BLOGGING AT COLEMAN’S CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCEMENT IN ST. PAUL

By Michael B. Brodkorb | March 26, 2008

I am at U.S. Senator Norm Coleman's campaign announcement in St. Paul.  I'll be posting extensively today on Minnesota Democrats Exposed and Blogs for Norm, so please check both sites for updates.

UPDATE: The event is over and Senator Coleman is now meeting with reporters, a clear contrast from Al Franken leaving his event without answering questions from reporters.

Click here to watch video of Team Franken blocking the reporters from following Franken through the door to ask him questions.

From what I hear, Coleman’s event started half an hour late, and he took only a few questions afterwards. Surely the media in attendance was ticked off by Coleman’s tardiness and limited Q&A — do you think this will have any impact on the success of his campaign kickoff?

You are correct, ol’ Smokescreen was a half-hour late – 10:04 to be exact.

I can’t verify if questions were asked and answered or not; it was mighty hot in that room and after all the NormSpeak I suffered through, I needed some fresh air.

It’s kind of ironic, this mad-dash ol’ Smokescreen is takin’ from Boy Blunder’s side – because ol’ Smokescreen stated, and I wrote this down:

    “We need uniters, not dividers.”

Folks, the NormSpeak was incredible – for a while there, I thought Scotty beamed me back and ol’ Smokescreen was still a democrat.

His speech won’t play well, to the base….

Wow, it was nice of the lingerie model to return to Minnesota for the photo op.

I’m sure she and Norm enjoyed catching up with each other.

[...] Local center-right bloggers were muted in their coverage: I wasn’t especially worried about missing the event, since I figured that other bloggers would be there and would write about the event in detail. The ever-reliable Michael Brodkorb was there of course and there’s substantial coverage of the event over at MDE, as you’d suspect. But as yesterday spread into today, I started to notice something. Many of the other prominent center-right voices in the Minnesota blogosphere hadn’t written anything about the event, either. Nothing from Powerline. Mitch Berg was otherwise occupied. AAA hadn’t weighed in. No barking from the Freedom Dogs. Not a peep at Anti-Strib. Bupkis at TvM. And most notably, nothing at True North. [...]

I saw some of Franken’s and Coleman’s speeches at the Capitol, on TPT’s Almanac last night.

They may still be seen on rebroadcasts.
