GRAND FORKS HERALD BLASTS FRANKEN: “IS FRANKEN READY FOR PRIME TIME?”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | April 29, 2008

“‘DFL Senate hopeful Al Franken is dismissing accusations that he is evading paying back taxes as partisan attacks,’ Minnesota Public Radio reported Sunday.

If that’s true, then Franken is seriously underestimating the accusations’ power.

Two of Minnesota’s most respected political analysts, Larry Jacobs of the University of Minnesota and Lori Sturdevant from the Minneapolis Star Tribune, took turns scolding Franken over the weekend.

And if they’re telling Franken he should be concerned, he should be concerned.

‘Al Franken’s business owes California several thousand dollars in back taxes along with interest and penalties,’ the Minnesota Public Radio story explained.” Source: Grand Folks Herald, April 29, 2008

“Why is this such a serious lapse? Because ‘Minnesotans expect people who run for office to be squeaky clean on this point,’ Sturdevant said Monday on a Star Tribune podcast.

‘Minnesotans take nonpayment of taxes very seriously.’

Furthermore, ‘this doesn’t just suggest disorder in his business life, but also in his campaign,’ Sturdevant continued. ‘And that’s what DFLers who I talked to over the weekend were actually livid about.’

Franken should trust these analyses and answer his critics’ accusations as soon as possible.” Source: Grand Folks Herald, April 29, 2008

Lori Sturdevant is a “well respected political analyst”???

No wonder their circulation fell by 7% in the past year.

Miss Manners and Garfield are are more thought-provoking than the hash Sturdevant slings.

No offense Michael, but I think it should be “Grand Forks”, not “Grand Folks”.

Well damn. There goes the North Dakota vote.

Newton, don’t be so generous. The Strib lost 6.7% of their circ in the last SIX months, and another 6.5% in the previous six months. About 18% total in the last 18 months.

    Impressive.

    Adamski

    I stand corrected.

I like how that newspaper thinks Pawlenty should take their advice on how the state should be run. Next, we’ll ask Mr. Ed for his pick in the Kentucky Derby.
