STAR TRIBUNE EDITORIAL: “FRANKEN’S TAX WOES UNDERCUT CAMPAIGN”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | May 1, 2008

“The news didn’t come as a total surprise — which suggests that DFLer Franken looked rather late to the playbooks for guidance. For more than a month, he’d been dealing with GOP reports of irregularities in his business finances. It was past time to get in front of that story and attempt to wrestle it into oblivion. Whether Franken’s disclosure will have that effect is not at all clear.” Source: Star Tribune, April 30, 2008

###

Nevertheless, the errors to which Franken owned up are damaging, and in a way that matters to more than just DFLers. They raise questions about competence, and about the kind of campaign Minnesotans can expect if Franken is the DFL candidate for the seat occupied by Republican Sen. Norm Coleman.

Doubts have now been planted about the former entertainer’s ability to manage his own business, or to hire appropriate accounting help to do so. Voters are also left to wonder why the tax problems weren’t spotted and corrected much earlier by a campaign that’s been in operation for more than a year. A thorough internal inspection of a candidate’s business affairs is considered routine in today’s rough-and-tumble Senate contests, and this one promises to be one of the nation’s hardest-fought.” Source: Star Tribune, April 30, 2008

    It is May 1st.

It has been written that: April showers bring May flowers.

Ya know, Michael – this editorial was NOT flattering to the GOP in general, and republiCon Ron in particular.

    Did you miss this?

“GOP state chairman Ron Carey — himself no stranger to employer tax accusations — called a news conference…”

How soon do you think the media will start playin’ “what’s good for the goose is good for the gander” and start rehasin’ republiCon Ron’s financial mismanagement, to put the Franken Affair in perspective?

How soon do you think the media will start makin’ Laurie’s business wheelings and dealings – which are fair game due to the way she shamelessly shills her senatorial hubby??!?

And how soon do you think the electorate figures out this is a blatant scheme by republiCons to shift attention away from Coleman’s LACK of record?

You opened a real pandora’s box here, Michael.

You know eightputt you’re sounding like a broken record. Instead of discussing the mistakes that Franken made attack two innocent people.

If Carey was running for an office than his filings are an issue. Is Carey running for an office. If he is than raise it. Last time I looked the answer was no.

as for Mrs. coleman it’s amazing her device hasn’t been invented before. She gets credit for making a brilliant invention. Now assuming she get royalties from the company than that is reportable income. Unlike Franken I think she is smart enough to have her income properly reported. Depending upon the time she invented the product and started receiving income (if it was this year) the appropiate tax returns won’t be too next.

So quit talking about nonissues. If you want to talk about real issues lets discuss how AL GORE TRIED TO STEAL THE STATE OF FLORIDA. You seem to keep wanting to duck that debate!!!

Coleman’s BLO and GO hair-dryer holster ad states in the smaller print:

“Norm’s not going to blow-dry my hair.”

    “…wife of U.S. Senator Norm Coleman,…”
