MN GOP PRESS RELEASE: “ON IRAQ, FRANKEN IS ONLY KIDDING HIMSELF”
By Michael B. Brodkorb | February 12, 2008
"The only candidate kidding himself about Iraq is Al Franken. Whether he's denying his initial support for the war or denying that he called for cutting off funds for our troops, Al Franken has shown that there isn't a lie he won't tell if he thinks it will get him elected. Minnesotans aren’t going to support a candidate like Franken who continually deceives them." - Ron Carey, Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman
Franken Last Night:
"Anyone who tells you that he knows how we're going to get out [of Iraq], exactly how, is either kidding you or kidding themselves.” (International Falls DFL Senate Candidate Forum, February 11, 2008)
Franken Last Week:
"There's no great way out of Iraq, we know that. And anyone who tells you that they know exactly how we're going to do this, is either lying to themselves, or to you.” (Al Franken in Park Rapids, February 1, 2008)

Flashback: Franken Acknowledged Supporting The War “Because Of The WMDs”:
"Franken said the Bush administration misled the country when they argued Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. 'I supported the war when we went because of the WMDs," he said. "It is one thing for a president to lie about sex — it is another thing to lie about why we are sending our men and women in harm's way. This administration failed in so many ways on this war.'" (Mathew Sanders, "Franken shares political perspective at LSU," The Reveille, March 10, 2004)
Franken Has Also Claimed He Was "Agnostic On The War" Before It Started:
"I was agnostic on the war. I was convinced from Colin Powell’s testimony they did have weapons of mass destruction. But since then obviously we’ve learned that that isn't, wasn't, what’s the word? True. It wasn’t true. Looking at it, I think it’s actually clear that we were misled." ("Hardball," MSNBC, February 20, 2004)
Flashback: Franken Spoke Out Against Cutting Off Funds:
Franken: "We'll cut funds is the bluntest instrument, where you are undercutting our troops in the field, no one is going to do that." "(Al Franken Show," Air America Radio, November 29, 2006)
Franken Now For Cutting Off Funds:
Franken: "I think you make the President cutoff funding for the troops. I mean, I think…you see, I think that…" Question: "There's definitely a lot of Democrats that are just not willing to bite that bullet, so to speak." Franken: "I think by then they will be. I think they heard." (Talking Points Memo Website, June 14, 2007, http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/014615.php)

So, basically, Michael, what you’re sayin’ here is that Franken has a stump speech, and you guys have a tracker.
And you’re tracker thinks ya got Franken in a “Gotcha!” moment.
What this tells me, is there’s a reason Coleman, Paulsen, Kline, and the rest of the GOPers are so afraid to show up in public over and Over and OVER, and deliver a stump speech over and Over and OVER, and that reason is they know THEY would be filmed.
This isn’t that big of a deal, Michael – other than showing how desperate your side is for something to rip Al about, AND demonstrating your candidates hide like little children, lest THEY be caught in a “Gotcha!” moment.

Compared with Norm’s comments on the Iraq war, Franken sounds crystal clear.

I still haven’t heard a Democrat talk about what else can be done to ensure we win in Iraq. All they have to say is “surrender.”
Funny timing too, considering the fact that AQI is in shambles, violence against U.S. and Iraqis is a fraction of what it was 12 months ago, and significant gains are being made in political reconciliation.
Any day now, Democrats will shift with the winds and talk about how they helped turn the tide…

“I still haven’t heard a Democrat talk about what else can be done to ensure we win in Iraq. All they have to say is “surrender.—
Yeah, “right”.
I’ve still never heard a republican talk about what consititutes a “win.”
The reason violence is down, is because our military changed doctrine, from “conventional warfare” to “unconventional warfare” – TWO YEARS after it was obvious it was an uncoventional war.
Well, really, it was an “unconventional occupation” – the war was declared over by Bush, on an aircraft carrier.
You do remember that “Mission Accomplished” speech, doncha?
And, Bush WAS correct: The invasion toppled the regime, and the Iraqi military stood down. The war was over.
Unfortunately, no one in the Bush Administration made any plans for securing the peace – let alone the ammo dumps the Insurgency looted, because the Bush Administration failed to send enough troops to secure them.
Did you ever wonder where the IED materiel came from, Chestnut?
Why republicans refuse to hold this administration accountable for anything is the subject of a different thread – but it doesn’t change the fact this administration completely failed in every aspect of the occupation of Iraq.
The military did everything that was asked of them – it was the Administration that insisted on a failed plan; it was the Administration that insisted that the tried and true Powell Doctrine be replaced with the Rumsfeld Doctrine, which by any analysis is a complete failure.

TPT
More rhetoric from mister I hate Republicans!!
You never responded to my question last week when I asked you if you were a racist.
Are you? I have ready too many of your post that are full of hate and racist remarks.
You claim to be so knowledgeable about every post Michael puts up and when most anyone challenges your remarks you respond by calling them Bootlicker or a Cheney ect… get a life and stop blaming republicans for everything. You are a nothing in the world of politics in Minnesota. Who pays your salary to spew your hate? Your one of many racist democrats who hide behind the liberal party and spew your hate over the airwaves to cover what a pathetic loser you are. You have no solutions to anything and contribute less by talking more.
February 13th, 2008 at 11:40 AM
Ahhh, the daily talking points from 2putt. How about coming up with some new BS rather repeating the same old BS?
February 13th, 2008 at 11:57 AM

You posted a lot of words, just to not make a point.

Never thought I’d do this… Putt’s been fairly civil the last few days, probably more so then some of the rest of us. Not that he wanted to but still… He may be wrong all the time but at least he isn’t being as rude and vulgar as he once was. Putt, I still don’t like you
February 13th, 2008 at 12:32 PM
Pete, I’d still make you count your strokes
February 13th, 2008 at 2:40 PM
TPT
Once again you are ducking the questions I have asked more than once.
I made my question very clear all three times I have asked you.
Answer my question… again… are you a RACIST?
You jump all over Michael and others when they don’t answer your questions.
If you can’t answer the question you are what I think you are.
Pete he may be better that he once was but still an arrogant liberal that always answers a question with another question or just ducks it all together.
But holds everyone else accountable.
TPT I’m sorry your life sucks
February 13th, 2008 at 3:40 PM
hottip, No arguement there. But at least we can always count on him to be wrong.
February 13th, 2008 at 4:57 PM
“If you can’t answer the question you are what I think you are.”
Michael won’t allow me to post what I think of you.
But, you can guess….
February 14th, 2008 at 7:56 AM
Putt, The only insult that would hurt is if you called most of us here a Democrat. The lowest of lows… Go for it dude.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:32 PM
Go ahead TPT let me have it.
The repoman in me can take it.
Once again ducking the questions I have asked.
What is it like being the half a man you are who throws stones than hides when the enemies fights back.
