As a former Anoka resident, I am wondering which County Commissioner is going to make a few $$$ of this selling their land for the new "choo choo" tracks or new roads.

I guess my Grandfather should have held on to his farm rather than sell it to Federal Cartridge in the 1950's.

Oh never mind, some Anoka County Commissioner probably would have screwed him out of it anyways.

Jim, I live here, and I'm a delegate in 49B. Just like everyone else in the 7 county metro, we'd like our road congestion fixed. This was a tax hike, for Metro Transit. Of course your Democratic friends somewhere in Anoka county are for this. Buy more $200,000 green buses. Those of us who commute from this district, which is a majority, are not in favor of paying more for gas for the commute, and having Rep Tinglestad continue ignoring the wishes of this community, which she doesn't even live in anymore.

First an 8% property tax increase, followed by another 15% the next year...topped off with a nice, juicy gas tax increase...sweet!

I'm guessing that the "happy to pay" citizens in St. Paul are wallowing in a sticky puddle of happy goo right about now.

I am not in your district but under Niel Peterson
in Dist. 41 - he is a wolf in sheep skin or a Democrat saying he is a Republican. These people have got to be eliminated by the GOP - let them switch parties and run as Democrats. Up front we know where they stand on issues of spending.

Honeydog, nearly all of my colleagues and neighbors here in Anoka are applauding her vote! Only about one-half of the Republicans but nearly all the independents and DFL'ers.

At least then the people would get what they deserve, vote DFL and your taxes will go up. :)

You will also get no more roads nor bridge repair byond maybe 5-10% of the funds collected. It will however buy you more transit options very few use.

This is the first time that I have posted on this website. Kathy Tinglestad and Jim Abeler are most certainly not RINOS's. I say this as a former Republican who now caucuses and votes DFL. Both are conservative Republicans by any reasonable measure! Here in Anoka County, transportation is a huge issue. Many people - no matter what their politics - want better roads and improved transit choices in Anoka County. Reps. Tinglestad and Abeler are voting how many of their constituents want them to vote. Of course no one likes tax increases but, the raising the gas tax and the vehicle tax and dedicating that funding to roads and transit is the closest thing to a user fee which is most fair way of paying for the system.

The arch conservatives who populate the endorsing convention do not represent most voters in Anoka County. Both Reps. Tingelstad and Abeler are pretty popular in their districts and if it is a primary fight that certain conservatives are spoiling for, then a primary battle is what they shall have. But if Rep. Tinglestad and Abeler were to lose to far right conservatives in the primary, then you can count on these two seats going into the DFL column after the election next Novemeber.

Titan Trader:
It's worse than a 45%. What you done is added up the percentage increases biennium over biennium. You need to multiply the increases period over period. If you have a 10% increase year over year, the five year increase from year one is 61%, not 50%.
For the state, the increase is 53% in spending. Population hasn't increased 53% (well, not that I'm aware due in part to illegals and how the DFL loves those little law breakers!). Therefore needs haven't increased 53%. My lands, where are all those new necessities coming from?

What good are these RINO Republicans if we can't count on them to at least sustain a veto by a Republican governor over a massive tax increase?

If these RINOS can't support the Gov on this issue, they deserve to be ousted. Noone who votes to override this veto will ever receive my vote.

Andrew, go back to your echo chamber blogs. This one might expose you to way too much common sense. That would wreck your liberal cred. And you can also feel smart. Your previous post could fly elsewhere, but it only makes you sound dumb here.

If I'm not mistaken, alot of problems we now have are a result of the "New Deal". Social Security? Medicare? Big Government?

On an interesting note, my mom was at the local Rainbow yesterday. She had a shopping cart full of food and a well dressed lady approached her. Told my mom that she would buy her groceries with her food stamps as long as my mom paid her half of that in cash. My mom informed the lady that she can't do that and that she works for Ramsey County Human Services. The leech was more astounded at "picking the wrong person" than abusing the system. But she must have known she was wrong because she immediately left. I might be off topic but my mom also was once offered a bus pass for money that was given to the seller by the State to use the bus to find a job. He pulled up in a Cadillac...

Are you are telling me that nobody can find enough waste in Gov't programs to redivert more money towards roads and bridges? Especially after Dems gave welfare programs a big increase last year.

Man, I haven't even said anything about the free bus tokens the State gives the drunks they put in jail for a ride home... They try to sell them at the bus stop... What a waste.

Andrew, go back to your echo chamber blogs. This one might expose you to way too much common sense. That would wreck your liberal cred. And you can also feel smart. Your previous post could fly elsewhere, but it only makes you sound dumb here.

If I’m not mistaken, alot of problems we now have are a result of the “New Deal”.

My mom informed the lady that she can’t do that and that she works for Ramsey County Human Services. The leech was more astounded at “picking the wrong person” than abusing the system. But she must have known she was wrong because she immediately left. I might be off topic but my mom also was once offered a bus pass for money that was given to the seller by the State to use the bus to find a job. He pulled up in a Cadillac…

No, it's because the people on this site are immature. If everyone on every blog acted more mature and spoke to each other in a more mature manner, the partisan tention between our two parties would be severely lessened. Why not set an example?

Well, Andrew, considering significant GDP growth resumed only in 1946, it wasn't really the New Deal that pulled us out of the Depression. It was the WWII and ramping all the industry for the war effort that never decreased after the war ended.

Then that's a fairly written question. If you ask most people if they want the prices of food to go up, they would also say no. Same goes with housing prices.

There are problems I have with this bill (I wish it would address the funding formula - the Metro doesn't get enough compared to its population - but I don't see that changing with Murphy playing such a big role in this - and there's a bipartisan interest with rural pork with these bills) - I also am more interested in maintenance than new roads. Mary Liz Holberg was talking about this problem on Strom's show on Saturday - and on that point, I agree with her.

I have a small car - which gets good mileage. And no, I don't want an SUV. Interesting how people attack me, rather than the points I make. (Except for Chris - who specifically addressed my point).

I love Republican dissaray :)

I guess I'd have to point out how now we have economic troubles in the state and the DFL is getting the blame because of our liberal policies and blah blah blah. What can be said then of the national economic status? Republicans dominated every corner of government from 2008 until a year ago and they got through a lot of conservative economic policies, and yet, we have a very gloomy forecast.

When the Great Depression hit, it was certainly not the Republicans and their pro-business attitude that got us out of it, it was the Democrats and the New Deal program, probably the most quinessential set of legislation that describes what makes someone a Democrat.

Tingelstad never asked for the endorsement delay.

Dan Erhart was at the convention to console her (prehaps offer a job?).

It was not Tinglestad that wanted the delay, rather after a recess and lunch the delegates came back and chose not to open the floor for endorsement. At no point did she ever even bring up the transportation bill issue. She basically told the delegates that she was as good as they were going to get. How errogant! But, not surprising as she has taken lessons from Anoka County Commissioner Dan Erhart who was apparently there to console her out in the hall after the convention. Probably offering her a nice cushy county job if she betrays her party on the override. You see, Tinglestad can be bought.

Kathy T. hasn't represented her district very well for a long time. In fact, most of the Anoka County delegation is very limited in their ability to represent the district.

Eva:

Before you started editing posts on your "Dumbster" site, I predicted that MN would experience a recession because of increased taxes being proposed by the DFL clowns in the House and Senate. Because you and the gang spent your time in college taking "Diversity 101" instead of Economics, the responses I received were typical emotional liberal rants instead of fact based logic. You should probably post something to your 5 or 6 readers crediting me for my prediction! Granted, the entire country is experiencing the recession, but it hit here first. Make sure you mention the parts where I predicted the job losses due to corporations wanting to move or not locate here because of the oppressive business climate, and how the threat of increased taxes would exacerbate the situation.

Since you have a history of wasting MN taxpayer money, but now want to pay additional taxes, here is the address to send a check to:

Minnesota Revenue
600 North Robert Street
St. Paul, MN 55101

By all means encourage your fellow libs to do the same. You should send out a check tomorrow as you have some catching up to do if you know what I mean, and you obviously do.

Ok you liberals on a rant here - you only use polls when they are suited to yourself, you think everybody else should pay more taxes but you and that government handouts are a right. Tingelstad, Peterson, Erhardt, Hamilton, Heidgertken and Abeler all deserve to be eliminated. Minnesota's biggest employers now are the State of Minnesota and the Federal Government - that is a major problem. You can blame both parties, a third party or who ever you want but rest assured we can not tax our way out of a recession. The largest budget in state history last year and the DFL accomplished not a single priority they promised and have to raise taxes to do anything rather then reign in other government spending or eliminating of wasteful programs. Moving from middle of the pack in gas tax to highest or one of the highest in the nation and the highest in sales taxes (if sales tax amendment also passes)sure isn't going to have CEO's looking at starting up business or moving a business to Minnesota. The the DFL will say we will next need to raise income taxes to balance out the tax increase portfolio - get the picture JOB KILLERS!

Eva,

The question was asked whether voters approved raising the gas tax to improve the condition of roads and bridges. They said no. You're right that we need to maintain our roads better, but we can do it if we spend our money wiser. I'd only support raising the gas tax a few cents if the money were used to bond for the roads.

How were the questions on the gas tax asked in the poll? I'd personally rather pay a gas tax, and have potholes fixed, than do all the extra car repairs I've had due to car damage from our crappy roads. 94 shouldn't be in bad shape - but it is. There are regularly potholes on 94.

That was a strategic error for Tinglestad not to make her case to the delegates about why she voted the way she did. I'd assume that even though many would still be mad, that some who disagree would respect her more, because she explains and defends her vote.

If Tinglestad and the DFL were actually representing the will of their constituents, they would have rejected this package. According to the Survey USA poll taken on February 10, 59% of Minnesotans opposed raising the gas tax to improve the condition of roads and bridges. The same poll found that 62% of Minnesotans opposed raising license tab fees and also found that half of Minnesotans disapproved of the job performance of the Minnesota state legislature.

Apparently Larry the Senator is as unpopular here as Senator Larry is with the people of Minnesota.

I was a delegate at the SD49B BPOU convention today. While I can respect Tinglestad apparently making this vote to try and represent what she feels is her representatve constituency, when given the opportunity, she made no attempt at explaining her vote nor made any mention of it. This was a Republican convention to endorse our Republican candidate. She won't be our candidate if she votes to override.

"....voting her district rather than her party."

I happen to live in 49B and have been to the SD49 BPOU meetings. Have you? If you had, then you would realize this is hardly a vote that the majority of 49B GOP residents support.

"The DFL Senate has roadblocked reforms to cause serious growth and maintain smaller spending and taxes."

Are you trying to tell me that in the time period between 1970 and today we haven't had significant economic growth in this state?

You have now provided definiative proof of my earlier point.

Republicans no longer stand for fiscal conservatism, and as they struggle to make ends meet in this tanking economy, voters are unlikely to race to the polls to support the candidate whose only stance is in opposition to gay immigrants getting married and having abortions.

political muse:

show the time frame since 1970 when the following has taken place:

  * A Republican governor

  * A Republicans house majority

And the critical one * A Republican senate majority.

To the best of my knowledge none!

The DFL Senate has roadblocked reforms to cause serious growth and maintain smaller spending and taxes.

Let the Republicans have the state senate for just four years and watch dramatic change for the better.

Okay Larry:

Are you saying in the year 1997 the state budget was $37.74 billion. Please cite your source. Titan trader wasn't quoting a made up stat.

Thank you 49B for holding Tinglestad to the fire. If Tinglestad was allow to go to Saint Paul on Monday for thinking she can easily keep her job after voting for a 6.6 billion tax increase she will make the message loud and clear to everyone Republicans don't care about trying to keep tax burden down.

What a wonderful message we don't want to send. Tinglestad and the other Republicans why don't you if you vote to override the veto walk up to the Speaker and ask to be made Democrats on the spot! You certainly won't be able to get an endorsement after Monday as a Repbulican!

Excellent, and now the definitive connection between this growth and the lack of job growth.

Oh, and how many of those years saw a Republican as Governor? And Republicans in control of at least one House of the legislature?
