PREVIEW OF NARN “THE FINAL WORD” THIS SATURDAY: A FRANK CONVERSATION ABOUT THE MCCAIN CANDIDACY

    By Michael B. Brodkorb | February 8, 2008

I'll be on the radio this Saturday for a two-hour program from 3-5 p.m. with King Banaian of SCSU Scholars on AM 1280 The Patriot. While King and I usually focus on Minnesota politics, we've decided to have a frank conversation about Senator John McCain's presidential campaign. McCain will likely be the Republican presidential nominee in 2008. I voted "uncommitted" on Tuesday night and I'll explain why on the program.  Ben Golnik, who coordinated McCain's Minnesota efforts on Super Tuesday, will be a guest from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Ben has agreed to answer questions from callers who have concerns about McCain's candidacy. I have a few concerns of my own.

I'll also be addressing the ridiculous myth pushed by liberal bloggers and the DFL that Governor Pawlenty is somehow the big loser of Super Tuesday. It's amazing what liberal blogs will publish when their desperate for attack material on Pawlenty.

Before you listen to King and me, make sure you listen to the first four hours of the Northern Alliance Radio Network. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. you can hear Power Line's John Hinderaker and Chad and Brian from Fraters LibertasMitch Berg and Captain Ed are on the air from 1-3 pm.

I encourage you to all to listen.  Broadcasts can be heard on AM 1280 The Patriot, which has an Internet stream for those outside the Twin Cities. Brave Democrats and proud Republicans can join the conversation at (651) 289-4488.

      Mike:

I will unfortunately have to be working during the show, but maybe you can raise these points:

      * Why should Republicans give money to John Mccain. After all this man has championed trying to limit our right to buy speech and argue issues. Furthermore he creates the impression that he is a liberal democrat not worthy of support.

      * Will John Mccain run on ideas that will help us to gain Congressional seats or keep our losses down. 2008 is a tough year even if a Reagan was on the ballot. In 2010 assuming Mccain gets elected we’re likely to lose seats. In 2012 when Mccain runs for reelection a bunch of Democrat Senators will be up for reelection including Amy K. If Mccain gives them a pass (which I’m afraid he will) Amy K can say I made real change and stoped horrible things from happening. It should be the opposite. John Mccain should be creating vote after vote where Amy K will show she’s not worthy: not making the tax cuts permanent, no tough votes forcing the border to be secured first, no campaign to seriously reform entitlements, etc.

      * John Mccain’s debate performance. I think Mccain has been performing badly. Come this fall when he debates Hillary let alone the O guy he will be preceived as the loser. Isn’t that how come lots of people thought Kennedy kicked Nixon’s butt in the debates in 1960 and helped him win.

      * John Mccain being the nominee surrenders lots of winning issues. Lets forget drilling for oil on ANWAR and offshore. Let gas shoot up to five or six dollars a gallon. In the meantime Democrats can complain about how bad that the oil companies are and make moves which take away their profits. Ben that was a windfall profits tax put in while Carter was President and Reagan had to repeal. No debate on whether global warming is a hoax. Mccain thinks it’s real and the only harm is that the planet will be cleaner if he’s wrong. Forgotten are lost jobs. Keep in mind George Bush 43 is president because he won West Virginia! No West Virginia win he isn’t president. On a preelection 2000 prediction I had made I got 45 states right. Two predictions I got wrong were Florida (the purpose of the exercise was if Bush lost Florida could he win) and West Virginia because I didn’t believe that Bush could win the state. Mccain is letting it go back into the Democrats column by not caring about the jobs that the coal industry will lose!

      * And can we trust John Mccain. I remember this guy George Bush in 1988 who said read my lips “No new taxes” We only have Mccain’s word that his judges will be conservative (lets forget gang of 14 not to mention a secret limtus test on Mccain Feingold or multisourced comments that he won’t support a Alito). This is the guy who has been documented twice as thinking of leaving the Republican party.

Even if I vote for Mccain part of this Ben is do I give money! Do I volunteer time! Convince me that Mccain is worthy investing in.
