REPRESENTATIVE MARTY SEIFERT’S SPEECH ON THE DFL TRANSPORTATION PLAN
By Michael B. Brodkorb | February 22, 2008
The taxpayers of Minnesota have a right to be upset with yesterday's legislative activity on the DFL transportation plan. While most the attention is being placed on the Republicans that voted for the bill, I'd thought I write a post about a Republican that did a great job yesterday. Please watch this video clip of Representative Marty Seifert's speech at the end of the debate yesterday on DFL's transportation bill. It's a wonderful speech.
I'll be highlighting the other solid Republicans that stood together in an effort to fight-off the urge to raise taxes during tomorrow's radio show.

When a party loses its vision and sense of direction, its leaders are forced to beg for a vote that will stay within the margin that could sustain a veto.
It’s like a kid getting pummeled on the playground begging for mercy. That is what the republican party in this state has become. Watchout. The knock out punch will be coming in the form of a veto override.

MAR-TY!!!!
MAR-TY!!!!!!
MAR-TY!!!!!!!

I love the analogy of the kid being pummeled. If Marty is the kid, does that mean that the DFL is the bully picking on the kid? Seems like that would fit.

booyah, and the bully usually gets his/her payback. Won’t the DEMS be surrprised when they aren’t re-elected.

A bully is a perfect analogy.
Except a better one might be a large thief sticking a gun in the face of the little kid and demanding all his lunch money.
Then, giving him back a few cents and telling him to be happy for his compromise.

LOL Sam….were you listening to Rep. Mark Buesgens yesterday?
Rep. Buesgens did his district proud yesterday!

LL: You served us all proud by your blogging. Thanks for all that you do.

Pretty good stuff.
This guy took shots at liberals and lobbyists; I say good for him!!!
Why not let all these taxes go in to law? Then when people understand what the democrats did, the tide will turn.
BTW - the chamber of commerce really screwed up on this one. Just another reason I don’t belong to that organization.

Marty Seifert had an unbelievably challenging week. This speech is frankly nothing short of tremendous.
Tuesday’s bus tragedy in Cottonwood was enough to test the mettle of anyone from those parts. Marty was optimistic Saturday onyour show about the prospects of holding the Governor’s veto above the desires of the leftist jackals that are after taxpayer’s wallets. Marty sincerely believed he had the rock solid minority he had last year.
But some of his colleagues were lying to him. These are the same squishy incumbent fools for whom he wrote letters of recommendation.
When the s&^$ piles up it’s time to clean out the barn. If republicans fail to exact consequences for those who voted for the bill, especially those who vote this week to overide the veto, then a very important moment of correction will be lost, as well as a lot of credibility for the 2008 elections.
God bless the folks from Cottonwood. And God bless Marty Seifert. He’s my pick for GOP hero of the week. I’m pray that he is blessed with the courage to answer the dire challenge before him and lead us out of this mess.

Typical weak rhetoric from Marty. The minority should be ashamed that he is the best they can offer. My prediction is that the House hits 90 on Monday and he’s toast this November!

Right on Drew. What are these people thinking. They were elected to represent the Republican party, not something silly like the voters of their districts. And for them to turn their backs on the party in favor of the people who “technically” got them elected, well, I bet there will be hell to pay come election time.

The voters of their district who don’t want this gigantic tax bill? Or the tax money addicts at their local units of government and the special interests and unions on skid row begging for tax dollar change?
Marty hit the nail on the head. I still think floor debates should be required viewing for voters. I know, wishful thinking for people to pay attention. But no more wishful than Clem saying Marty will be toast.
Toast will be alot of first term Dems and a few of their rural Dem friends.

Michael - thanks, but I can’t take all the credit. Gary Gross did a bang up job live blogging it as well.
Having said that, we’ll probably do the same thing for the veto over-ride vote on Monday!

Thanks for linking the speech; I was in my office and could not watch the proceedings.
Why would anyone with an ounce of sense spend before they know how much is available?
Seiffert is right. The democrats want to rush through all this spending before they get the next budget forecast. Just wait until the bill comes.
To dumb it down for you young liberals-in-training at the U of M: Let’s say when you’re working the drive-thru at McDonald’s, and someone orders a ton of food and then has no money or credit card to pay for it.
Don’t ya just hate it when that happens?

What ever happened to the will of the people? Not the will of the special interest groups. The Rats always site the polls, why not now?
February 23rd, 2008 at 9:03 am
RiR: So, you are arguing that these republicans voted against their party AND the voters in their district? I would think that after the governor came an informed them that they would get fully-supported primary opponents if they voted for the bill, the last thing they would want is a funded candidate and an angry electorate.
Seems to me either these people are just magnificently stupid, or maybe just you are.
February 23rd, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Geez Larry, I didn’t know you were in the closed door meeting. Staff couldn’t even get in… I also didn’t know that the Governor chooses House Republican candidates.
You are a moron. But hey, if it makes you feel better to call me stupid, I’d be happy to accept the money you should put toward therapy.

Every Rep should represent the people of their district not a party. Hat’s off to Otremba, she stood with the people not the party.
