DFL LEGISLATIVE LEADERS PICKED A BRASS BAND MUSIC LIBRARY OVER A NURSING HOME FACILITY

By Michael B. Brodkorb | April 8, 2008

“St. Paul, Minn. — For the past week, lawmakers have been urging Gov. Pawlenty to use his line-item veto authority to trim the total cost of the bonding bill to his preferred size.

Pawlenty took them up on that suggestion, making cuts that went deeper than lawmakers — especially St. Paul lawmakers — would have liked. After using his line-item veto authority, the size of the bonding bill went from $925 million to $717 million.

‘One of the things that I’m very disappointed the Legislature did not do is say no,’ said Pawlenty.

Pawlenty said most of the vetoed projects had merit, but he said the state had to keep spending in check.

He did, however, single out one project that he charactized as a mistake — a brass band music lending library in Chatfield. He said he would have preferred to see lawmakers spend money on a nursing facility at the Minneapolis Veterans Home instead.” Source: MPR, April 7, 2008

‘The bill also reflected misplaced priorities,’ Pawlenty told reporters, noting that lawmakers would fund a new sheet music museum in southeastern Minnesota while ignoring his request to build a new Minneapolis veterans’ home facility.” Source: Bemidji Pioneer, April 8, 2008

“Republicans picked a “Bridge To Nowhere” in Alaska, over fully funding the VA.”

Two can play this game, Michael.

Your comment to an article about a bonding bill passed by the Minnesota legislature in 2008 is relevant how, putzy?

Raise your hand and ask your teacher, pal.

Or wait ’till recess, if you’re too embarassed.

The legislature said no, they chopped 4 billion in requests down to 900 million. If you don’t like the library cut it out, but there was no excuse to cut the central corridor especially since he lobbied the congressional delegation for the money.

As for the Veterans’ home, if you have not been paying attention the management of the home the last few years has been horrible. They need to make sure that problem is fixed first, before they build a new facility.

As usual, your comment is not relevant and is simply a conflation of two unrelated issues. Thanks for playing.

Why do we need a veterans home? We are winning the war, and as you all know, as long as you are winning, no one gets hurt.

  7. TwoPuttTommy Says:

Hey, if ya can’t figure it out, just man-up and say so!

  8. Sparky Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 12:08 PM

Yeah, that’s what we need… Another line of empty trains shuttling between empty downtowns run by liberal socialist assholes.

  9. Sparky Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 12:09 PM

On the upside, those trains will shuttle the criminals back and forth just like they do to the Mall of America.

As long as TooPudPuller wants to talk national pork, here are some of the favorites from America’s leading KKK leader and Democrat Senator:

  11. Swiftee Says:

Why do Democrats hate veterans? I bet that if we could get a few “moonbat cams” into the Democrat house and senate chambers we’d see them laughing at the casualty list in “Stars & Stripes”.

Crazy Ned says: “As for the Veterans’ home, if you have not been paying attention the management of the home the last few years has been horrible. They need to make sure that problem is fixed first, before they build a new facility.”

Heh, I been saying that about the public schools for ten years, pal…but the cash just keeps flowing.

We got moonbat problems up in here!

  12. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 12:46 PM

Sparky, you know the numero uno earmark-hog from Minnesota is that noted liberal, er, ‘scuse me, “conservative”, Norm “Smokescreen” Coleman, R=Lapdog, doncha?

  13. Chestnut Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 1:17 PM

Actually, Klobuchar’s name is attached to over $201 million in earmarks to Coleman’s $172 million.

On individual Earmarks, Minnesota’s Democrat delegation owns about $14.5 million in earmarks to the Republicans $11 million.

  14. Chris Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 1:41 PM

Why should the state be on the hook for another $70 million for the Central Corridor project? After Hennepin and Ramsey Counties just raised their sales taxes for transit, they should soon be flush with cash to pay for the $70 million.

  15. el presidente Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 1:42 PM

    Swiftee,

Then keep the recruiters out of the public schools.

  16. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 1:42 PM

    Chestnut, I stand corrected.

“According to data collected by Taxpayers for Common Sense, Coleman ranked 35th in the Senate with $172,180,750 allocated in earmarks. Coleman ranked lower than Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., who at 26th, tallied $200,881,250 in appropriations.”

But, ya gonna give me partial credit, as the top two in the state are both liberals?

  17. el presidente Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 1:44 PM

Another simple solution: during the national GOP convention don’t have delegates use mass transit.

  18. Buffet Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 2:19 PM

“On the upside, those trains will shuttle the criminals back and forth just like they do to the Mall of America.”

Sparky you shouldn’t be so tough on the Republican delegates, they are not all criminals :)

  19. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 2:36 PM

Speakin’ o’ republiCon criminals, a quick google shows that the Ghost Of Jack Abramoff is still haunting the GreedOverPrinciples party….

Perhaps the PEOPLE OF SAINT PAUL will rise up and demonstrate against the action that PAW CLAWS has taken, and FOR Light Rail Mass Transit.

  21. el presidente Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 2:50 PM

What if cyclists rode in SAINT PAUL demonstrating FOR Light Rail Mass Transit?

  22. el presidente Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 2:53 PM

What if the Critical Mass cycling movement grew larger and larger as they rode for a common cause supporting Light Rail Mass Transit for the City of SAINT PAUL?

  23. Newton Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 3:31 PM

What if these morons on bikes ever obeyed a stop sign or traffic signal?

    Now THAT would be newsworthy…

  24. Chestnut Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 3:50 PM

“What if the Critical Mass cycling movement grew larger and larger as they rode for a common cause supporting Light Rail Mass Transit for the City of SAINT PAUL?”

I can’t think of a better target for rubber bullets… and maybe a few lead ones.

  25. Swiftee Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 6:05 PM

2punk said: “Chestnut, I stand corrected.”

Yeah, you may stand corrected, but you squat to pee.

  26. el presidente Says:

    Chestnut,

    Re: Your post #24
