TEAM FRANKEN’S SPIN IS DESPERATE AND RIDICULOUS

By Michael B. Brodkorb | April 16, 2008

I went to the Republican Party of Minnesota press event about Al Franken’s business problems in California. Team Franken’s push back is that Franken’s corporation wasn’t doing business in California anymore, therefore they stopped filling the legally required documents with the State of California.

This is ridiculous and desperate spin from Team Franken. California’s Franchise Tax Board has detailed instructions on their website on how to legally dissolve a corporation. If Franken’s corporation wasn’t doing business in California, why didn’t he dissolve the corporation?

UPDATE: The Star Tribune and Associated Press are reporting that Franken’s corporation didn’t file corporate tax returns from 2003-2007.

This post also appears on Blogs for Norm!, an online community and blog covering the 2008 U.S. Senate campaign in Minnesota. The primary goal of Blogs for Norm! is to organize bloggers who support U.S. Senator Norm Coleman.

I see TPT’s ace reporter in his usual place on the floor, front and center.

We’ll see if they bother to report this important story at all, or merely spin it a bit.

I guess we can add “Lazy” to the list of words that describe Al Franken. Here’s a rundown:

Thief: Stole money from a New York charity for children

Spaz: Has a hissy fit (thanks Mia Mao) upon any encounter with someone who may dissent from his extreme views… barks like a dog and chews towels when on treadmills…

    Criminal: Broke employment laws

Lazy: If his story is correct (but he is a liar, so I doubt it) he was too lazy to fill out the legally required forms to end his business in Calif.

Liar: Wrote several books full of lies, continues to tell lies about his own policies, plans and ambitions

Failure: Was never very funny, but his comedy career dried up faster than alcohol on a hot plate.

Nice try, GOP Imposter. What part of “former” do I need to explain to you?

“Prior to serving in the State Senate, Bachmann spent five years as a federal tax litigation attorney, working on hundreds of civil and criminal cases. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann is a fiscal conservative who is dedicated to reducing the tax burden on Minnesota families.”

But go ahead and froth at the mouth. Angry Al is in deep water and the sharks are circling.

What Franken’s people are failing to acknowledge is that this is a TAX issue, not a mere filing issue. There is a reason that the Franchise Tax Board is handling the issue and not the Secretary of State or similar department.

Did someone already explain to y’all how this was going to shake out?

Oh. Yes. I believe I did.

Seems odd that you all pretend so hard to be in favor of business, and yet none of you have ever run one. Maybe if any of you had, you would recognize how dreadfully common this situation is.

But I will still give you two points for trying. Like a dog trying to catch its own tail, I applaud your work ethic, I just doubt your potential for success.

Perhaps it time for Joe Lieberman to run in Minnesota as a Republican?

  7. Chet Says:
    April 16th, 2008 at 2:00 PM

It’s now time to start a new tally: How many laws did Angry Al obey? Seems he can’t find one he hasn’t broken when related to his company.

el pres, I have been waiting for your comment about Liberman or Miller? You have been ever so concerned about what happens to the “override 6″ I was sure you must be upset about what the democRats did to Liberman. ;)

  9. Chestnut Says:

    Al Franken: Tax Cheat.

  10. Pete Says:
    April 16th, 2008 at 3:23 PM

Frank Alan = Idiot. I run a business and I am also employed in a professional field. So sad to see Angry Al go down isn’t it? I’m sure many of the extreme left won’t care because they would vote for any celebrity but Angry Al hasn’t got a prayer getting any other votes.

  11. Frank Alan Says:
    April 16th, 2008 at 3:25 PM

    Pete:

Simple question: If you stopped doing business in the state of Minnesota, would you still owe taxes on your former corporation?

  12. Pete Says:
    April 16th, 2008 at 3:28 PM

Frank Alan. Was it a Minnesota corportation that Al has? To tell you the truth I do not know but I would certainly research it before just walking away from it. You see Democrats are so used to the goverment doing everything for them they are incapable of taking responsiblility for them selves. Even poor little Angry Al is impacted by this bad affliction of the left – stupidity!!

  13. Frank Alan Says:
    April 16th, 2008 at 3:49 PM

So, your answer is, “I don’t know”.

And yet you speak with such certainty about how the state of California business licensing and taxation operates.

The beauty of blogs like this is you can attack anyone you want without needing any facts. Michael has built a career for himself doing just this. And two weeks down the road when it turns out there was nothing to this allegation, the damage is already done.

Bottom line, the voters are going to have to choose between a candidate who has been sloppy with his paperwork, or an incumbent who has done nothing for the state in six years other than collect and cash paychecks. Given these choices, my decision is quite clear.

    “I run a business…”

Babystitting for your younger brother after school is NOT a “business”, rePete.

It really should be part of your allowance, but hey! if it keeps ya off nintendo…..

  15. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    April 16th, 2008 at 4:25 PM

Frank, you’re hittin’ on why the reporters today mostly considered this a non-story.

Here Ron Carely was, in front of a mic, callin’ Al a tax cheat, a liar, and other stuff, when he had no basis in fact for any of it.

But like you said, toss out some raw speculation, and hope it sticks, and who knows?

Even if it doesn’t, the body blows eventually take a toll…..

  16. Pete Says:
    April 16th, 2008 at 9:09 PM

Comrade Puddles, for a guy who mows lawns for a living (I suspect you use dads old Lawn Chief) you sure have a big mouth. You really do hate people who achieve don’t you? I guess if my life was a sorry piece shit like yours I would be a rude nasty little runt too.

  17. Pete Says:
    April 16th, 2008 at 9:15 PM

Frankie, please point out where I “And yet you speak with such certainty about how the state of California business licensing and taxation operates”. I did answer your question correctly and said I would figure it out – only an idiot would walk away with out checking out what their responsibilities are. You really look stupid making excuses for Angry Al on this but from previous posts of yours it is obvious that doesn’t bother you any.

  18. Chestnut Says:
    April 17th, 2008 at 9:45 AM

Walking away is what liberals do. The have grand ideas, create some piece of shit to fulfill them, when that fails in a fucked up mess, they walk away.
