MN GOP PRESS RELEASE: “3RD CD DEMOCRATS ENDORSE FAR-LEFT MADIA”
By Michael B. Brodkorb | April 12, 2008
“Given his far-left views, Ashwin Madia is the last person who should fill the seat of a bipartisan problem solver and moderate like Jim Ramstad. No matter how hard he tries to his obscure his true views in the general election, Madia is too partisan and too liberal for the Third.” - Ron Carey, Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman
THE FACTS ABOUT ASHWIN MADIA
Madia Is Tax & Spend Liberal
Madia Opposes 2001-2003 Tax Cuts. “The candidates agree – or come close – on some issues. For example, both oppose continuing President Bush’s tax cuts…” (Harvey Rockwood, “Bonoff, Madia Appear Headed For Nomination Fight For DFL Endorsement In 3rd Congressional District,” Sun Newspapers, April 1, 2008)
Madia Opposed Bi-Partisan Economic Stimulus Package. “I disagree with the plan that was recently passed by Congress, which was the very short-term stimulus package…” (Pig’s Eye Podcast, www.startribune.com <http://www.startribune.com/> , March 17, 2008)
Madia Opposes Terrorist Surveillance Program
Madia Opposes Terrorist Surveillance Program. “‘Another bad decision would be going after our civil liberties – warrantless wiretaps or torture or secret prisons,’ he said.” (T.W. Budig, “Five Candidates For Ramstad’s Seat Give Their Views,” ECM Publishers, February 12, 2008)
Madia Supported By Extreme Ellison
“Congressman Keith Ellison Is Backing Former Marine Ashwin Madia For The Congressional Seat Being Vacated By Republican Jim Ramstad.” (“Ellison Endorses Madia For Congress,” Associated Press, April 10, 2008)
Madia’s Boss Mike Ciresi Backs Bonoff Over Own Employee
“Today former candidate for U.S. Senate and long-time attorney Mike Ciresi announced his support of Terri Bonoff and her campaign to represent Minnesota’s 3rd District in Congress.” (Bonoff for Congress Press Release, March 24, 2008)

He missed the fact Madia is also a strong vocal supporter of gay marriage.
April 12th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
Wow. Madeia opposes illegal wiretaps, torture and secret prisons. He should be tortured and locked up in one of those secret prisons.

This is an extremely weak press release. The second point under the first category doesn’t make any sense. Madia opposed that package because it would have added debt to the gov. ledger – how does that make him a tax and spend liberal?
The rest of the headers are extreme distortions of the points. The GOP is going to have try harder to pigeon hole Madia.

Weak

I think if the third district democrats had endorsed the sun coming in the morning, our local Republicans would have accused the sun as being part of the far left agenda.

Madia is going to lose by at least 15 points. The democrats have yet again nominated someone unelectable. The Republicans just need to replay Madia’s call to have a “driving free” Sunday, and saying that the cause of 9-11 was the Americans drive too much. This type of absurdity is what gives Democrats a bad name. Madia has also come out in favor of appeasment of Iran, and Ellison’s backing shows where he stands on those issues.
Paulsen should be looking for an apartment in DC right about now.

As one who has criticized Ron Carey and the state party staff, let me say that having Drake attend the DFL convention was a stroke of genius. Also, kudos go to the party staff’s research that went into the ready response.
Well done! Well played!
April 12th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Say, Counselor? It was a pleasure to have him attend our convention.
Mark Drake is a very nice guy. And has a great sense of humor.
Makes me wonder what he’s doin’ in the GOP…..

Concerning predictions as to how Madia will do, only time will tell. But I do know that in defeating Terri Bonoff, he has demonstrated an ability to mount an extremely effective grass roots campaign. The odds favor the Republicans in the third district, which they have carried since the election of 1960. But with an uncharismatic candidate with views probably a little to the right of the district, running against a very interesting, and truth be told, centrist Democrat, it should be an interesting race.

Tell me how any of those above points are “far left”. Endorsing Ellison, probably…but the rest are a joke. Why even put opposing the stimulus package on there? I thought you right wingers would all be against it, being that the best solution is do do nothing. Hands off approach to governemnt no longer a staple of the MN GOP? Anyways, very weak press release.

BMcC – according to this press release, the GOP approves of and has support for warrantless wire-taps, torture, and secret prisons.
Uncle Ronnie spoke of being the shining city on the hill; an inspiration for the world.
Today’s GOP talks of bein’ this century’s Spanish Inquisition.
Uncle Ronnie is spinning in his grave, at what these neo-clowns have done to the once-proud Grand Old Party.
Because of these neo-clowns, GOP now stands for GreedOverPrinciples.

Show me Madia’s record that would suggest he is a centrist democrat. In fact, show me Madia’s record.
Doesn’t exist.
Risky nomination, and I think a bad one.
April 13th, 2008 at 9:13 am
I just can’t get over the GOP crticizing Madia for being against torture and secret prisons.
Saddens me to no end.
I thought this was America, where we strive to be better.
Sickens me.
Michael, do you endorse torture and secret prisons?
If your answer to the above is affirmative:
Who would Jesus torture?
April 13th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
Sad and sick, sounds like you should be in bed. Support torture and secret prisions? If it saves US lives you betcha! Who would Jesus torture? My money is on left wing baby killers.
April 13th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Pete – make no mistake: you are worse than the terrorists. They are thugs and make no bones about it. You wallow in the mire while pretending to be something you are not.
April 13th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
FI, Too bad your opinion doesn’t mean squat. Make no mistake, you are a US hating left wing fanatic who doesn’t give a damn about saving US lives – soldiers or babys.
April 13th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
Pete – You are spot on. There is no excuse for the killing of innocent babies. Especially if you call it “choice”.
April 13th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
Pete,
I suggest you re-read your bible.
April 13th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Pete, you are the exact reason this country is so divided. Why do you feel the need to be offensive? Tim has a very legitimate question to point out the immense hypocrisy that is the religious right while you simply reply by calling us “baby killers”. If I remember correctly, I stopped calling people names as a legitimate response when I turned 10.
Furthermore, fetuses are not babies. Point blank period. If they were babies, they would not be in the mother’s womb. They are fetuses and that is a point pro-lifers love to confuse for their own gain.
April 13th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
Fetuses are young babies. There’s no confusion. Democrats are okay with killing fetuses and we aren’t. Where’s the confusion?
April 13th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
Andrew, Tim didn’t say “religious right” he said “GOP”.
Either way we want to kill terrorists and coddle babies. You want to coddle terrorists and kill babies. The issue may be alot of things but it is not unclear what side the Democrats are on and what side we are on.
We are in a war and people are dying for us, defending our country. Give their religion a break why don’t you. And condemn the enemy that is killing us, for once.
April 14th, 2008 at 6:27 am
Andrew, glad to see you stopped name calling last year – good for you! And Andrew I do not belong to a church nor do I attend church so to confuse the issue with the “religious right” is incorrect. I simply know right from wrong. Apparently you do not. Tim I have read the bible and understand it well. I know that Jesus would not want his children torn apart in the womb. I do not understand how you baby killers can even suggest that Jesus would support that happening!!
April 14th, 2008 at 8:00 am
“You want to coddle terrorists…”
Yeah, “right”.
If you have to make stuff up to make your point, your point isn’t worth making.
April 15th, 2008 at 10:06 am
Can I be pro-life and against torture?
