THE HILL: “POLL SHOWS VOTERS ARE TURNED OFF BY…AL FRANKEN’S RECENT TAX PROBLEMS”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | May 5, 2008

A new SurveyUSA poll shows voters are turned off by Democratic Senate candidate Al Franken’s recent tax problems.

The 500-person survey showed 59 percent of people say Franken’s tax issues make them less likely to vote for him. Franken failed to pay for workers’ compensation insurance for his personal corporation and to pay income tax in 17 states since 2003.

Just 31 percent said the problems made no difference.

More than half, 51 percent, said Franken should withdraw from the race, while 38 percent said he should stay in.

Another SurveyUSA poll of 700 adults showed Sen. Norm Coleman (R) reopening his lead over Franken, 52-42. Franken had narrowed the gap in recent months to near-even.

Franken had the support of 67 percent of Democrats, while Coleman received 99 percent of Republicans. Franken maintained a sizable edge among independents, though, 57-33.” Source: The Hill, May 5, 2008

If “The Hill” were a co-production with The Bill O’Reilly Show perhaps one could also refer to it as: The Hill Billy.

    May 5th, 2008 at 11:05 PM

So, Franken has roughly 70 percent of democrats in a contested primary, and is running 2-1 ahead in independents versus Norm.

Can someone tell me how this is bad news for Al?

  3. Chestnut Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 5:33 AM

What’s bad news for Al? Are you serious? How bout the fact that more than half think he should call it quits? Hell, how ’bout the fact that he only gets 70 percent of his own damn party?

Norm Coleman has his party locked up, and he gets 30 percent of Democrats and 35 percent of Independents. If you want a candidate with broad appeal, Norm is your guy.

If you want a barking mad, hyper partisan, liberal jackass, I guess you can vote for Al Franken.

  4. HCDFL Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 6:23 AM

    Chestnut;
I wonder why Norm didn’t poll higher than he did?
Franken survives a month of bad press and Norm’s lead stays where it was at last month.
That should worry Team Coleman big time.
MNGOP made sure the tax story got plastered all over the news and the blogs and Norm still can’t increase his lead.
That should worry Team Coleman big time.
I would guess by now that Franken has been “scrubbed” clean.
So I doubt that Ron,Michael and Norm will be able to find any more tax problems to distract the votes this summer and fall.
That should worry Team Coleman big time.
    Chestnut, does it worry you?
    That’ll do Sheeple that’ll do

  5. Nick Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 7:24 AM

So, Chestnut. Your theory is that the 30% of democrats who are currently with Jack rather than Al are going to head to Norm’s camp after Al is endorsed and Jack drops?

Thats a fun theory, but not very likely.

  6. Chestnut Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 8:06 AM

HCDFL, why are you so worried about how Norm did in the survey. Last time I checked, 52 percent is what needs to win. He’s doing just fine.

Conversely, Al Franken performed better a couple months ago. It seems the more people get to know lying, tax cheating Al Franken, the more they oppose his candidacy.

  7. Chestnut Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 8:09 AM

Nick, read the fucking survey before showcasing your stupidity. The survey showed he gets between 27 and 30 percent of Democrats voting for Norm no matter what DFL candidate he squares off against.

My theory is that you’re dumber than a bag of hammers. That’s also a fun theory, and very likely true.

  8. A.F. Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 8:13 AM

“I’m strong enough, I’m brave enough, and dog gone it I’m almost smart enough to get away without paying taxes to be a U.S. Senator.

  9. Frank Alan Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 9:00 AM

    Nutty-

I don’t know quite what you are reading, but from Michael’s post, I took away this:

“Franken had the support of 67 percent of Democrats, while Coleman received 99 percent of Republicans. Franken maintained a sizable edge among independents, though, 57-33.”

Source: The Hill, May 5, 2008

Seems to me, that says Al has 67 percent of democrats (with the assumption being that Jack Nelson-Pallmayer has the rest) and that he holds roughly a 2-1 advantage over Coleman when it comes to independents.

So, to boil this down for you, your only hope is that the peace-activist fringe left decide to jump OVER Al and head to Norm in the general election.

Doesn’t seem all that likely to me.

  10. Chestnut Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 9:08 AM

You really are that stupid, aren’t you Frank. My goodness.

  11. Chestnut Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 9:13 AM

Here, let me ask a simple question: In a two-way race between Al Franken and Norm Coleman, what percentage of the Democrat vote does Jack Nelson-Palmayer win?

I hope that simple question helps to drill the point through that exceptionally thick, dense skull of yours.

  12. Frank Alan Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 9:19 AM

That would be a nice theory, if that was ever a question asked in the poll.

Democratic support in the party is currently split between two candidates at roughly a 2/3 to 1/3 margin. While Norm is unopposed, and as such, has the party’s full backing. Franken and Nelson-Pallmeyer are still fighting for the support of the party. When this fight is over, the party will line up behind the winner (Likely Al) and then he will have 99 percent of democrats and 2/3 of independents on his side.

You sure are a stoopid sonofabitch, aren’t you?

  13. Chestnut Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 9:20 AM

Here, I’ll try yet another way, because I’m sure you got lost on the whole “two-way race” concept.

You said (for some stupid reason): “Seems to me, that Al has 67 percent of democrats (with the assumption being that Jack Nelson-Pallmayer has the rest)”

See, that’s where you got it all wrong. Since Jack Nelson-Palmayer ISN’T ON THE BALLOT in that question, he can’t have “the rest.” NORM GOT THEM.

And the fact that Norm has 99 percent of Republicans, 27 percent of Democrats and 33 percent of Independents (some would call that broad, bi-partisan support), he wins… Even if the remaining 10 percent of Independents can hold their nose long enough to vote for Al Franken….

    And THAT isn’t very likely.

O.k., I’m done schooling Frank Alan on this issue. Seriously Frank, stop being so stupid and lazy, go read the results. Ignore that smell of smoke coming from inside your head as the retarded liberal synapses overheat. You might just save yourself this embarrassment (though, you’ll still have to live with the fact that you’re a jackass.)

  14. Chestnut Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 9:21 AM

What poll are you reading Frank? What planet published it?

You are the stupidest, most dense sonofoabitch I have ever seen.

  15. el presidente Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 9:25 AM

Nick: “Can someone tell me how this is bad news for Al?”
    ————
It is called “damage control” because Al has been damaged. When Al goes down in the polls it is an indicator of how much damage.

What the Coleman backers and the Franken backers are making noise about is the amount of damage.

Coleman backers want to puff the damage; Franken backers want to shield the damage.

Coleman backers concentrate on what they consider to be Franken’s weaknesses. The Republican National Convention will be in St. Paul soon; Franken is a celebrity.

Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer is an official candidate that has a loyal and hard-working following. [I've been on the Lake Street-Marshall Avenue Bridge.]

Mike Ciresi could attract many votes from the VERY LARGE MINNESOTA MIDDLE where a multitude of votes seem to be. These folks have not been charmed by Norm, and neither are they pleased with the news of tax and workers’ comp issues.

  16. Chestnut Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 9:26 AM

Good lord, here, dumbshit, I’ll reproduce the questions and the results for you. Go grab a reading book and practice sounding out the words:

Question 1: “Minnesota will elect a United States Senator in November 2008. If the election for United States Senator were today, and the only two candidates on the ballot were Republican Norm Coleman and DFL candidate Al Franken, who would you vote for?”

Results: Coleman 52 percent, Franken 42 percent.

    Party breakdown for Coleman:
Republicans 99 percent, Democrats 27 percent, Independents 33 percent

    Party Breakdown for Franken:
Republicans 1 percent, Democrats 67 percent, Independents 57 percent.

Do you want to see the same re-cap for a TWO-WAY RACE between Nelson-Palmeyer and Coleman?

I couldn’t give a shit less how the party breaks down currently for Franken and N-P. Regardless, 30 percent don’t plan to vote for either in the general election.

    WHY ARE YOU SOOOOOOOOOO STUPID?

  17. Frank Alan Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 9:50 AM

You are so right. I guess we should just skip the election and let one non-representative poll decide who our next senator is.

My point remains, Norm’s numbers haven’t moved an inch despite all the news of the past month. And if you truly think 27 percent of democrats are going to join Norm, you are so delirious with partisan hate, there is no use even talking to you.

  18. Tor Hershman Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 9:54 AM

If Ben Stein were a co-production with
Al Franken would it be the
    Franken-Stein Presents production?

  19. Chestnut Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 10:07 AM

And here I thought you were sitting in the corner wiping up your pee. I’m seriously laughing Frank. I swear to god, if I told you there were one sun in the sky, you’d claim there were two, and question the science for believing there were only one.

I don’t disagree that this is only one poll. But the fact is, you’re dead wrong in your ridiculous assumptions about what the poll results said.

Norm’s numbers may not have moved much, but they’re over 50 percent for the first time. Meanwhile, Franken’s numbers HAVE shrunk, and the the gulf between the two is expanding, comparative to earlier polls.

Your point has been proven false, so no, it doesn’t remain. And I don’t have to think that 27 percent of Democrats are going to vote for Norm. They told the pollster themselves that they would (not that I believe Democrats are above lying).

Speaking of delirious with partisan hate, have you looked in a mirror lately? You seem to have the syndrome that causes fools like you to mistake your emotions from fact.

You are one, dumb sonofabitch Frank.

  20. Chestnut Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 10:09 AM

That’s a funny liberal trick that Frank just pulled. Having had his entire argument de-constructed, he just changed the subject and claimed victory.

It’s like nailing Jell-O to a wall. Which is also interesting, because Jell-O and Democrats are equally spineless.

  21. el presidente Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 10:24 AM

Tor Hershman – That was good!

The dual between Chestnut and Frank Alan highlights the need for MIKE for the MINNESOTA MIDDLE.

Mike Ciresi took on Big Tobacco and as a result Minnesota gets about 200 MILLION DOLLARS ANNUALLY.

MINNESOTA MIKE can take on this NEW YORK MUD-SLINGING.

  22. Chestnut Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 10:29 AM

I think you’re right el p. Mike Cereci would have been a decent, moderate choice for the DFL to select for Senate. He’s also someone who has provided some service to the state throughout his life, unlike Al Franken. It’s too bad he quit too early. It’s too bad the Democrats would rather nominate a barking mad, hate monger.

  23. Big Kahuna Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 11:01 AM

That would be due to the fact the democRat party has been hijacked by the far left wingnuts of the party Chestnut. :)

The hate the left has for anything other than their own beliefs just cracks me up.

Frank is such a friggen idiot I cannot believe he still even shows his face here. At least he showcaases his party well.

Franken could be caught on tape killing someone and the left will still support him and tell us how pointing at Al’s murder problems must mean Coleman is scared. ;)

The best is to come in November when Angry Al will give his consession speech which I am sure will be a total hoot as you know he will be going off the handle and be very rude about the whole thing. ;)

Angry Al has the same self control of his hate as twopudd does. ;)

  24. el presidente Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 11:16 AM

I think that MINNESOTA MIKE leads a well-balanced life, and that he continues to have a lot of choices.

Mike has taken on Big Tobacco and won. The State of Minnesota gets about $200 MILLION DOLLARS ANNUALLY as a result of Mike refusing to settle, when others around him were going for the easier and the earlier settlements.

All of this stuff about VFW’s, purchasing CIB’s, licking Airborne Ranger Jump Boots, etc. I recognize as being mostly what I [with compliments to Lewis Carroll] sometimes refer to as jabberwocky.

  25. Big Kahuna Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 11:38 AM

El pres, funny you should say “Jabberwocky” somehow that seems to be a better fit to discribe the nonsense posts you place here daily. :)

Jabberwocky was written by Reverend Charles L. Dodgson whose pename was Lewis Carroll.

It has also been used as a classic mini-study of morphology of words or the internal structure of words.

A very few of my posts may occasionally be placed in a nonsense category; these posts probably were written for fun.

  28. ManGenius Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 12:50 PM

Jeebus H Keerist, I couldn’t care less how you argue the damned poles. The very fact that Al isn’t running away with this race, in what was once a solid Democrat state against a weak Republican, is the story in of itself. Double true when you see the moneys spent by each. There is no way you libs can trash Norm enough to make Al palatable to Minnesota as a whole.

And, off topic, if I see one more crybaby post about how directly connected Michael is or is not to the Republican party on the Al Tax story I’m going to lose it! If Michael were an android directly controlled by Carl Rove would that make the story any less true? Near as I can tell no one, anywhere, ever the local ultra-lib media, has disputed the story.

  29. el presidente Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 3:34 PM

To ManGenius: Al Franken was on Almanac last Friday [and rebroadcasts]. I think if you can watch a video tape of Almanac, then you probably can spare yourself from “losing it.”
    ——————————————
ManGenius: “There is no way you libs can trash Norm enough to make Al palatable to Minnesota as a whole.”

el presidente: I think that the GOP strategy has been to get NATIVE NEW YORKER [Coleman] MUD vs NATIVE NEW YORKER [Franken] MUD.

This hasn’t been like a great Lincoln-Douglas debate.

    Debate issues aren’t discussed.

This is already a mud-stained: “THROW AND GO.”

On her Blo and Go ad, Laurie Coleman states, “Norm won’t blow-dry my hair.”

On this muddy “THROW AND GO” perhaps Al Franken could also state, “Norm won’t debate and doesn’t care.”

I think that the key is in the MIDDLE and it’s not just me.

Ya, there are stories, in stories, in stories, in stories as a rose, is a rose, is a rose, is a rose.
