WCCO REALITY CHECK: “AL FRANKEN’S TAX ISSUE”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | May 1, 2008

“But that’s NOT THE WHOLE STORY.

Franken said he overpaid taxes where he lived at the time — in Minnesota and New York, and he underpaid his taxes in the 17 other states where he earned money. ‘No one likes being called a liar,’ Franken said. ‘No one likes being called a tax cheat.’” Source: WCCO, April 30, 2008

“Here’s WHAT WE DON’T KNOW.

The Franken campaign released summaries of all state taxes he paid and what he owes now, but he’s not revealing if he had unpaid taxes before then. Source: WCCO, April 30, 2008

Coleman stated that he too would release SUMMARIES [if the other candidates made income tax releases].

Hmmmmm! Two (2) peas in a pod.

Nothing like a little irresponsible speculation to keep up your smear.

Smear? Why does the DFL always refer to facts as “smear”? It would a good idea for the left to cut their loses with this guy and run someone else. Of course that would take some common sense so I don’t see that happening unless they higer a Republican consultant to help them out of this mess.

Michael, you cut ‘n pasted this:

“The Franken campaign released summaries of all state taxes he paid and what he owes now, but he’s not revealing if he had unpaid taxes before then.”

    But, ya left out this:

“And he’s not making his actual income tax returns public.

    That’s Reality Check.”

Well, well, well. Looks like we got a show down comin’ up; and reporters will be pickin’ over BOTH the Franken’s AND the Coleman’s “actual tax returns” when BOTH make ‘em public.

You keep forgettin’ that Laurie has that little Blo ‘n Go problemo.

She’s had a business partner for over 4 years, but there’s no income reported on Norm’s FEC.

Is she a bad business woman, or is she hiding income?

If the former, who has been funding this loser of a business?

If the latter, how many states does Laurie owe income in?

I can’t wait until BOTH Franken’s and Coleman’s tax returns are made public….

    Is DFLCCO giving Franken cover?

So if you live in WI and work in MN, do you pay MN or WI state income tax?

  6. Swiftee Says:
    May 1st, 2008 at 3:13 PM

That depends on whether you have incorporated yourself or not.

It also depends on where you have your corporation headquartered.

  7. Swiftee Says:
    May 1st, 2008 at 3:14 PM

Most workers (ie: employees) are not incorporated and pay income taxes to the states in which they live.

  8. Hiram Says:
    May 1st, 2008 at 4:55 PM

So if Al was incorporated in New York and/or Minnesota and corporations pay taxes where they are incorporated or “headquartered”, why is there an issue of paying taxes in other states?

  9. Flanagan Says:
    May 1st, 2008 at 5:14 PM

    Hey 2 putt,

How is it that Franken’s tax issues cause you to speculate about Norm’s?

The guy has been in politics and run campaigns for the better half of the past two decades. Don’t you think the Red Star would have found something on him by now?

Nice try attempting to cast an unwarrented shadow over Mrs. Coleman’s business endeavor…it might come as a shock to you (and your sources), but she just brought her invention to market this year. I know…my wife bought one of these items the minute it came out.

Now keep your eye on the ball…AL is the multi- millionaire, elitist, limousine liberal who re-established residency here in 2004 (although claiming to have over-paid his Minnesota taxes as far back as 2003) in order to impart upon us his vast knowledge of how we should spend OUR taxes.

And Norm is the guy that has resided here for the past 25 years and married an Irish-catholic- Minneapolis-born-and-raised girl 20-some years ago. Oh yeah, he is also one of the few U.S. Senators (Democrat or Republican) who supports his family off his Senatorial salary.

Thank you for straightening me out on which one of these I should suspect of mishandeling their taxes.

  10. Hiram Says:
    May 1st, 2008 at 7:33 PM

I was just curious. If he wants to make an issue of Al Franken’s taxes he has to be prepared to release his own. And this is a problem just about anyone can have.

  11. Surly Says:
    May 1st, 2008 at 9:12 PM

The first thing you think of when you watch Franken’s response is that it was lifted from an SNL skit about shady businessmen (ala Dan Aykroyd’s Irwin Mainway character). His phrasing, inflection, tone – we’ve all seen in it before in the context of his comedy act. All that’s missing is the laugh track. It doesn’t matter it he’s sincere or not in his explanation, a viewer cannot take him seriously because he has become what he used to parody.

    And that’s why he’s finished.

  12. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    May 1st, 2008 at 9:38 PM

“Oh yeah, he (ol’ Smokescreen) is also one of the few U.S. Senators (Democrat or Republican) who supports his family off his Senatorial salary. “

    ROFLMAO!!!

And you believe this, ’cause ol’ Smokescreen TOLD YOU??!?

He also said he was a DEMOCRAT. Always was; always would be.

    Did you believe that, too??!?

“You can fool some of the people all of the time and those are the ones you want to concentrate on.” — George aolW Bush, Washington, DC March 31, 2001

Say, Flanagan? Dumbya was talkin’ ’bout YOU!!!

  13. Surly Says:
    May 1st, 2008 at 9:58 PM

    Here’s the ad:

Juxtapose Franken’s shucking and jiving in this video with snippets from his SNL performances where he does the exact same thing. Put up a black screen with a simple question: Which one of these is a joke? Show the scenes again. Then put up the answer: They both are (it was a trick question).

  14. el presidente Says:
    May 1st, 2008 at 10:57 PM

    C’mon Flanagan,

Take a gander at the smaller print on the Blo and Go ad:

“Norm’s not going to blow-dry my hair.”

    “…wife of U.S. Senator Norm Coleman,…”

“You go on a trip with senators and you have 45 minutes and you have to be ready to go,”

I just read about the work you have been doing. I had to stop and give you kuddos. Thank goodness for this type of news outlet that battles the quasi-Pragda media in the United States. Keep on doing what you are doing. Help Minnesota vote no for the Tax Dodger. I would vote for Fraken for SNL cast member…liked that thing he did for the mirror, BUT Senator?

Best Regards to you for shedding light on a dark toad. Al Franken is a rat in DemocRat’s clothing. I will be a frequent visitor to your website. Keep on keepin’ on.
