LTE BLASTS FRANKEN’S FAILURE TO PAY TAXES AND WORKERS’ COMP
By Michael B. Brodkorb | April 21, 2008
I’m rather disappointed with the coverage of Al Franken’s tax issues by the Pioneer Press. A recent story highlighted that “Republicans” were making “attacks,” I suppose to suggest they were politically motivated (“More furor over Franken’s finances,” April 17). A political science professor was even quoted to defend Franken. The facts are that it is not the Republicans who are making attacks, but the states of California and New York who are levying fines and penalties.
Failing to pay workers compensation insurance was bad enough, but this recent fine in California demonstrates a pattern of tax evasion. This is particularly damaging because Franken advocates raising the taxes of Minnesotans.
I doubt, however, that further fines will be levied here in Minnesota. After all, it seems that Franken has spent most of his time and business dealings elsewhere.
