HERALD JOURNAL BLOG: “FRANKEN’S ACCOUNTANT DIDN’T JUST FALL OFF TURNIP TRUCK”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | May 6, 2008

“Minnesota’s DFL Senate candidate Al Franken is blaming his tax problems on his accountant. Franken has been claiming his accountant, Allen Chanzis, doesn’t know the law very well, and advised him not to pay those other states’ taxes where Franken earned income. However, Chanzis is a partner in the firm Wlodinguer, Erk & Chanzis, a firm that specializes in entertainment industry accounting.” Source: Herald Journal Blog, May 6, 2008

“It takes a willing suspension of disbelief for us to take Franken’s excuses at face value any longer, she said. DFLers better hurry up and decide what to do about Franken.” Source: Herald Journal Blog, May 6, 2008

MBB & the DFL’er who wrote the following have VERY SIMILAR positions about FILMING at GOP Conventions:

“But if Franken gets the nod and his tax irregularities sink him in the general election, few will then be praising JNP’s unwillingness to raise the matter now.” Gavin Sullivan’s Page, May 2008

Oh my, too bad for Frankenfraud. How will the libs defend him now?

Oops, I forgot that they haven’t been able to defend him yet, so why would they start?

Al is going round and round the drain. When will he be done?

Falling off the turnip truck may imply rural unsophistication, or being hopelessly naive.

Roz Kohls is a capable writer, and although she operates in a large and rural congressional district she probably didn’t just use the words “turnip” and “truck” by accident any more that I would spell her name upon hearing it – raws coals.

“Carey, who’s running for reelection this week as party chairman, blamed the leak of Tostenson’s memo on political enemies within the Republican Party who are out to get him on the eve of the Republican state central committee meeting. “

Carey’s claiming paranoia, while Franken’s only blaming bad professional advice.

If the bootlickers rippin’ Franken ripped republiCon Ron, they would be consistent.

But, they’re not, and they’re demonstratin’ again, the consistent inconsistency of the GreedOverPrinciples party.

How republiCon Ron can claim Franken’s problems disqualify Franken to be elected, but his own problems allow him to run a major political party, only go to show GOPer hypocrisy – which will be a major issue in this campaign, especially when the GOPer candidate is that noted RINO, Senator Smokescreen.

Michael – based on reading Roz’s post it sounds like she might have been referring to this post when she talked about what a “Scott County accountant” had to say on the issue.

    http://www.ladieslogic.com/2008/05/accounting-accountability.html

It needs to be clarified that I was QUOTING a CPA. I am not, nor have I ever been an accountant. The article that I quoted was posted by a CPA on The American Thinker.

TwoPutt – so then those who ripped both Franken and Carey are what?

    LL – “consistent”.

They’re also in the minority of the Minority Party.

Watching republiCon Ron, at a podium, demanding Franken answer questions was surreal.

Here’s some cut ‘n pastes from a Strib Article, last June:

Carey didn’t explain why the retirement money wasn’t deposited promptly.

“There seemed to be some gray areas as to what was the requirement,” Carey said. Asked to explain the gray areas, he said, “I really would prefer not to get into the weeds on something like that.

“We investigated what the requirements were and made sure we were immediately in full compliance with that,” he said.

Carey did not directly respond to Tostenson’s claim that the employees’ money was used temporarily to cover party expenses.

    And, there’s this:

In his memo, Tostenson also urged the party leaders to hold “those responsible for any illegal activity accountable, to minimize the Party’s political and legal liability.”

He wrote that suspected illegal activities were brought to Carey’s attention numerous times since May 2006. “He asked me to wait until after the election, at which time he assured me he would correct the numerous issues,” Tostenson wrote.

After the November election, he said, Carey gave him permission to send documents to the party attorney supporting his claims. Two weeks later Carey told Tostenson that they were cutting his pay by 40 percent, which Tostenson believed was retaliation.

Carey did not directly answer questions about the alleged retaliation.

So, here we have republiCon Ron, not answering questions a year ago, now demanding someone else answer questions.

    What a hypocrite.

  10. Man Genius Says:
    May 7th, 2008 at 12:38 PM

Ahhh, so Carey may have issues too. That makes Al clean and pure!

Glad we now have that issue out of the way.

  11. TwoPuttTommy Says:
    May 7th, 2008 at 1:12 PM

“That makes Al clean and pure!”

Nope – that just means republiCon Ron lacks any credibility to rip Franken for it.

And lest ye forget, it’s been republiCon Ron driving this story.

    May 7th, 2008 at 1:57 PM

A Tom Swiftee from June 2007?!?!

I would really prefer not to get into the weeds with something like that! smoked Ron.

You’re still carrying on about Ron Carey? He’s not relevant to this post either. It’s irrelevant here, and it’s irrelevant here: http://www.minnesotademocratsexposed.com/2008/05/06/townhall-al-frankens-accountant/

Geez, Tommy, you sure are on hypocritical, subject changing, moral relativity peddling GAS BAG!

Just checking because there are more than a few of us (whose names ARE NOT Carey) who have been writing about Al’s tax troubles who were also critical of things that Chairman Carey did.

HOWEVER, Ron Carey is NOT running for Senate. Al Franken is. That is where Michael is right and you again are wrong…..

  15. el presidente Says:
    May 7th, 2008 at 6:44 PM

However, Ron Carey is pulling the strings, and/or chains, and/or leashes, of the people who are running for office.

He gives his blessing to some, and he tries to put the hex on others.

Repeated for the benefit of el presidente.

George Soros, Dan Rather, Bill Clinton, Jane Fonda, Ted Turner, Skip Humphrey, Oprah Winfrey, Britney Spears, Jesse Ventura are not running for elected office, however, I hear that Elvis has just left the building, and could possibly be interested.

Repeated for the sales benefit of James Janos’ latest book.
