too.

And counting heads at a caucus is an indication of exactly: NOTHING. If the shoe was on the other foot, I wouldn’t crow about the numbers either.

Just to remind the republiCons – Mitt Romney just dropped out, assuring that America will have a liberal president elected this November!!!

The scam of the Neo-Con Movement is over!

  11. Pete Says:

Hey pudd-less. You have no idea what your talkin about. Wait a minute, everyone already new that. Never mind.

  12. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    February 7th, 2008 at 2:08 PM

    Say, Punky?

Why don’t you recite McCain’s Impeccable Conservative Credentials?

    Shouldn’t take you too long….

  13. walter Hanson Says:
    February 7th, 2008 at 3:18 PM

    eight putt:

No offense, but I thought Neo-con’s aggressively used the military in a wrong way. To the best of my knowledge one of Mccain’s strengths was that he will agressively try to win the war on terror and protect America. Last time I looked that will make him a Neo-con. economic conservativism might have been hurt by his nomination.

  14. Pete Says:
    February 7th, 2008 at 3:21 PM

There you go puddles, let me know if you have trouble understanding what Mr. Hanson said…

  15. Richard Says:
    February 7th, 2008 at 5:01 PM

McCain will let the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy ride off into the sunset. He knew they were a horrible idea to begin with. McCain will aggressively use diplomacy to settle differences with our adversaries. McCain will not allow intellegent design to be taught in public school science classes. McCain will push for real sex education instead of abstinance only. McCain will not allow drilling in ANWAR. McCain will push for higher CAFE standards on US car makers. McCain fathered a child of color outside the bonds of holy matrimony. McCain will seek amesty for homosexual illegal immigrants who wish to get married in a Mosque.

  16. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    February 7th, 2008 at 6:46 PM

No offense, but I thought Neo-con’s aggressively used the military in a wrong way.

Agreed. IF (and that’s a mighty big ‘IF’) McCain wins, I doubt you’ll see the neo-con, “Cowboy Diplomacy” practiced by Bush The Lesser. This means that you won’t see an invasion of Iran, under a McCain Presidency.

IMNSHO, had McCain won 8 years ago, I doubt we would have seen the Iraq invasion. Lets face it; McCain is a LOT smarter than Boy Blunder.

  17. maxx Says:
    February 7th, 2008 at 8:39 PM

Too bad the straw poll meant nothing anyway. The people should be allowed to vote in a primary where the vote is binding, thus taking the power away from the party hacks and giving it back to the people where it belongs.
I think ir’s just a tad ironic a few Dems think this is a good idea but the Blessed Leader of Conservatism in Minnesota will have none of that.
Oh Ron, your ego is showing!

  18. shozzy Says:
    February 7th, 2008 at 9:57 PM

The people told Ron Carey and Tim Pawlenty to take a hike. The best thing that would happen if McCain wins (which he can’t) is that Tim Pawlenty would be on a plane to Washington faster than you can say Governor’s Climate Change Advisory Group.

  19. MarkH Says:
    February 7th, 2008 at 10:18 PM

As the Minnesota GOP continues to slink deeper and deeper into obscurity….

The highly compensated chair backs a wing-nut who pulls 20%, while 42% foams at the mouth supporting who drops out of the race a day later.

  20. walter Hanson Says:
    February 8th, 2008 at 2:29 PM

Keep in mind the wing-nut as you refered to him has been operating a campaign on no money basically. He’s adjusted to that. Rommey got out because the math showed if he started to win everything he wouldn’t get the nomination. Even with Rommey out of the race the wing-nut needs to get 83% of the delegates. The problem is the wing-nut hasn’t seriously pursued the nomination (how on Earth can you go for the nomination by not attacking the leader?). He’s been doing this in part for the fun, in part for the possibility of the VP spot, and in part because he’s trying to get ready for 2012.

  21. Richard Says:
    February 9th, 2008 at 9:25 AM

By 2012, the GOP will be so far down in the polls, they won’t be able to get a dog catcher elected. America’s experiment with fascism is over. Reaganism is dead.

  22. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    February 11th, 2008 at 11:48 AM

Well, Richard, I don’t know about “dead”, but:

I highly doubt we’ll see the GOP in the majority in the House, Senate, and Presidency again, during my lifetime.

The problem is, GOPers dislike government. Consider the following, widely attributed to Uncle Ronnie (even by Michelle Malkin, so you KNOW it has to be true!):

“The best minds are not in government. If any were, business would hire them away.” Ronald Reagan 40th president of US (1911 – 2004)

Clearly, the GOP functions best as critics of those who run government, because they’ve proven they cannot govern. Indeed, they have no desire to “govern”; they tend towards “rule.”

Their day has come, and gone.
