FROM STAR TRIBUNE: PAWLENTY VETOES TRANSPORTATION BILL
By Michael B. Brodkorb | February 22, 2008
"Gov. Tim Pawlenty wasted no time today vetoing a $6.6 billion transportation bill that had passed the House and Senate on Thursday and landed on his desk just before midnight.
By early afternoon, Pawlenty rejected the bill, calling it an 'overreaching, massive tax increase that will further burden Minnesotans during already difficult times.'
DFLers, who control the House and Senate, said they plan to attempt an override as soon as Monday, although their ability to succeed in the House is far from certain." Source: Star Tribune, February 22, 2008

I just got an email from Sen. Terri Bonoff (D-Jackass). She described how she co-authored this wonderful transportation bill that would spend 6.6 billion dollars and create 33,000 jobs, but she completely failed to mention anything about any tax increase.
If anybody would like to see this unbelievable misrepresentation of a bill click here

After reading Steve Murphy’s latest demagogic quote, I’m issuing a call to arms against that disgusting liar.

By call to arms, are you suggesting violence?
Just curious.

If you can’t convince the Rhino Republican’s hopefully enough pressure can be brought on a few of the Conservative Democrats.
Even the Senate has a few non-metro conservative Democrats who could give the Republicans a veto sustaining possibility in the Senate as well. I hope the leadership is talking to those Senators.

IMHO, the Democrats had better be careful lest they get what they wish for… imagine if you will that Minnesotans will believe the rhetoric and promises the DFL has made and actually think this additional spending will quickly solve all of the state’s transportation problems.
A few years from now, most of the state’s residents will not see any significant improvements in their roads and bridges but will see the impacts of the taxes in their thinner wallets – setting up a massive “throw the tax-raising bums” out opportunity.
As for ASC Mayor’s comment about non-Metro conservative Democrats helping sustain the veto, I suspect the DFL bosses will deny campaign assistance, party endorsement and even find a primary challenger for any conservative Democrat who dares not toe the party line.
To Gary Gross – there are few things I would appreciate more than to see a recall of Sen. Murphy and his seat being takenover by a conservative Republican.
