MN GOP PRESS RELEASE: “RPM CALLS ON AL FRANKEN TO FULLY EXPLAIN HIS FAILURE TO PAY WORKERS’ COMP.”
By Michael B. Brodkorb | April 3, 2008
St. Paul- Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey today issued the following statement regarding revelations that Al Franken for Senate received multiple donations from a family member who used Franken’s Manhattan address as her mailing address at a time Franken claimed he never saw multiple letters from the state of New York regarding his failure to pay worker’s comp insurance.
“Al Franken’s preposterous claim that he never saw dozens of letters from New York state regarding his failure to pay workers’ compensation doesn’t pass the smell test. Now we find out Franken’s family was cutting checks to his campaign from the very same address in Manhattan during the very same period he claims he never got his mail. Franken likes to talk about accountability but refuses all accountability for himself. I call on Franken to stop hiding behind his campaign staffers and fully address the many questions that continue to swirl around his failure to pay workers’ comp.â€
Franken Claims He Never Saw Multiple Notices About His Failure To Pay Workers’ Comp:
“Campaign spokesman Andy Barr said that neither Franken nor his wife, Franni, were aware of the matter before Tuesday. They have lived in Minneapolis for the past few years and did not know about the state’s attempts to reach them in New York City, he said.†(Kevin Duchschere, “Franken Faces Penalties For Lack Of Workers’ Insurance,†Star Tribune, March 5, 2008)
Yet Franken Family Member Cut Multiple Checks To Franken Campaign From Same Address During Same Period Franken Says He Never Got His Mail:
“Upon examining public records from the Federal Elections Commission, I discovered that a Franken family member made two contributions to Franken’s campaign in 2007. The dates of the contributions were March 14, 2007 and September 30, 2007. The address listed for the contributor is the same address where the State of New York sent a certified letter notifying Franken about issues related to his failure to provide workers’ compensation insurance for his corporation’s employees. The letter was signed by a ‘J. Gauthier’ on July 14, 2007.†(Minnesota Democrats Blog, Accessed April 3, 2008)

How does it feel?†A. “It doesn’t feel that different. (Laughs). It’s not like Franken wasn’t in the process of moving to Minnesota until he did a radio show there in January of 2006. He bought his residence in Minnesota in the spring of 2005, which coincides with the time period where the state of New York reportedly began to try to contact him.

What if former Governor Jesse Ventura calls on both Coleman and Franken [and himself] to take polygraph tests.
