BREAKING NEWS FROM THE AP: “FRANKEN CAMPAIGN SAYS HE’LL PAY NY WORKERS’ COMP FINE”
By Michael B. Brodkorb | March 6, 2008
"MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Senate candidate Al Franken will pay a $25,000 fine to the state of New York for failure to carry workers' compensation insurance.
Franken was fined for not carrying the insurance for three years. The judgment was entered more than a year ago, but Franken's campaign says he didn't find out about it until this week, after it was reported by a blogger." Source: Associated Press, March 6, 2008

From the link, to the story:
***”“Campaign spokeswoman Jess McIntosh (MACK’ in tosh) says payment will be sent to the state, but Franken isn’t giving up his right to investigate or appeal the fine.“***
Anyone want to wager a frosty malt that Franken gets a refund?
Here’s the deal – you got a valid judgment, a “Collection Agency”, and a celebrity that’s easy to find with assets to seize and wages to garnish – but the judgment went unpaid before the celebrity left town??!?
Yeah, “right”.
Who’s on, for a friendly wager of one cold, draft frosty malt?
March 6th, 2008 at 10:02 AM
I don’t know what the big deal is. A lot of people pay fines for crimes they didn’t commit, don’t they?
March 6th, 2008 at 10:16 AM
Franken may have given up his right “to appeal the fine” when he did not respond to the NY state government’s notices.
March 6th, 2008 at 10:18 AM
Actually, gld – yes.
Often, it’s cheaper to pay the fine, then fight it.
It’s litigation based on economics.
Sad, but true. Been there. Done that.
March 6th, 2008 at 10:30 AM
The difference is that he’s running for US Senate and Minnesotans want a Senator who will stand on basic principles, not take the easiest, cheapest way out of a tough situation.
Franken is demonstrating how he will behave in the US Senate.
March 6th, 2008 at 10:40 AM
Nice dance, gld. Especially the spin move.
March 6th, 2008 at 11:05 AM
And how about his other tax issues. Seems he had an issue paying taxes previously as well.
here comes the implode.
Not to mention his obvious connection to the money Air America stole to pay Franken his wages. he was a major part of developing that company and for him to claim he had no knowlege, well…
Lying Lairs and the Lies they tell.
March 6th, 2008 at 11:19 AM
Hey eight putt how about two frosties? While I conceed that people pay in order to avoid making the penalty bigger it looks like that he is guilty and won’t get a refund.
But Tommy the two issues that should worry you if you’re a Franken supporter:
One, he apparently can’t read his own mail. This amount of mail was a lot less than he will get as a US Senator. So much for people think they can try to get him to think of a position.
And two, he thinks he has the right to impose laws and than ignore the ones that he thinks that doesn’t apply.
I’m going to have a gasoline and other taxes shoved down my throat and I don’t have Franken’s power to ignore it and not pay it. You’ve been attacking me for opposing it. Sounds like you should direct some of that same attack mode you have to Franken and vote for the C.
Or do Democrats have the right to break the law as long as they support laws you like?

***”And two, he thinks he has the right to impose laws and than ignore the ones that he thinks that doesn’t apply.“***
Say, Walter?
Where’dya come up with THIS one??!?
March 6th, 2008 at 11:51 AM
Lets see getting a bill for a program and not paying it. He is going to run around and say government should force businesses and individuals to do X, but appernetly thinks he doesn’t have to do X.
It’s a very simple concept, but apparently it goes over your head.

Well, hey – if you say it’s simple, Walter – I’ll accept that. If there’s ANYONE that knows simple, Walter, it’s you.

Big Kahuna. No wagering for TPT’s frosty malt?
Forms of this check [$25,000] may have been floating around in what is [now commonly] referred to as cyberspace for years.
It seems that about 25 years ago the New York Times reported that an Al Franken offered a $25,000 in prize to the winner of a one-mile run, provided some conditions were met.
So a couple of years ago Bill O’Reilley offers $25,000 contrasting his and Al Franken’s ratings.
About 25 years ago an Al Franken, the chairman of a track meet, offers $25,000 in prize money for a mile run.
Today apparently the Associated Press reports that Al Franken pays $25,000 to New York.
TPT wagers a frosty malt that Franken will get a refund.
This is only if the BIG Brothers (Kahuna & Stink)together and/or individually engage in such behavior as cyber-wagers.

Putt, don’t complain about others doing it to you if you are unwilling to stop doing yourself. It is very simple, Al is WRONG. He is trying to cheat the system, probably due to greed. He didn’t want to pay the money to protect his workers, probably due to greed.
March 6th, 2008 at 1:20 PM
Say, Pete?
“He is trying to cheat the system, probably due to greed.
No proof of that whatsoever.
He didn’t want to pay the money to protect his workers, probably due to greed.
No proof of that, whatsoever.
Do you really want to get into the “speculation” game, here, when ol’ Smokescreen is YOUR candidate?

What the blog-o-sphere needs to understand is that Minnesota is still in acaucus / primary process and therefore has many possible democrats thatcould take on norm Coleman and win. As loyal democrats we owe it to ourcountry to properly vet our candidates and let the best go forward in ourprocess. Refusing to talk about any faults of even one candidate jeopardizethe whole party. Al Franken has a well-proven history of turning his backon facts and spinning things in his favor: Al Franken has flip-flopped on the Iraq war, read the direct quotes on thispage: http://www.ciresiforsenate.com/interface/frankenAttackImg/page2Large.jpg He has a history of outbursts and tantrums,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncemI5vxJ5g, that are hardly the conduct of acandidate for high office. He has a pattern of questionable business practices,http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com/2006/01/did-al-frankens-outrageous-demands.html , only highlighted by the last few days issue of failing to pay workscomp for a few years and now paying a large fine.http://www.startribune.com/politics/state/16334106.html All cemented together by the quote, ³ No, I would be crushed by the sense ofresponsibility, voting on whether to authorize the use of force is a bigdecision, especially on a close call. I don¹t know if I could handle that.That¹s what you¹re doing when you elect someone: You¹re giving them theopportunity to handle it.² What does it tell you when a candidate for the US Senate says he would becrushed by the responsibility of the job if he where elected? I know ourparty can do better then this guy! All things considered Al Franken should hardly be the progressives firstchoice in the MN senate election. If you look at the poll numbers, Franken,Ciresi, and Jack are all with in the margin of error of each other onbeating Coleman but with Franken having almost 50% unfavorable while theother two are around 4-7%. This leads to the conclusion that Franken cannotappeal to the middle and thus he will cause a defeat for the DemocraticParty. Its time people stopped caring so much for the man they just heardon the radio and start thinking about the well being of their party more.It should tell you something when almost 80% of Franken¹s money has beenraised out of state! What would you rather have, a good fight to get Frankeninto office that would concentrate on his questionable past, or a fight withCiresi or Jack concentrating on Coleman¹s poor record. This isn¹t a callto rally around Franken because he is the only democrat standing; it¹s acall to look at the other candidates to prevent another McGovern  Eagletonaffair. Putt, unlike liars I did not state it as fact. I believe you frequently state your opinon as fact. Again I say it is probably due to greed. The left is extremely greedy. They always want to spend someone elses money.
March 6th, 2008 at 3:16 PM
Oh,PUtt – please show where I said I supported Norm? Maybe that book Angry Al wrote was about you…
March 6th, 2008 at 3:18 PM
I have a better one El pres & twopudd, how about if Norm wins, you never post here again. If Norm loses I will never post here again?
I have offered that up many times and twopudd is afraid to take it, so I find it funny now he is brave and will wager.
That and twopudd and I would have a very serious issue meeting in person. However since the short fat man stands about as tall as my waist, I guess I have to leave the poor little fat guy be or it seems like a big bully picking on an old, fat bigmouth that should just be ignored.
March 6th, 2008 at 3:20 PM
By the way, i will let that bet stand for another couple months and then forget it. Norm could very well lose and I am willing to stick my neck out now, you sissy’s will wait until election day and then try to come back saying Norm lost.
Liberals are not really good about taking risks, unless it can be on someone elses dime.
March 6th, 2008 at 3:23 PM
little stones, I have said many times I won’t make that wager with you, ’cause when you lose, you’ll just change your name and keep on posting.
I don’t make wagers with those that have no honor, little stones.

Walter;
What a Sheephead.
So you have absolute proof that Al Franken received those notices and then willfully disregarded them?
Why didn’t the NYWC office cross check their records and see that Al Franken inc. was paying for WC between 05 and 07 and thus they would have been able to contact him?
The NYWC records start at 3/29/05 and show that Al Franken Inc. had a renewal policy on that date, Tommy help them out “What does renewal mean?”.
The State Fund Insurance was the the carrier.
Michael, the MNGOP, Walter & the wingers are asking everyone to believe:
That Al, willfully ignored these notices to maybe save a few bucks.
The first fine would have been minimal , it’s because of the interest and penalties that the amount adds up
That Al, knowing how the Republican Smear Machine works, would willfully disregarded these notices, that are public record, there for everyone to see,and risk that type of negative publicity.
That Al, for no reason, but just because, willfully disregarded these notices.
They want us to believe all this so they don’t have to come up with excuses for Norm Coleman poor record and do nothing term in DC.
They know that Al will beat Norm in the general so they are trying to muddy the waters with unchecked information .

That’ll do Sheeple, that’ll do

This is just a guess, but:
“renewal” means that the policy was continued?
What do I win, HCDFL??!?

[...] Al Franken's legal troubles were mentioned during shows tonight on FOXNews and MSNBC. I'll try and post the clips tomorrow. [...]

Notice how the wingers don’t respond to facts?

As a matter of fact, HCDFL – I do notice that the wingers ignore facts.
rightwingers respond to “feelings”; not “facts”.

No PUtt, we ignore BS that liars post. Liars and people who have a thing for sheep…
March 7th, 2008 at 3:22 PM
Pete states, “No PUtt, we ignore BS that liars post. Liars and people who have a thing for sheep…”
1. I am not sure who Pete means by “we”?
2. Pete may be interested in a recent post by Walter Hanson, reviewed by el presidente, who also seems to have “a thing about sheep.”
The most INTELLECTUAL POST under this title may be POST #15 by homiefro.
