RUMOR MILL: TINGELSTAD TO NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION

By Michael Brodkorb | March 21, 2008

Rumors are flying around in Andover that Representative Kathy Tingelstad, one of the "Override Six", will not seek re-election.  A call placed to Representative Tinglestad last evening seeking comment was not returned.

Please check back to Minnesota Democrats Exposed for more information on this developing story.

The GOP didn’t really want that seat, anyway….

  2. JS Says:
    March 21st, 2008 at 6:50 PM

Actually, we really didn’t need that RINO anyway…

She’s lived off of government so long, what will she do now? Probably get a job lobbying for some transportation group that lives off of government. Once an eater from the trough always a eater from the trough.

  3. anokacountyred Says:

Very ineffective legislator, can’t think of any meaningful legislation she sponsored.

Pretty old news. I heard it Monday

  6. Tim M Says:

She will probably get some cushy well paying county position.

Like Mongo (Alex Karras) said in Blazing Saddles, ” Has something to do with where choo-choo go.” It will be interesting to find out who Anoka County’s Hedley Lamar is.

  7. dumbster Says:
    March 22nd, 2008 at 9:48 AM

Perhaps we need to up an IQ test out there before people can blog. Tinglestad agrees with the readers of this blog 90% of the time. Focusing on the 10% you disagree with her is not smart policy or politics.

  8. Chet Says:
    March 22nd, 2008 at 10:23 AM

…except when the “10%” means breaking one of the Big Republican Commandments: Thou Shall Not Raise Taxes. That’s a biggie.

Worse, it’s breaking that commandment and collaborating with the enemy to get it done – while embarrassing your own Governor.

No sir, that’s not smart politics on her part. The delegates in her district have a responsibility to endorse candidates who belief as the party does, that’s what an endorsement is.

  9. slystalone Says:
    March 22nd, 2008 at 2:11 PM

If you believe “thou shalt not raise taxes” is a commandment of the Republican party, then you better boot out Ronald Reagan. He raised the gas tax too.

Oh, and if you are upset about overriding the veto of a Republican executive, you better fire Kline and Bachmann also. Because both of them overrode President Bush’s veto before.

  10. Chris Says:
    March 22nd, 2008 at 3:11 PM

    Tim M,

I love the Blazing Saddles lines. Probably one of the top 10 movies ever made. I was pissed off awhile back when I saw Blazing Saddles on the AMC network. They censored every single offensive line in the movie. It ruined the movie entirely!

    Slystalone,

The problem with your comment is that it wasn’t just a simple gas tax increase. The bill Tinglestad and others voted to override included license plate tab increases, wheelage taxes, and an automatic sales tax increase. The bill constitued the largest tax increase in state history. Not only that, the funds go for too much transit and not enough roads and bridges. It was not a Republican bill.

  11. doctor dre Says:
    March 22nd, 2008 at 4:59 PM

    Dumbster,

If it was 90% of the time, she wouldn’t be in this situation. The 49B delegates I talk to say this was more like the straw that broke the camel’s back, not a first offense.

Last year, for example, she had a 27% score from the Taxpayer’s League, lowest of all GOP legislators.

  12. flyguywhy Says:
    March 22nd, 2008 at 5:05 PM

Just want to make sure the previous post said that “Big Republican Commandments: Thou Shall Not Raise Taxes.”

But Reagan raised taxes. So is it a commandment to not raise taxes or not? If it is, then Reagan should have been booted. If it isn’t, then this isn’t a big deal.

Keep beating Tinglestad up. We need her override vote on the bonding bill.

  13. Pete Says:
    March 22nd, 2008 at 5:13 PM

Hey guys, I know you don’t follow current events by President Reagan died a while back. You remember, millions and millions of people mourned his passing? The liberal media couldn’t figure out why all these people care; you remember that don’t you? I have his picture here over my desk – it helps me remember what a real leader is like. If you boys didn’t have you heads up your ass you might learn something by studying the great things this man did.

  14. el presidente Says:
    March 22nd, 2008 at 5:57 PM

Former President Reagan’s [made-for-television] funeral, etc. was longer than that of the funeral of sitting President John F. Kennedy.

If Pete would also be a student of modern history perhaps he wouldn’t write such silly statements.

  15. Pete Says:
    March 22nd, 2008 at 7:45 PM

Maybe that’s because President Reagan actually accomplished something that made a positive difference in the world during his administration unlike Kennedy whose greatest accomplishment was dying in office. People recognized that and wanted to honor the man. I know that really pissed the Democrats are but geez, damn your stupid…

  16. Tim M Says:
    March 22nd, 2008 at 7:50 PM

All of us need to work together get rid of these RINOs.

For Chris: “But we don’t want the Irish!”

  17. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    March 22nd, 2008 at 10:47 PM

Pete, you got a picture o’ Shredder Jockey Ollie on your desk?

  18. Chris Says:
    March 22nd, 2008 at 11:26 PM

    For Tim (discussing the RINOs):

“The fact that you have sent him here, just goes to prove, that you are the leading asshole in the state!”

  19. Pete Says:
    March 22nd, 2008 at 11:47 PM

Puddles, you have no honor. I guess we all knew that but I just thought it was time to repeat it.

  20. Frank Alan Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 12:03 AM

I bet folks who fondly remember the later years of Reagan really love Bush Jr. One was suffering from dementia and the other was just plain mentally demented.

And to say that Tinglestad broke some code by raising taxes while holding VP Pawlenty harmless for his direct tax increases on tobacco and for the Twins as well as indirect taxes with his increases on just about every fee available to be raised, well, it just shows the hypocrisies of your ever-changing positions.

  21. Right is RIGHT Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 12:16 AM

I believe the Twins stadium deal was a bipartisan tax jack. While I disagree with the fee increases under TPaw, comparing them to a 7 billion dollar transportation tax increase is laughable at best.

To my liberal troll friends, are you really calling Reagan a President who increased taxes? What color is the sky in your world. Just curious…

flyguywhy, can you defend the $hitty bonding bill that is going to be vetoed? Do you actually think that us commenting on a blog is going to make Tinglestad override that pile of brown stuff?

  22. Tim M Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 7:30 AM

To Chris, how about this in regards to Tingelstad and her voting for the tax increases:

“The little bastard shot me in the ass.”

  23. Richard Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 8:26 AM

Reagan should’ve died in the same jail cell, Nixon should’ve died in.

  24. Frank Alan Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 9:38 AM

So, when bipartisanship prevails, the “no-tax” governor loses his right to veto?

There are so many little things about government that I just don’t understand. I thought the governor had the right to veto ANY bill, but apparently he can only veto the ones that get no bipartisan support.

And on May 26, 2006, when he signed the Twins Tax Grab bill at the Metrodome prior to a Twins game with Harmon Killabrew, Tony Oliva and Jack Morris standing behind him, I imagine that was a piece of arcane Minnesota session law that requires bill signings to be done in such a manner when bipartisan support exists.

I just wonder who the law says has to stand behind him when he signs a bill dealing with sex offenders?

  25. Pete Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 10:55 AM

Frank Alan – I believe that could be you… and possibly puddles since it seems he has been watching someones kid as they come and go from school.

  26. Pete Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 10:59 AM

You liberals sure hate it when someone is successfull and does wonderful things for the country. President Reagan pulled this country together. Democats were shown for what they truely were, the slave masters for minorites and the poor. Reagan policies allowed people to become less dependent on goverment – something that really pissed the liberals off. Come on, be men and admit you are wrong boys!

  27. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 11:50 AM

Pete, someone has to protect them kids from republiCons.

Say, I wonder what noted republiCon Mark “What’s Your IM Name, Little Page?” Foley is up to these days?

  28. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 11:56 AM

    Pete, you got typos.

Fortunately for you, I’m here to help!!!

You republiCons sure hate it when someone has to pay their fair share, let alone sacrifice for the country. President Reagan’s misAdministration had more people convicted while employed by the feds than the rest of the presidents, put together. republiCons were shown for what they truely were: liars crooks and thieves that stole from the poor and gave to the rich. Anybody remember “Ketchup is a “vegetable!”??!?. Reagan policies allowed the S&L scandal, with the subsequent bail-out through goverment, inanced by the average American Taxpayer – omething that tax-cheating republiCons really loved. Come on, be men and admit you are wrong boys! Don’t pull a “Shredder Jockey Ollie, and lie – especially under oath!!!

  29. Chris Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 1:26 PM

    TwoPuttTommy,

As long as we’re rewriting history, then let’s say that Bill Clinton’s misAdministration allowed the Enron and Global Crossing scandals that helped tank the stock market and hid under his desk (or was that Monica under his desk) while al Qaeda attacked and plotted attacks against our country.

  30. Chris Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 1:29 PM

To Tim, if you listen to these liberals whine and complain about our state, I am reminded of one of the church choir singing, “There’s no avoiding this conclusion, our town is turning into shit.”

  31. Chris Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 1:36 PM

Also to Tim, regarding Tinglestad and the rest of the legislature who voted to raise taxes and spend another billion on light rail:

“Le Petomane Thruway, now what’ll that asshole think of next?! Is anybody got a dime??? Somebody’s gotta go back and get a shit load of dimes!!!”

  32. Pete Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 1:57 PM

puddles, I see you resorted to your usual ploy when your boys arguements don’t hold water. LOL! I bet you hate it when people here don’t fall for you bull shit like they do on the liberal sites. You and HCDFL really need to get back to your sheep now… you can let Frank take care of the children…

  33. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 2:51 PM

Pete, as usual, you miss the point.

Let me rePETE it, just for you: “rhetoric works both ways.”

What you fail to realize, is that you are a prime example of why the republiCon tent keeps getting smaller and smaller and smaller:

people realize the republiCon bullshit, er, ‘scuse me, “rhetoric” you spew as typical of the republiCon party.

The only reason I post the “correcting typos” posts I do, is to point out the absurdity of today’s contemporary republiCon thought.

  34. Chris Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 3:09 PM

I see your logic TPT. It’s kind of like how Obama said for over a year that he never heard his pastor say anything racially charged or anti-American from the pulpit before and then said a week later that he did, in fact, hear pretty controversial things in the pews.

    http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=4480868&page=1

So controversial that Obama dis-invited Rev. Wright when he made his announcement speech in Springfield, Illinois because he could “get pretty rough in his sermons.

  35. Pete Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 3:54 PM

Puddles, Like I said, nothing but bull shit from you cause we all know your lies. I’ll check back later to see if you have anything intellegent to say – I crack myself up…

  36. el presidente Says:

Ending sentences with a prepositions is an American trait.

  37. Swiftee Says:

    Wow.

    And here we are….in America.

    Coincidence? This man thinks not!

  38. Pete Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 9:15 PM

I’m thinking puddles has created a few user id’s here just so he could have someone to agree with now and then.

  39. Tim M Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 11:32 PM

To Chris: I think Ms Tingelstad realized “The time is now act and act fast…I’m leaving.”

TPT, I was a Democrat until I served a tour at the Pentagon. Then I realized most Democrats in the House and Senate had the attitude, “Baby, I am so talented, and they are so dumb.”

As for Bill Clinton all I can say is, “The affairs of state take precedent over the affairs of state.”

  40. Chris Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 11:41 PM

To Tim: Goll darn it, Mr. Lamarr, you use your tongue prettier than a $20 whore.”

    “Harumph, harumph, harumph…”

  41. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    March 24th, 2008 at 7:42 AM

Tim, I was a Republican until the fundamentalists hijacked the party in the mid 90′s. Once the party of smaller government became “God’s Chosen Party”, I left.

Actually, I was encouraged to leave; the Chosen Few didn’t think God’s Chosen Party should have members that thought their wife and daughters knew what was best for themselves.

These days, GOP stands for GreedOverPrinciples, as the self-righteous rightists here so regularly demonstrate.

  42. Troy Says:
    March 24th, 2008 at 10:42 AM

Please tell us more of your insights on the GOP, TwoPuttTommy, if you think they are valuable.

I do wonder why you were ever in the Republican party? I suspect you weren’t all that dedicated to smaller government if a few godbots scared you away. ;-)

  43. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    March 24th, 2008 at 2:03 PM

Well, the hypocrisy was a clincher, too.

I worked in housing, when Uncle Ronnie was Prez and Jack Kemp ran HUD. Back then, there actually were reasonable Republicans that understood people needed safe and decent housing, to use as a stepping stone to home ownership.

And Kemp understood that the only reason reasonable business people would provide that necessity, was if there was an honest buck to be made doing so.

And the providers of subsidized housing (“section 8″) were, by and large, Republican investors that spent the vast majority of the subsidies they received in their local economies, often at companies with national scope.

For instance, they utilized the services of local painters, but often bought paint from Sherwin-Williams.

But, back then was the beginning of right-wing hate radio, led by El Druggo himself, Rush Limpstick.

And to hear those ranting lunatics, one would think all the section 8 money went into the pockets of the tenants, to buy dope and booze and gas for their cadillacs.

Nothing, of course, could be further from the truth, but the neo-cons don’t believe in letting truth get in the way of a good rant.

The point is, it was republicans makin’ dough off of Section 8 funding, while their rank and file were the targets of wedge electioneering.

  44. doctor dre Says:
    March 24th, 2008 at 2:52 PM

Tingelstad is indeed out. http://www.anokacountyunion.com. Now back to your regularly scheduled off-topic ranting about crap that happened outside Minnesota decades ago.

  45. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    March 24th, 2008 at 3:08 PM

OK, let’s look at who is going to be sitting in Tengelstad’s seat:

Jerry Newton is a retired US Army Sergeant Major, with 23 years of active service. Since 1994 he has been on either the Coon Rapids City Council or the Anoka Hennepin School Board, where he is currently serving. I am a member of the VVA, VFW, Legion and the Anoka County Veterans’ Council.

And I wonder which rightwingnut will disparage his service to country first?

[...] As first reported on Minnesota Democrats Exposed, Representative Kathy Tingelstad will not seek re-elected.  Tinglestad was one of the "Override Six", a name coined on Minnesota Democrats Exposed to refer to the six Republican legislators who voted to override Governor Pawlenty's veto of the DFL transit plan. 47. Tim M Says:

TPT- You and I had this discussion before about true conservatives are being left out in the Republican party. And I believe we share the belief that certain people (Hannity, Medved, Krauthammer,Robertson, the late Jerry Falwell) harm true conservatism. But they definitely are not in the DFL. I think we agree that too many politician use the power of government to:

    a) make themselves rich. (Like Hedley Lamarr)
    b) impose their views on the rest of us.
    c) keep themselves in power for waaay too long.

Sounds like this SGM might be a good candidate. However, if Marine Gunny or Navy Chief ran against him,you know where my loyalties lie…..

  48. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    March 24th, 2008 at 4:22 PM

I agree with three out of three on the A-B-C.

    As for the last part?

These days, if a retired Gunny or a Chief were running, (s)he’d probably be running on the DFL ticket, too!!!

  49. Tim M Says:
    March 24th, 2008 at 4:25 PM

    To Chris:

“Oh its twue, its twue!” ” Oh its twue.”

As for Elliot Spitzer, the following applies:

“Is that a ten gallon hat or are you just enjoying the show?”

    or “I like rape.”
