BREAKING NEWS FROM THE STAR TRIBUNE: FRANKEN’S ACCOUNTANT INSTRUCTED TO SAY “NO COMMENT”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | May 1, 2008

The accountant isn’t talking, but DFLers across Minnesota are.

Allen Chanzis, the longtime accountant for U.S. Senate hopeful Al Franken, refused to comment Wednesday evening when asked about the tax and business irregularities that have troubled Franken’s candidacy in recent weeks.

Contacted at his Long Island apartment, Chanzis declined to discuss Franken’s statements that the accountant’s mistakes caused Franken’s taxes to go unpaid in 17 states.

‘I’ve been told to say, ‘No comment,’ Chanzis said, without saying who had instructed him to do so. Refusing to discuss any mistakes, he added: ‘I’ve been told you have the information you need.’” Source: Star Tribune, April 30, 2008

Breaking News From The Star Tribune: Franken’s “Account” Instructed To Say “No Comment”?

Perhaps whoever taught the “account” to speak, knows a few things that mere mortal Michael B. Brodkorb doesn’t!

like correct grammar? I am sure Michael was so excited typing up the 25th story of the day on the same subject that he just slipped up. or maybe his ‘a, n, & t’ keys are not working by repeatedly typing: I am a piss-ant, I am a piss-ant, I am a piss-ant….

This is like the republicans having no comment on who all got money from now convicted tax cheat and former republican national convention delegate Robert Beale.

I bet there ate a lot of republicans out there who have cashed his checks that are hoping no one notices that he has donated tens of thousands of tax-free dollars to the party over the years.

DFLers need to pull their heads out of the sand and realize this *is* a story….keep telling yourselves it’s not a big deal, two-pud.

great cartoon in the Strib today, MDE!

instead of saying “Republican bloggers,” it should have said, “Michael Brodkorb!”

MDE, I’ve heard it here before but this is why you are the top blogger in the state. Keep up the great work — your blog is invaluable and really keeps the msm on their toes.

You know if he has been told to say no comment it’s because of one of three reasons:

One, Franken is asking for confidentiallity to try to protect himself from more damage

Two, his firm is afraid of losing business and has instructed him not to say.

Three, Franken’s rational course of action is since he is blaming the accountant to protect himself is going to sue and the accountant who has talke dto a lawyer is trying to protect himself.

No matter which scenario it’s not good.

I think most accountants would have handled the tax matter the same way Al’s original accountant did. I think it’s very possible that the subsequent review has found an issue that’s not really there.

The problems with a lawsuit against Al’s accountant are first, the damages are minimal, and second, the accountant may have done nothing wrong.

    Walter;
Americans hire accountants everyday to take care of their finances and the paperwork.
You pay them to be knowledgeable in the workings of federal tax law and the different tax laws in the fifty states, so you don’t have to be.
Do you review your accountant’s work?
I’m willing to bet most Minnesotans don’t.
Most of us just sign the form and file it away.
You do know that accountants carry malpractice insurance for a reason (no lecture on tort reform) don’t you?
Outside of the Senate form, Ron, Michael or Norm have yet to produce a document that has Al Franken’s signature on it as proof that Al had any knowledge of what his accountant was doing.
Al’s not throwing his accountant under the bus, the accountant’s malpractice did.

    That’ll do Sheeple that’ll do
    PS
    MDE;
Thank you once again for breaking this non story so early in the campaign.

“Account” changed to “accountant” and not even MBB’s traditional “great catch” recognition!

Every dog has his day, but May 1st means more to workers than it does to management.

    Wade Seeker,

Perhaps May Day Baskets and May Pole Dances were dropped from the elementary school curriculum to make room for military recruiters giving demonstrations on flag etiquette preparing them for the realities of life in secondary school when military recruiters will have access to their names, or their school district will loose federal funds.

NCLB = No Child Left Behind (An equal opportunity recruiter)

Perhaps to make up for Dick Cheney, Rush Limbaugh, Tim Pawlenty, Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Norm Coleman (who was too skinny to pass his draft physical) Bill O’Reilly, Al Franken, the Bush twins, and a few others.

  13. Fred Kennedy Says:
    May 2nd, 2008 at 6:40 PM

Can’t you just see him in his bedroom in that stupid blond “Stuart Smalley” wig eating Oreos and not answering the phone or the door. Pathetic.

  14. Wade Seeker Says:
    May 2nd, 2008 at 8:31 PM

El Flouder seems to forget that NCLB was heartily endosred by none other than Fatty Kennedy, the king of drunk driving murders and still the darling of libtards.
I’m still waiting for that link to the Sinkmasters military record since service is suddenly so important to libtards.
