MDE EXCLUSIVE: NEW DEVELOPMENT IN WORKERS’ COMP CASE RAISES DOUBTS ABOUT FRANKEN’S HONESTY
By Michael B. Brodkorb | April 2, 2008

When the news broke that Al Franken’s corporation had been fined $25,000 by the State of New York for failure to provide workers’ compensation insurance for his corporation’s employees, Team Franken told the Star Tribune that the Frankens had moved to Minnesota and they didn’t know that State of New York was trying to reach them:
“Campaign spokesman Andy Barr said that neither Franken nor his wife, Franni, were aware of the matter before Tuesday. They have lived in Minneapolis for the past few years and did not know about the state’s attempts to reach them in New York City, he said.” Source: Star Tribune, March 4, 2008

Team Franken was clearly trying to present the false image that the Frankens had relocated their entire home and life to Minnesota. They weren’t living in New York, therefore they had no idea the State of New York was attempting to reach them. The reality of the situation is completely different.
I have already established that Franken was voting in New York elections while the State of New York was sending notices that he needed to provide workers’ compensation insurance for his corporation’s employees.
Upon examining public records from the Federal Elections Commission, I discovered that a Franken family member made two contributions to Franken’s campaign in 2007. The dates of the contributions were March 14, 2007 and September 30, 2007. The address listed for the contributor is the same address where the State of New York sent a certified letter notifying Franken about issues related to his failure to provide workers’ compensation insurance for his corporation’s employees. The letter was signed by a “J. Gauthier” on July 14, 2007.
This new discovery shows that a Franken family member was living at the same address were the State of New York sent a certified letter notifying Franken about issues related to his failure to provide workers’ compensation insurance for his corporation’s employees. It is no longer plausible that the Franken’s were unaware of the numerous attempts by the State of New York to contact them.
Did Team Franken dupe the Minnesota media?
I contacted Mark Drake, communications director for the Republican Party of Minnesota, about the new information. Drake said he was “stunned and disturbed” and that he expected the Republican Party of Minnesota to weigh in on this issue later today.
Please check back to Minnesota Democrats Exposed for more information on this developing story.

Taegan Goddard’s Political Wire.com did some limited speculation about former MN Governor, Jesse Ventura, (Independence Party) taking a run at the USA Senate seat.
April 2nd, 2008 at 3:09 PM
This is all ya got?
But, I gotta tell ya, that this one is funny…
“I contacted Mark Drake, communications director for the Republican Party of Minnesota, …”
What – ya yelled out “Hey, Mark! C’mere an’ read this!!!”
April 2nd, 2008 at 3:13 PM
Smoking gun? Video of Angry Al turning away the mail carrier with the New York letter? Is that all ya got?
Gotta love liberals for consistency. They’re consistency without conscience when it comes to their guys. OneNuttTommy could be shown a video of Angry Al gunning down a kindergarten class and he’d say “but ol’ Smokescreen, he voted like W. “X” many times…”

TPT: Are you claiming that Franken’s problems paying workers’ comp in now not an issue to you? Talk about a flip-flop.
April 2nd, 2008 at 3:20 PM
That’s Al’s son.
Pretty good sized donation for a unemployed private chef living in his parent’s apartment.
April 2nd, 2008 at 3:24 PM
It is actually Franken’s daughter, but she’s not the issue. This is a post about Franken’s honesty and not his family. Please keep your comments focused on the honesty issue and not family members.
April 2nd, 2008 at 3:25 PM
Oops sorry,
Thomasin is his daughter.
April 2nd, 2008 at 3:27 PM
Thanks Master of None. I am very sensitive about even mentioning the family connection, but I couldn’t do the post with mentioning the contributions.
Thank you for the follow-up.

Michael — this is more reason why you are the top blogger in this state.
Stay vigilant and keep exposing these Democrats.
April 2nd, 2008 at 3:35 PM
Michael, of COURSE it’s an issue. What I’m saying, is you’re not makin’ much of a case, here.
The “Franken Family Member” you are referencing, is an adult and even if served a notice directly from the state, a strong case could be made no service was rendered.
You’ve still got a long ways to go, Michael – but, I’ve no doubt you’ll get a whole bunch more posts out of this subject.
Now, you wait an’ watch – the usual subjects will show up and claim “service, schmervice!!!”
Which, of course, will only demonstrate (once again) the contempt for the rule of law GOPers have.
April 2nd, 2008 at 3:57 PM
If someone was living at that address I would think that they would be, at the very least, forwarding all mail to Angry Al. Of course that doesn’t mean that Angry Al paid attention to it when he received it because as we all know liberals like Angry Al feel they are above the law – the law is for the little people not the liberal elite.
April 2nd, 2008 at 3:59 PM
You continue to make the case why your are the top blogger in this state and completely indispensable to MN Politics.
April 2nd, 2008 at 4:05 PM
And rePete shows up as “usual suspect number 1″….
April 2nd, 2008 at 4:08 PM
Duping the mainstream media is no tough task. It’s like pretending to throw the ball for you dog and watching him react.
In my opinion, the media’s laziness and hidden political agenda are a couple of reasons blogs are gaining in popularity.
April 2nd, 2008 at 4:16 PM
That and our local media is litlle more than DFL talking points.
Puddles, you are a strech at times.
Chet is eaxctly right when he says a democRat could kill a classroom full of kids and he would try to go off on another suject. thus is how he makes his drinking money, paid to try and counter Michaels very effective blog.
Al will be pretty much toast by the time the general rolls around.
Angry Al is a liar and knows full well he did not pay this and I am very certain he still would not be paying it if it had not come out. that is how far leftist work, their world does not believe in the sames rules they want all others to follow.
Do not think so, ask Angry Al about money still owed to a boys and girls club who had their funds stolen because a liberal radio station is not able to make it on it’s own. Had they not stolen that money to make through the tougher times, it would be a memory by now.
Liberalism will always fail society and never deliever any of the promises they make.

Typical Frightened RightWingNut Guy,
You simply have to do a better job, if you want anyone to be convinced you’re really the one an’ only “little stones”.
Not nearly enough
nor cuss words don’t fool anyone….

~ In Box A. The signature is printed
~ In Box B. There is no date
~ In Box C. There is no signature by the “x”; it looks like a Z [a mi amigo el zorro]
~ In Box D. A date Jul [11?] 14, 2007 is stamped. Was the box YES supposed to be checked and was not, and another address listed? Like the one where a J. Gauthier might live or work at?
April 2nd, 2008 at 5:07 PM
poor puddles, just have a hard time losing don’t ya.
Seems you are not nearly as smart as you think you are.
April 2nd, 2008 at 5:08 PM
Nice job of thorough fact finding Mike.
I can’t wait to see the video of you posing a question about this to Al…we can only hope that his ever attendant butt-boy doesn’t pull Al’s arm out of the socket trying to get him clear of your line of (verbal) fire.
April 2nd, 2008 at 5:09 PM
“There is no signature by the “xâ€..”
The “x” *is* the signature…we’re talking Franken genes here.
April 2nd, 2008 at 5:21 PM
About focusing on other family members on MDE:
On a previous post there was writing about “marrying well.” There is writing about “Bill Clinton,” the spouse of “Hillary Clinton.”
Most family members who are minors, are an easy off-limits for most people, the overwhelming majority of the time.
Family members who become adults – less so.
Family members who are adults – even less so.
Is it crucial to the point? seems to be a good guideline.
April 2nd, 2008 at 6:32 PM
T.F.RWN.G. – better on the
, but: no cuss words.
IOW – close, but no cigar!
Ya gotta get better (worse?) if you’re gonna mock little stones!!!
April 2nd, 2008 at 7:39 PM
~Why isn’t there a signature in Box C?
~Is what looks like a Z, a signature, in Box C?
~Is the “Z”, what the postal worker, [certified mail person; perhaps employee # 1267821] accepted for a signature for printed name, “J. Gauthier”?
April 2nd, 2008 at 8:23 PM
Puddles, once again BRILLIANT. Geez you crap just doesn’t change any. Booorrrriiinggg
April 2nd, 2008 at 9:02 PM
We’ve got the two most confused trolls I’ve ever seen. They’re like Beavis and Butthead but without the intelligence.
April 2nd, 2008 at 11:02 PM
There is also the number 130693 that comes after the employee number: 1267821.
Article number: 7179 0655 4920 0034 6219
Service type: and “x” in the box of Certified Mail
April 3rd, 2008 at 12:29 AM
Did Franken ever sell, or ever claimed to have sold his property in New York City? If he hadn’t, the fact that his daughter lived there or used it as her address means next to nothing. If you had signed proof, by Al Franken, that he received certified mail requesting payment, then you would have something. Anything less than that, and you would merely be speculating on what happened. It looks to me that this is what is still going on.
April 3rd, 2008 at 2:25 AM
Perhaps Franken & Coleman & Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer will VOLUNTARILY agree to take a PUBLIC POLYGRAPH test!
To make the sides even, we could also add Republican Senator Larry Craig from Idaho.
Each person could ask the other person, 2 questions each to start. No “softball” questions!
That would mean that each person would ask, and be asked a total of six (6) questions.
If it works out well, perhaps VP Dick Cheney, would volunteer during the upcoming Republican Convention.
After all if President GWB can look into Putin’s eyes and read a man’s character, he probably did something similar to that when he selected Dick Cheney.
April 3rd, 2008 at 9:19 AM
“After all if President GWB can look into Putin’s eyes and read a man’s character,…”
I still can’t believe that moron said that.
Here, again, is what Boy Blunder said, after meeting Putin (who ran the KGB) for the first time:
“I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straight forward and trustworthy and we had a very good dialogue. I was able to get a sense of his soul.”
ROFLMAO!!!!
The guy ran the KGB, and Boy Blunder thinks he’s got a “soul”??!? That he’s “trustworthy”??!?
It’s amazing that there are still any bootlickers left, at all, that think Bush The Lesser has done a good job….
April 3rd, 2008 at 9:26 AM
You mean two troll names, only one troll in the end.
Puddles = El pres.
April 4th, 2008 at 1:52 PM
Big Kahuna, you do not seem to understand the very basic concept of number(s), and perhaps even the differences between ordinal and cardinal.
TwoPuttTommy = 1 person
el presidente = 1 person
TwoPuttTommy + el presidente = 2 person(s)
