RUMOR MILL: TINGELSTAD TO NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION #2

By Michael B. Brodkorb | March 24, 2008

As first reported on Minnesota Democrats Exposed, Representative Kathy Tingelstad will not seek re-election.  Tinglestad was one of the "Override Six", a phrase coined on Minnesota Democrats Exposed to refer to the six Republican legislators who voted to override Governor Pawlenty's veto of the DFL transit plan.

    Another pick-up for the DFL.

Here’s the quick bio on the guy that’ll put that seat in the blue column:

Jerry Newton is a retired US Army Sergeant Major, with 23 years of active service. Since 1994, Jerry Newton has been on either the Coon Rapids City Council or the Anoka Hennepin School Board, where he is currently serving. Sergeant Major (Ret.) Newton is a member of the VVA, VFW, American Legion, and the Anoka County Veterans’ Council.

    Two Putt,

Is this the same Jerry Newton who has run on multiple occasions for the legislature, all without success? If it’s the same guy, I always hear about what a stud candidate he is and then he loses. Didn’t he just lose the SD 49 race to Debbie Johnson in 2006, the senator with the worst attendance record?

  3. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    March 24th, 2008 at 4:37 PM

As I understand it, he carried the B side of the SD by around 1,200 votes, but lost the race in the Andover/Ham Lake side, which is (was?) much more conservative.

Who are the GOPers going to toss up? Sean Novack?

What happened in his last race?

  4. walter Hanson Says:
    March 24th, 2008 at 5:02 PM

    Hey Eight Putt:

A lot more Republicans will show up this time so just quoting 1,200 is dream thinking. Republicans easily defend the seat with a Real Republican running.

I liked Kathy but when she voted for a massive tax increase, something so clearly one of the Big Sins of the party, she was doomed.

  6. flyguywhy Says:
    March 24th, 2008 at 5:55 PM

I’m a Republican, but I have to admit…we are in big trouble in this race now that Tinglestad is out.

  7. flyguywhy Says:
    March 24th, 2008 at 5:59 PM

To all those shitheads that are cheering Tinglestad out, take a look at the numbers this Democrat had against an incumbent in the last election. I look forward to you guys blaming someone else for your nuthead candidates failure in November.

    Republican
    DEBBIE JOHNSON
6453 votes 44.18% of the vote

    Democratic-Farmer-Labor
    JERRY NEWTON
8139 votes 55.72% of the vote

  8. doctor dre Says:
    March 24th, 2008 at 6:12 PM

Who won this district in the last presidential election?

Who won at the congressional level in 2006?

Who carried it for governor in 2006?

  9. el presidente Says:

    Hot Half-Dozen strike again.

  10. el presidente Says:
    March 24th, 2008 at 10:02 PM

Perhaps PAW CLAWS & the GOP will have a HEXagon for a symbol.

  11. Cletus Cline Says:
    March 24th, 2008 at 10:44 PM

Good going dipshits, you kicked another common sense Republican to the curb.

    Small tents = smaller parties

  12. Sakaki Says:
    March 25th, 2008 at 12:51 AM

Seems like the same person is using multiple accounts to post the message.

Frankly, it’s better that Tinklestud is out. With the way the DFL is screwing everything up, the GOP will be able to retain this seat and take more seats.

The GOP is in much better shape without Dingleberry running.

    TPT—

Not to knock SGM Newton. But I would not vote for(or against) anyone just because they are a vet, a Republican or a Democrat. I look at their positions on the issues and their track record.

I believe in limited government and want nothing from them nor do I believe they owe me anything. I never even see my retirement check–it all goes to charity. I never accepted one dime for my college education nor will my children. Nor do I expect the government to be in charge of my health care.

I do not live in Anoka county anymore, so I do not have a dog in this fight. But on a statewide focus, I support anyone that wants to spend money responsibly and not constantly digging into our pockets.

  15. TwoPuttTommy Says:

Apparently, the folk in 49-B look at the person, too.

    Check out the numbers, above.

Now, consider that the GOP is gonna toss up a bona-fide bootlicker; someone that toes the party line – PERIOD.

How well do ya think that’s gonna play, in 49-B?

  16. flyguywhy Says:
    March 25th, 2008 at 9:02 AM

A previous person actually made the argument that losing the seat was good for Republicans because then the Democrats would be in charge.

In case someone has been sleeping for 18 months – the Democrats are ALREADY in charge.

I realize there are dumb people in the blogospshere, but Republians advocating for Republicans to lose elections has got to be one of the more stupid comments I’ve heard.

  17. Tim M Says:
    March 25th, 2008 at 10:02 AM

What good is a Republican when they vote to raise taxes, support global warming and appoint leftist judges? That is a Democrat.

The two Republican Presidents that catered to Democrats the most, (Nixon & Bush 43) are the ones they hate the most. Both were mediocre.

It is real simple—STOP SPENDING MONEY LIKE DRUNKEN SAILORS !!!!!

Bwahaha! From the fingertips of a scumbag who lies about his own military record.

“Here’s the quick bio on the guy that’ll put that seat in the blue column..”

Someone better alert Newton that 2punk is out here playing with his credentials. If he does happen to have an honorable record (never a given with a Democrat) 2punk’s fingerprints will soil it.

  20. Swiftee Says:
    March 25th, 2008 at 11:00 AM

Hey 2punk..tell us again about how you and John Kerry spent Christmas in Cambodia on a top secret mission!

    Hahahaaaa

  21. Swiftee Says:
    March 25th, 2008 at 11:08 AM

Wasn’t Jessie MacBeth out there with you and Kerry, 2punk? Hahahaaa

It occurs to me that if all of the Democrats out there lying about their supposed military credentials got together they could form their own BS Brigade! Yeah, sure and you guys could all visit MacBeth’s tailor and get ya some really spiffy uniforms with lots of braid and bling! AHahahahahaaa

You stinkin’ Democrats kill me! Ahahaa

  24. Sean Novack Says:
    August 19th, 2008 at 11:16 AM

    Hello Tommy.

I’m not sure who you are, because you are hiding behind a pseudonym, but this is what happened in my last race: Labor-endorsed incumbent Bruce Sanders 1917 votes, Republican-endorsed first-time candidate Sean Novack 1241 votes.
With no name recognition, no help with the campaign, only $100 from the republican party, and in the worst election year for the Republican party in the history of the country, we took 40% of the vote away from a popular incumbent in a labor-heavy area. Call it what you will, the numbers are the numbers. If the National Republican party hadn’t shot itself in it’s collective foot (or perhaps a bit higher and more centerline would be more accurate) then the numbers say we should have walked away with that seat with the voters that stayed away.
Feel free to contact me if you want to talk about this in person. My information is all over the net (there is a list of us firearms instructors on the AACFI website at http://www.aacfi.com/trainers/#MN for example) or by all means, feel free to check out the memorial scholarship for community service I have started to honor my parents at the link above. My information is there too. We take donations from liberals too, and we’re a 501(c)3 charity so it’s tax-deductible.
One thing: I don’t talk to anonymous lurkers or flamethrowers. If you have the courage of your convictions we can discuss the issues, but I don’t waste my time on children that have nothing better to do than take hidden shots from their parent’s basements.
