BREAKING NEWS: NEW POLL HAS COLEMAN WITH 10-POINT LEAD OVER FRANKEN, 29-POINT LEAD OVER NELSON-PALLMEYER
By Michael B. Brodkorb | March 16, 2008
A new KSTP/Survey USA poll has U.S. Senator Norm Coleman with a 10-point leader over Al Franken. Coleman leads Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer by 29 points. The poll was conducted after Mike Ciresi ended his campaign for the U.S Senate.
Coleman has opened up a lead over Franken amongst women and independents. This poll is bad news for Team Franken. I'll have more posts on the poll tomorrow.

This post also appears on Blogs for Norm!, an online community and blog covering the 2008 U.S. Senate campaign in Minnesota. The primary goal of Blogs for Norm! is to organize bloggers who support U.S. Senator Norm Coleman.

Oh, poor, poor Al.
Now that Ciresi is gone and Al has definitely got it, MDE should take bets on the Franken loss in the General. I’d say . . . 13 points. 17 if a third-party candidate jumps in.
March 17th, 2008 at 1:19 AM
Maybe Al can go back to New York and run for Spitzers job.
He must have an awful lot of “mail” to attend to at any rate, since it seems he skipped town with no forwarding address.
March 17th, 2008 at 8:24 AM
I knew no one would vote for this clown, other than the socialist zombie minions.
That being said, lately I put as much faith in poll accuracy as I put in my dog’s ability to perform advanced calculus.
March 17th, 2008 at 8:28 AM
Any of you geniuses bother to look at the tabs?
March 17th, 2008 at 9:01 AM
Twopud lives here, I swear! Even though he hates our ideology, he comments on every single subject.
Basement-dwelling mouth breather.
March 17th, 2008 at 9:38 AM
Tommy;
Let them enjoy this.
When it becomes a head to head race and Norm has to defend his “stand by Bush” record, the tide will turn.
I mean come on, who in their right mind would want six more years of the same failures we have had for the last six?
That’ll do Sheeple that’ll do

This exemplifies why it is that republicants are the only people who take Stanley Hubbard’s polls seriously.
If this were a reputable poll, they would have asked how Jack Shephard would do against Franken and Pallmeyer as well.
To ask about Darryl Stanton (WHO?) and not ask about Jack Shephard shows that their methodology was skewed to favor the incumbent benefactor of Hubbard’s political donations.
March 17th, 2008 at 10:59 AM
Hubbard’s poll is a fraud, I would not trust him even if he said Al is ahead by 10. He has funded the GOP warchest for decades and in no way would I ever consider anything by KSTP independent and non-biased.
March 17th, 2008 at 11:27 AM
the only poll that matters is in Nov. It’s a long way away. Fortunately, that’s just more time for Al to put his foot in his mouth
March 17th, 2008 at 11:47 AM
Well, thanks for the kudos, guys, but turns out I’m a Dem and I’m pretty comfortable saying that Franken is going to lose in November. Sound off will all the rhetoric you want, but he’s got no chance.
You say that the only poll that counts is in Novmeber. You’re right. And that poll is going to be a hell of a lot worse than this, and the crosstabs won’t matter one bit. Coleman’s baggage ain’t anything compared to Franken’s, and Coleman (who had $6 million COH has filing period and probably 8-9 milllion after this one) is going to go crazy on the airwaves attacking Franken from mid-August onwards. It’s going to be a sight.
March 17th, 2008 at 12:22 PM
Tom,
Your rhetoric and comments are so tired and worn out that it really does nobody any justice to read them.
I understand that you are a committed Democrat and that is fine, but if you are equally as committed to posting on MDE as you are to your ideology, can you please try and provide the readership with a level of insight that reflects an adult age.
Again, Tom–I am asking for the removal of the “Smokescreen” and “R=Lapdog” silliness that you seem to enjoy perpetuating.
The area that interests folks the most around here is to offer some commentary and insight into partisan politics.
Do you have anything substantive to offer here or not?
March 17th, 2008 at 12:53 PM
“Do you have anything substantive to offer here or not”?
About as much as franken can offer us in the Senate. I am just struck how low the DFL has sunk, this clown is all they have to offer? How can’t the DFL be embarrassed, hell, I am embarrassed for them. I have democratic friend’s from around the country calling and laughing at this mockery.
March 17th, 2008 at 1:51 PM
Titan Trader:
100% correct.
While I understand the ambivalence about Norm Coleman, offering Al Franken of all people as an alternative should be considered laughable at best.
Now, Tommy will stand here on MDE and scream at the rain and beat his drum about how awful, illegal, immoral and whatever else he wants to call Sen. Coleman…..and I think there are plenty of ways to levy criticism at Sen. Coleman.
But what folks like “Two Putt Tommy” do is simply recycle DFL, Howard Dean and DNC talking points. I think it gets a little tired. You know, with the “Smokescreen” and other junk.
Frankly, for an adult to carry on in such an adolescent tone—whether on a blog or not—the way Tom Johnson does, it really makes a guy wonder how old he really is.
I can’t speak for anyone else, but I think it is a sad state of affairs for a 29 year-old guy like myself to have to remind “Two Putt Tommy” of how foolish he sounds.
Now: Back to Coleman v. Franken.
MN Liberals run around this state and this country bragging about the high voter turnout that we have every election cycle.
Every year, the drumbeat starts up again; Look how engaged MN citizens are…isn’t this great…democracy in action…blah, blah, blah.
What they don’t mention is what goes on after many of these voters show up.
Just because MN has a high voter turnout percentage does not mean that we are some sort of “enlightened state or generation.” It does not mean that Minnesotans are so much wiser than folks in Kentucky, Louisiana or California.
It simply means that it is easier to vote in MN.
Period.
End of story.
It is a fact.
Ask any election judge how much they enjoy it. [Which, Mr. Brodkorb, should be a post for later in the fall]
The truth is that the DFL and really any Democrat running for a job relies so heavily upon the idea of same-day registration and shuttle buses from homeless shelters, bus stops and other misc. despot hangouts to voting booths that it should make most people sick.
Seriously folks, does anyone else out there wonder why we tolerate such nonsense at the voting booth?
You know about the bill that requires anyone wanting to vote, to provide some sort of state-issued ID at the registrar’s table…
Yeah, yeah, I know Two Putt—some people can’t afford them.
But, the state has suggested that they will foot the cost for providing this type of identification for them.
Yet, Rep. Keith Ellison opposes this measure.
Does anyone else just want to ask Rep. Ellison this question:
“What is it about this idea that you find so offensive?”
I thought the Democrats were the party that fought for the poor, lower income and poverty-level folks.
I guess that didn’t apply to the $6.6. billion gas tax either…..
Just because we vote does not mean we are that bright.
HHH
Mondale

Dayton
Ventura
(Insert House DFL member’s name here)
MN does not have sort of rich tradition by choosing great leaders, but the DFL sure suggests that we do.
Keep the faith Mr. Johnson.
The rest of us that get up at 5:30 AM to go to work for less and less money in exchange for your f’ing phony causes will remember who you are next time we’re around the VFW in the Southwest Metro.
March 17th, 2008 at 4:55 PM
Say, GOPer Optimist?
Since ya didn’t read the tabs, just say so.
Those of use that understand ‘em, realize ol’ Smokescreen’s in worse shape than Michael’s lettin’ on to.
As for this one:
“Yeah, yeah, I know Two Putt—some people can’t afford them.”
Actually, GOPer Optimist, it’s that the courts have ruled what you want, is an illegal form of poll-tax.
Which has been discussed ad nauseum. Which you continually ignore.
Which, of course, makes sense; after all, today’s GreedOverPrinciples Party simply doesn’t care about following the law.
March 17th, 2008 at 5:10 PM
So, Twopud, what is your suggestion for making sure that only legal voters are voting?
A real answer would be appreciated.
March 17th, 2008 at 5:15 PM
“So, Twopud, what is your suggestion for making sure that only legal voters are voting?”
One that meets constitutional muster.
So far, republiCons only seem interested in drafting legislation designed to create a wedge, not pass judicial review.
When you do draft legislation that meets constitutional muster, let me know. I’ll be all over it.
But that crap you copied from Georgia and Missouri didn’t cut it in courts there, and it won’t here.
And what really surprises me, is how little you ‘Cons care about Black-Box Fraud.
March 17th, 2008 at 5:20 PM
But, meanwhle, it’s ok with you that we only require a freaking utility bill to vote.
But we all know which party felons and illegals vote for, so it’s to your benefit.
Please don’t try to cop this holier than thou attitude about clean voting.
March 17th, 2008 at 5:24 PM
hey eight putt:
The Tabs say that Coleman has a 10 point lead. That is bigger than the margin of error. More importantly Coleman is at 51%.
Hey HCDFL:
There is a record worse than this Bush record that you will think will sink Coleman. That is the DFL agenda.
Al thought it was a good idea even though 60% plus opposed it.
Al was in favor of the war in 2002 just like Norm.
Al is in favor of horrible single payer health.
I look forward to Al trying to run on that record. And he help drag down many of those DFL house reps because republicans will be voting to keep Al out of the Senate unlike in 2006 when they forgot to show up.
And for those people who say it’s a Stanley Hubbard poll it’s a Survey USA Poll!

“But, meanwhle, it’s ok with you that we only require a freaking utility bill to vote.”
No. but, this is true: “Meanwhile, it’s ok WITH THE COURTS that only a freakin’ utility bill is required to vote.”
You republiCons sure have a high disregard for the rule of law.
Which, of course, explains your support for Boy Blunder And The Plunderers.
March 17th, 2008 at 7:28 PM
“Please don’t try to cop this holier than thou attitude…”
Speakin’ o’ “holier than thou”, is Boy Blunder still talkin’ to noted republiCon preacher, Pastor Ted Haggard, once a week?
March 18th, 2008 at 12:12 AM
Walter, are you sure he’s in favor of single-payer? Do you even know what that is?
March 18th, 2008 at 12:37 PM
Walter;
As far as the DFL Agenda goes, I think Minnesotans have been speaking loud and clear at the ballot box that they too, approve of the DFL Agenda.
MNGOP has spent lots of money telling Minnesotans that the DFLers are tax and spenders.
So I guess through our votes we said we are willing to pay taxes for what we needed to keep Minnesota, Minnesota.
Now on to Al
Al is in favor of allowing the states to decide how to cover their citizens.
He does support a single payer system, like Medicare, to cover all children 18 and younger, this will allow for immediate coverage, quicker enrollment and less expensive administrative costs.
Al did support the war in 2002, and just like the many others, because NO American thought their government would lie about the reasons to go to war.
Al believes we need to bring our troops home as soon as we safely can.
Al also knows that we just can’t turn our backs on the innocent Iraqis caught in the middle of their country’s civil war.
Norm still supports “staying the course” and has endorsed John McCain and his 100 year plan for Iraq (I wonder how many years their oil will last?)
Walter;
Funny how KSTP is the station showing the Franken tape, right after releasing a poll they took showing Norm why ahead, no bias there.
That’ll do Sheeple that’ll do

The DFL agenda which they got elected for in 2006 was to improve services and not raise taxes. They ran as not increasing taxes.
Their leaders after given power in 2006 said there was no need to raise taxes. Yet they have gone and raised taxes already by 6 billion plus. Show me the DFL leader who in 2006 said they were going to raise taxes 6 billion dollars. You can’t. Franken by the way endorsed a gasoline tax while over 60% of the public rejects it.
And keep in mind come this November those 60% will have their say! When the DFL suffers their large defeat you’ll try to spin it differently
HCDFL the intelligence suggested that Saddam Hussein was making weapons again! He had used chemical weapons on his own people before. SO QUIT REPEATING THAT LIE THAT SAID BUSH LIED!!!! IF YOU WANT TO LOOK AT A LIAR WALK TO A MIRROR AND LOOK AT YOUR REFLECTION!!!! THAT IS THE PERSON WHO KEEPS WANTING TO LIE ABOUT IRAQ!!!!!
The problem you have with the Mccain quote is that we have kept soliders in oversea bases even though they don’t seem to be needed. Russia is gone yet we keep a large number of troops in Germany today. That was 63 plus years ago. Why don’t you call for their removal first?
Yes we can bring our troops home safely once they finish kicking terrorist butt. Part of the problem is that Democrats such as Murtha do everything possible to hamper those troops from doing their job. If you want the troops to come home safely support the surge so we can finish kicking butt!
As for KSTP showing a Franken tape are you saying that they should show a tape of Amy K, Russ Feingold, or somebody else not running in this year’s Senate.
Boy what a weak defense for Franken you just tried to do.

Walter;
Bush knew that saddam was a few pieces of ‘yellow cake” ( wilson report) and a few tubes short of bomb, so he lied to the American people when he told us to beware of the smoking gun in the form of a mushroom cloud.
And yes, saddam did have chemical weapons that he used on his citizens, they were given to him by the Reagan administration during the ’80s’, but there was not enough left to be a threat to anyone in 2003.
Nice spin on the McCain quote, but we both know that is not what he was talking about.
Do tell, what has Decorated War Hero John Murtha done to hamper the troops.
The tape and the poll were used to kick off Norm (Bush Republican) Coleman’s campaign and Stanley gave him free coverage. KSTP = NormTV
Nobody likes taxes, but they do like better roads and bridges and this summer they will see their tax dollars at work on those improvements and then this fall Minnesotans will vote to continue the DFL Agenda
That’ll do Sheeple, that’ll do
PS
When I look in the mirror for the person who keeps wanting to lie about Iraq, I see Bush
March 20th, 2008 at 12:19 AM
HCDFL:
If you’re counting on Wilson that’s part of your problem. The Senate Intelligence Committee basically said that Wilson lied. And can you imagine if you went on a mission and not have to turn in a report? Back to how Mr. Wilson was given the job which was his wife. He has no credibility.
In 2003 the French and Germans were opposing us and they believed the samething that Bush believed.
As for the rest of your fiction writing Reagan didn’t give Saddam his weapons. Bush didn’t lie. Lets remember there were Democrat Senators who carefully researched and in case of the junior Senator for New York independently verified the threat and talked about it.
The only people who have been lying for the last five years is people like. So walk in front of that mirror. The liar is you! Not George Bush!
So put down the lies by Joe Wilson and Mrs. Sheridan and learn about the truth. Oh I forgot that might explain those other positions which are based on silly dreams of fantasy land and not reality.

Walter;
For this post, and all your other “everybody but Bush lied” posts I nominate you for head of the herd.
That’ll do Sheeple that’ll do
PS
In 1982 Reagan took Iraq off of the list of countries who support terrorism and supplied saddam with the means necessary to gas 5000 innocent Kurds.
This is called factual history, the same factual history that will label GW Bush as the worst President Ever.
March 22nd, 2008 at 4:56 PM
HCDFL:
Huh! The entire world (this include France and Germany countries that were opposing us) believed that Saddam Hussein had the weapons. Furthermore if you read Richard Clarke’s book (a person who opposed a lot of President Bush 43′s policies) he devoted part of the book to show close that Iraq was to having an atomic bomb and they were forced to give the materials they found back. You were in a situation unless you don’t believe Richard Clarke and the inspectors who reported this in the early 1990′s that Iraq was very close to be able to make an atomic bomb. Which means that if Iraq was even making inquires to get atomic material (something that Wilson admits did happen) the logical not to mention safe conclusion is that Iraq is trying to build an atomic bomb again.
Keep in mind one of the arguments used by people who believe in global warming is that we can’t afford to be wrong therefore we have to act. President Bush in terms of national security had very credible evidence that supported the mission.
Not to mention one other key point. Iraq was a threat. Years ago in Chicago the mob was a threat. Elliot Ness the FBI agent who was trying to get Al Calpone into jail used tax evassion not the other things to finally get Capone into jail. One of the faults of the Bush strategy was they did the correct thing, but were forced to use the tax evassion argument to achieve it since that was what got the job done.
By the way the Russians supplied Iraq with most of their weapons and were believed to be supplying them with their key parts for weapons of mass destruction not Ronald Reagan.
