MINNESOTA MONITOR SHOCK ATTACK ON SENATOR MCCAIN: LIBERAL BLOG MOCKS MCCAIN OVER HIS DENTAL WORK IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT MCCAIN HAD MANY OF HIS TEETH BROKEN WHILE BEING TORTURED AS P.O.W.

    By Michael B. Brodkorb | March 25, 2008

Minnesota Monitor has a post up mocking Senator McCain's teeth.

In fact, McCain's teeth were broken at the gum while being tortured as a P.O.W:
"In 1968 he was offered early release, and when he refused, because others had been there longer, his captors went at him again; he suffered cracked ribs, teeth broken off at the gum line, and torture with ropes that lashed his arms behind his back and that were progressively tightened all through the night." Source Vanity Fair, February 2007
    and
"He spent two years in solitary confinement, suffered from dysentery and even tried to commit suicide by hanging himself with his own shirt.

In 1968, the Vietnamese broke off many of his teeth at the gum and tortured him for hours on end. They offered him early release, knowing his value as an admirals son, but he refused, saying others had been held captive longer." Source  Daily Mail February 1, 2008
This is a really disgusting attack on Senator McCain and Minnesota Monitor should be embarrassed. I left a comment on Minnesota Monitor asking if the author of this post, Molly Priesmeyer, was aware that McCain's teeth were broken when he was a P.O.W.

    She hasn't responded.

      Michael,

You should consider removing MiniMoni from your blogroll. That place has become a sewer.

Replace them with MinnPost.com, as most lefty readers are over there now.

Since many on the left seem unfamiliar with Sen. McCain’s personal sacrifice on behalf of this country, I encourage all to read the first-hand account of his captivity, published by U.S. News and World Report in 1973:

The ol’ Twoputter is none-too-amused, either.

“This is really disgusting attack on Senator McCain and Minnesota Monitor should be embarrassed.

      Michael, you are correct.

For those that have no idea what Senator John McCain went through, here’s an idea:

      ***
      CAMPAIGN 2008

      What These Eyes Have Seen

He’s endured the unendurable, and survived. Inside the mind and heart of John McCain.

During the 2000 election, Republican smear artists trying to stop the presidential campaign of John McCain spread rumors that the former POW was “nuts” because he had been “in the cage too long”—in the Hanoi Hilton for five and a half years. The campaign decided to make public Captain (now Senator) McCain’s medical records, which showed that he had an enlarged prostate and trouble lifting his arms (repeatedly broken in captivity), but had been judged perfectly sane by a series of Navy psychiatrists who had tested him for years after his release from prison.

The details of those medical evaluations make you wonder why McCain is not stark raving mad today. Tortured repeatedly to extract a confession, McCain “tried to hang himself X2 to avoid giving in,” reads the report of a psychiatrist at Jacksonville Naval Hospital in Florida who had interviewed McCain in 1973. “Broke three teeth as a result of rocks in diet,” records another. Last week, as I read to McCain from these long-ago documents, he chimed in, “And also a fist in the face a couple of times.” McCain was relaxing in a luxurious suite at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles, having just received the endorsement of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (the two made an odd couple—the tanned, coifed, buff movie warrior and the pale, wispy-haired real one). His years in captivity were “terrible,” McCain said, but, his voice gaining emphasis and urgency, he went on: “In some ways, it was the most magnificent time, because of the courage and bravery of those I had the privilege of serving with.” He seemed to hear himself and quickly added: “Veterans really hate war. I hope there’s no glorification of war in anything I’ve written or said.”
      ***

      More, here:

      http://www.newsweek.com/id/107581

People may disagree with Senator McCain’s politics, but what is beyond question is John McCain’s patriotism.

That MinnMon thread is WAY out of bounds, and Michael is correct – it’s a disgusting attack and MinnMon should be ashamed.

You will not find a harder hard-core Democrat than I am, but I completely agree with you on this one. I absolutely do not want John McCain to be president because I have no desire to be in Iraq another 100 years, or to be bombing Iran at all for that matter. This is a major policy disagreement I have with McCain.

But it is trivial and demeaning to talk about someone’s teeth when discussing such an important job as president and commander in chief. And it is beyond all bounds of decency to make fun of injuries received under torture or imprisonment in the service of one’s country.

This is the cult of the celebrity gone amuck. We don’t need tall presidents. We don’t need pretty presidents. We need good leaders.

As much as I disagree with John McCain on any number of issues, I absolutely trust his judgment on the question of torture. Unlike most Democrats or Republicans, he has been there and he knows what the issues are. This article is entirely off-base.

MinnMon’s post is a disgusting and needless display of ignorance and cruelty. It’s another example of the inability of many Democrats to participate civilly in the electoral process. The primary campaign between candidates who say they want to go beyond partisan politics is a mud-slinging fiasco. Then there is the the fact that one of the candidates, the truly sanctimonious one, is excluding millions of voters.
But, minnmon can think of nothing better than to make fun of McCain’s teeth.

Looking back, Mc Cain should have the nominee in 2000. I can safely say he probably would not have entered Iraq and I KNOW Rumsfeld NEVER would have been made SECDEF.

But its 2008, I have 10 years of living in Arizona with a very close perspective of Senator Lettuce. I could never vote him–he is vindictive, not trustworthy and generally wrong on most issues–especially illegal immigration.

He keeps winning (and getting a pass) because he runs against weak opponents. If his Senate seat was up in this election, he would not even win the Republican primary.

I will keep saying this over and over– this is the best three people we can do for President?

[...] Earlier today a writer at Minnesota Monitor wrote a piece about John McCain’s teeth. While tied into a compelling point– that criticism of Hillary Clinton’s appearance is “lame” the author failed to think about why McCain’s teeth would resemble “yellowed and contorted chiclets“. The answer as pointed out by MDE and others, is that McCain got to spend five and a half years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam– between the rocks in the food, the physical torture, and what I can only venture to guess was a general disinterest in McCain’s oral hygiene by the Viet Cong– his teeth came out in much worse shape than how they went in. Tim, if Team Bush hadn’t trashed McCain during the Y2K primary season, especially in South Carolina, McCain probably would have been president.

Personally, I find it ironic that while the bootlickers here correctly rip Molly at MinMon, they ignore what Boy Blunder And The Plunderers did to McCain, 8 years ago.

Which, of course, is one reason why I mock today’s republiCons: they are consistently inconsistent.

Do yourself a favor war hero; take your BS service record, your BS “service connected” disability and take a hike.

Why not give your pals John Kerry and Jesse MacBeth a call and have a medal shining party.

    23. ManGenius Says:

I agree with Tim. I haven’t been impressed with any leadership by any party at any level for over a decade. Bush can’t communicate and is just starting to wise up a little. The only way to make him look smart is to compare him to Reed and Pelosi. The next crop of candidates are even worse. Why do we get the worst for leaders? Because half wits talk about McCain’s teeth or Hillary’s looks or just how black is Obama really?

I’m sure that people here from both sides will agree that it has gotten to be a rare, very rare occurrence when you can find someone who can spar politically that actually has facts, logic and basic understanding of politics and the candidate positions. And that pool seems to shrink every day.

McCain’s teeth. War, economy, foreclosures, energy, Social Security bankruptcy, runaway government growth, Iran, boarders…no, talk about McCain’s teeth. God help us all.

“Dirty” Harry Reid, Trent “Does not know a” Lott, Nancy “Piglosi” Elliot Spitzer or is it Swallows, Senator Lettuce, — this is the best we can do? If Hillary were so smart, she should have ran for the Senate seat from Illinois that Obama now holds.

Meanwhile a real leader like General Colin Powell and a true straight talker like Zell Miller sit on the sidelines.
