MUST READ FROM THE STAR TRIBUNE/AP: “FRANKEN CORPORATION DIDN’T FILE TAX RETURNS IN CALIFORNIA FROM ’03-07″
By Michael Brodkorb | April 16, 2008
“Democratic Senate candidate Al Franken’s personal corporation didn’t file corporate income tax returns in California from 2003 to 2007.
A spokesman for the California Franchise Tax Board said the corporation, Alan Franken Inc. (AFI), owes a minimum of $800 per year as well as penalties and interest to the state of California.” Source: Associated Press/Star Tribune, April 16, 2008

“Franken’s corporation is now considered forfeited by the state of California. A campaign spokeswoman said Franken was operating under the advice of an accountant who believed that when the corporation stopped doing business in California, no further filing was required.
Campaign spokeswoman Jess McIntosh said the corporation didn’t get notifications that tax returns had not been filed. Barrett said notices should have been sent out.
Franken, a former comedian and writer, established his corporation to receive payment for speeches and TV and movie royalties. The corporation’s forfeited status in California was brought to light by Minnesota Democrats Exposed, a blog critical of Franken, and publicized by the Minnesota Republican Party” Source: Associated Press/Star Tribune, April 16, 2008

Too funny!!! Good job Michael, you know twopudd is just hating the fact you get so much attention.
He is hoping to take over your blog one day and enjoy such success.
Poor Angry Al, you know he is throwing stuff and yelling somewhere.
I bet he really thoought with MN having such a liberal voting record that none of this would have mettered and he was a shoe in. Bummer for Angry Al, you know he will be just so professional and polite when he gives his consession speech.

Wow. Jess McIntosh and Team Franken are using the exact same lies they tried to use to cover up the workers compensation scandal. I thought for sure they would be clever enough to come up with a new lie since the first one failed so miserably.

I just heard that a very prominent lobbyist/former bit-time legislator/recent Ciresi supporter is broaching the subject over here as to how soon Ciresi ought to be rethinking his decision to drop out.
Don’t be shocked if that discussion heats up within DFL circles, even if it means a primary against a damaged, tax-evading Franken.

“Campaign spokeswoman Jess McIntosh said the corporation didn’t get notifications that tax returns had not been filed.”
So, for those of you keeping score:
1st inning: Al is implicated in a scam to bilk a childrens charity…first he says he didn’t know anything, but when a document is produced with his signature on it, he says he didn’t read the legal document his lawyer put under his nose to sign.
2nd inning: Al is implicated in New York for failing to pay workers comp for his employees….first he says he didn’t know anything about it, but when a document is produced that proves he did he just stops talking.
3rd inning: Al is implicated in California for failure to pay income taxes. Through his mouthpiece Al says he didn’t know he was supposed to pay taxes.
Well, it looks like Al has learned to have others do his lying for him!
April 16th, 2008 at 2:33 PM
You know when MDE’s shots hit meat…the silence from his moonbat fans is deafening!
Angry Al remains a viable candidate only in the empty brainpans of the lunatic left.
April 16th, 2008 at 2:46 PM
Interesting, some little fishy posted earlier in the day that we ought not make the leap to Franken not paying his taxes.
Little guppie, what say you?
Franken didn’t pay his workers comp in NY, and he didn’t pay his taxes in California. He got caught while doing a short stint in Minnesota to try to take one of our Senate seats.
And all along the way, he’s taken his crisis management strategy right from Attorney General Matt Entenza’s play book.
Maybe now it is time to start telling the truth.
April 16th, 2008 at 2:58 PM
If his corporation ceased doing business in the state in 2002, what, preytell, would he be taxed on?
Seems to me you all are suddenly following the lead of T-Paw, and advocating a pro-tax agenda.
And the very fact that Capitol Insider is reporting that Ciresi is headed back into the race proves to me how far away that is from happening.
April 16th, 2008 at 2:58 PM
Actually, little stones – I’m happy for Michael. For all you GOPers out there, you got a real pro in Michael Brodkorb. I got to spend a little time with Michael and Mark Driak at the press conference, and it worked out well for them.
At first, the GOPers were gonna have Ted Baxter, er, ‘scuse me, “Ron Carey”, (that’s a joke, for all you bootlickers readin’ this!) do the conference in Room 125.
But, apparently, the lege and T-Paw had a meeting, and the press were outside o’ T-Paw’s office. When I got there, Senators Clark and Pogemiller and Rep. Kelliher were at the mic – and they were gracious to the GOP and the Governor and expressed optimism things could be worked out on the budget.
Next up were some stuffed suits, er, ‘scuse me, “GOP Leaders” (that’s a joke, for all you bootlickers readin’ this!) who were very gracious and expressed optimism that things would work out on the budget.
Then Brian McKlingon, er, ‘scuse me, “McClung” (that’s a joke, for all you bootlickers readin’ this!) spoke, and he was not quite as gracious but explained some of The Governor’s concerns about the choo-choo, but that if the DFL were sufficiently groveling andwould save the state money by washing and waxing the capital floor with toothbrushes every day for a week, His Royalnes, The Esteemed Vice-President Elect, er, ‘scuse me, “Governor”, might let them ride a choo-choo after all!!!
(that’s a joke, for all you bootlickers readin’ this!)
Then came Ted, er, ‘scuse me, “Ron” Carely.
Quite frankly, I’m surprised this story has already been written up. One question to Carey was that with all that’s happening in the state and in the lege and in the world, this is a story for exactly what reason?
No good answer from Carey, but a LOT of words.
Carey was asked straight out if the GOP had done any investigation on this or if it was simply relying on Investigative Journalist Extroaordinare, the increaingly famous Mr. Michael Brodkorb – and despite a follow-up on this, Carely spoke a LOT of words without answering.
I got a quick “This is a non-story” response from a Franken spokesman about this, on my way to the Capital this morning.
Obviously, this is a big story on the right side of the spectrum; it remains to be seen if it is picked up.
I’m personally placing the over/under on the number of posts the esteemed Michael Brodkorb starts at an even dozen.
I’ll register my displeasure with somethin’ Mr. Carey said, at this conference, on one o’ those threads.

Wow, Comrade Puddles actually thinks someone cares what he thinks! Too Funny that is…
April 16th, 2008 at 3:20 PM
Pretty incredible. At tax cheat to Al Franken’s resume.
Seems Franken always has someone else to blame for his ignorance and getting in the way of the law.
It’s a pretty complicated means to giving the bullshit “the dog ate my homework” excuse.
Al Franken, CEO and CFO… there’s no excuse for his ignorance of critical legal and financial filings related to his business.
April 16th, 2008 at 3:23 PM
“Wow, Comrade Puddles actually thinks…”
As opposed to you, rePete – who clearly is incapable of thought.
But, ya do a damn fine job spoutin’ “Dittos, Rush!!!”
It’s awful nice of you, rePete, to prove that to this day, Pavolv was correct.
April 16th, 2008 at 3:25 PM
Too Funny that is… Comrade Puddles! What more can I say but BRILLIANT!!
April 16th, 2008 at 3:54 PM
Frances, I didn’t say the trial lawyer was getting back in the race, I said there are those around here who would like that to happen.
If you don’t think that is true, especially in light of Franken’s tax problems, you must be totally clueless.
April 16th, 2008 at 3:55 PM
What is funny is all the name dropping puddles is up to now. I told you, he really, really wants to be an inportant person in MN politics. Too bad he is just a mouthpiece and at best can only wear his brown shirt and lick the boots of his commanders at the DFL.
Say puddles, you seem to want to ignore my comments about you NEEDING this blog to try and get yourself some attetion for your future political life.
I think it is cute how the far leftist wing of the democRats are trying to take it over as the Conservatives had the Republican party years ago.
Great news for those of us who hate them, middle of the road voters do not like liberals or what they stand for, they will always have to lie about their true agendas.
April 16th, 2008 at 3:56 PM
It is much more fun to read the comments left by democRats on the strib site, seems very few are liking the idea the DFL will nominate Angry Al.
April 16th, 2008 at 4:04 PM
Boy, not a mention of this story at MN Pooplius?? Why one might think they were pro-Franken.
Hmm.. because it says they are “tracking the status of MN politics.” Guess that only means when it is positive news for democRats.
I wonder if there is a way to bring them into court to get that taken off as they clearly are not about tracking “ploitics” in MN, rather all about promoting democRats.
I need to look into that one.
April 16th, 2008 at 4:05 PM
“Say puddles, you seem to want to ignore my comments…”
Actually, little stones, in fact I DO ignore ‘em. ‘Cause the LAST thing I want is a “political life”; once you bootlickers’ tent is shrunk small enough I’ll just drown you rat-bastards in a bathtub and go back to playin’ more golf than any hacker really should!!!
And that’s exactly what I’m gonna start doin’ tomorrow.
I went down to the capital today, watched reporters sneer at Ron, and went to the driving range to beat a coupla buckets.
It’s spring time – time to beat balls and republiCons!!!
April 16th, 2008 at 4:09 PM
Why it also seem Mpls was able to find $900,000.00 for bike trail improvements from some of the transportation funds.
Why is it we knew full well this is the kind of shit the DFL would spend the money on.
Yep, can hardly wait for the congestion to end now that we have the new gas tax. Why Mark H over at Air (Anti) America said this was going to free up traffic right away.
April 16th, 2008 at 4:12 PM
Stick with that one puddles.
Say, do you not ever feel guilty about taking tax payer funds to go play golf? Oh wait, you are a liberal and would expect such rights.
Still puddles, even now you are telling us how you were at the capitol.
You so badly want to be someone important it is down right funny!
You are a shell of a man who hides behind computer screens.
You are alos the biggest bootlicker I have ever seen. All you are about is democRat talking points, do you have any independant thoughts of your own because everything you write very closely resembles what others have written on lefty blogs.
You might be good at cut and paste, but pretty much just a bootlicker.
April 16th, 2008 at 4:18 PM
WOW!!! Six (cheney)in’
!!!
Way to go, Typical Frightened RightWingNut Guy- you almost got the little stones sctick down!!!
Now, toss in a few (cheney)in’ gratuitous cuss words, and you’ll be imitatin’ little stones with little stone’s style!!!
April 16th, 2008 at 4:42 PM
silly question. There are 50 states in the union. How many of the other 48 are owed taxes by Franken? I suppose California and New York were major states that he had entertainment ties to, but Al got on a roll it looks like.

Walter-
So glad to see you embrace the idea of taxing people and corporations even after they cease doing business in a state. Now, lets start doing that here. Imagine how much cash we can get out of Northwest once they move to Atlanta? This is a great precedent y’all are advocating.
April 16th, 2008 at 4:56 PM
Frank, actually all we ask is that corporations obey the law, no matter if the law makes sense or not. The Democrats love big gov’t and heavy regulation, but Franken doesn’t seem to be able to keep up with that. Maybe he should campaign on smaller, less burdensome gov’t.
April 16th, 2008 at 5:17 PM
I am sure you are all familiar with California statute, specifically Corporations Code section 1906?
If not, I highly recommend reading it. If the Star Tribune had done their research, they would have learned;
“1906. Except as otherwise provided by law, if the term of existence for which any corporation was organized expires without renewal or extension thereof, the board shall terminate its business and wind up its affairs; and when the business and affairs of the corporation have been wound up a majority of the directors shall execute and file
a certificate conforming to the requirements of Section 1905.”
Don’t ya hate when facts get in the way of a good smear job?
April 16th, 2008 at 6:22 PM
I know for a fact that the State of California owes Al Franken $34,612.
(See. I can make up numbers too).
April 16th, 2008 at 6:44 PM
Explain the forfeited corporation again?
April 16th, 2008 at 7:16 PM
Who will get into or stay in the races?
Joe Lieberman, Darryl Stanton, Dick Franson, Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer, Norm Coleman, Jesse Ventura, Al Franken, Big Kahuna?
April 16th, 2008 at 7:17 PM
Darryl Stanton, Dick Franson, Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer, Norm Coleman, Jesse Ventura, Al Franken, Big Kahuna perhaps could be candidates for the primary.
April 16th, 2008 at 7:23 PM
From the StarTribune
“DFL Senate candidate Al Franken owes at least $4,000 to the state of California after failing to file state income tax returns for his personal corporation since 2003, officials said today.”
April 16th, 2008 at 7:25 PM
God bless you Michael, you nailed another one!
Al’s bill for unpaid taxes: $4000. The whining of libs here: priceless.
April 16th, 2008 at 7:32 PM
At least $4000….
April 16th, 2008 at 7:37 PM
Ignorance is apparently quite blissful for y’all.
I posted above that if a company fails to renew its registration with the state, it is to be closed in the second year of non-registration. So, it stands to reason that the state that released Sara Jane Olson early may have made another mistake here. There is no way he would owe taxes for any more than two years, under CALIFORNIA LAW.
And I defy y’all to prove otherwise.
April 16th, 2008 at 7:39 PM
Master – As Frank whines on: priceless!
April 16th, 2008 at 7:55 PM
So, Cash can’t do it.
Any other takers?
April 16th, 2008 at 8:01 PM
Hey FRank? Check it out…no one needs to waste a frickin’ minute responding to your assinine blather.
Al Franken is in the tank. That’s a fact. That’s all we care about.
Understand?
April 16th, 2008 at 9:41 PM
The problem for Franken is this:
The allegation can be summed up in one sentence: Franken did not pay taxes in California.
Franken’s explanation, such as it is, takes more than one sentence.
From my experience, less is more in these kind of political matters. Put another way, if the explanation is longer than the allegation, the explainer comes out on the short end of the stick.
April 16th, 2008 at 10:57 PM
“The allegation can be summed up in one sentence: Franken did not pay taxes in California.”
16 words.
“From my experience, less is more in these kind of political matters. Put another way, if the explanation is longer than the allegation, the explainer comes out on the short end of the stick.”
OK, I’ll play. Here’s my response:
“Counselor, you are full of shit.”
There – that’s 6 words; I win and you lose.
Thank you for the gift of your experience.
April 17th, 2008 at 2:33 AM
Here is the cure.
Have Franken follow in Norm’s footsteps and turn from a Democrat to a Republican. Then all of this will disappear like magic!
April 17th, 2008 at 7:37 AM
Stuart Smalley, where are you?
April 17th, 2008 at 9:32 AM
TPT:
Brilliant!!!
April 17th, 2008 at 9:48 AM
Frank:
You misunderstand the point.
Franken has as much responsibility to pay the taxes of his corporation as does Exxon. You expect Exxon to pay their taxes so why shouldn’t Franken’s corporation?
What I complain about isn’t that they pay taxes since most corportations shift the cost to us. It’s what rate! The smaller the better.
and most important why should a normal corporation have to play by rules that Al Franken thinks he doesn’t have to obey.
Frank Al isn’t obeying the rules to begin with.
