J. GAUTHIER: THE MYSTERY OF WHO SIGNED FOR FRANKEN’S MAIL
By Michael B. Brodkorb | May 9, 2008
When the story broke that on Minnesota Democrats Exposed that Al Franken hadn’t paid his workers compensation premiums for three years, Team Franken denied it. It wasn’t until the State of New York made it clear that not only hadn’t Franken paid his premiums, but that someone had apparently blown off more than a dozen letters – including a signed, certified letter telling Franken to get workers’ compensation insurance and also letter informing Franken of a $25,000 fine.
Team Franken’s argument was that the Frankens had moved out of their New York apartment to Minnesota in 2005 and that must have been why Franken hadn’t gotten any of his mail from the State of New York and that he just had never seen the letters. Franken has repeated this story on a number of occasions, as have members of his campaign staff.
A fair amount of traffic is going around that there may be some more explanation about where Franken’s mail ended up and in particular, some fairly interesting theories about the mysterious certified letter that Al Franken and his campaign insist he never received.
Central to the Franken workers’ compensation scandal is what happened to the more than a dozen letters sent to Franken’s personal residence in New York and who actually signed for the certified letter that was received at his apartment. It would seem that if these letters are found, or at the least, determining who has these letters, this story may reemerge in this campaign.
The identity of J. Gauthier – the mysterious figure who printed his name on a certified mail piece and then signed it with an odd handwritten script, has been a key unanswered question in this saga. Franken’s folks have consistently remained silent on this angle, leading one to contemplate all sorts of possibilities.
The chatter is suggesting that particular interest might involve some telltale signs on the certified letter itself. Some other documents might provide more answers or provoke more questions about where the letters ended up, who had them, who saw them, and who has them now.
Please check back to Minnesota Democrats Exposed for more information on this developing story.

Michael – give it up.
Lady Logician and others are correctly pointing out that the longer you drag this out, the longer Chairman Carey is open for discussion.
There are issues to be discussed in this race – you’re focusing on the lowest common denominator.
Enough, already – give it up.

The matter must be resolved now that it’s come to our attention. Michael, your post is intriguing. Unlike Monitha Benison, this Gauthier guy appears to be a genuine person. And like Chanzis, Gauthier may be Al Franken’s “partner in crime”.
A candid explanation is in order.
Does Al Franken have a dark side that nobody knows? Why is he not defending Chanzis, with whom he had a business relationship? Is he afraid of the appearance of criminality? Are we to believe Gauthier never told Franken what mail he received AND SIGNED FOR? Angry Al is earning his nickname.

“A candid explanation is in order.”
Hey, I agree.
So – when is republiCon Ron gonna give one???!?

If MBB/MDE-IRS knows something do they have an obligation to the Minnesota public to disclose it, so that debate on the issues can begin in a timely manner?
Or can MBB/MDE-IRS just string things out as long as they want, and then drop a bombshell thereby insuring that an MBB/MDE-IRS supported candidate will win, thereby stiffing the Minnesota Public of the right to hear substantive debate on the issues?

As a liberal, Al will more than likely want to raise our taxes.
It is an issue of “substance” when he avoids the payment of his own taxes.
Why is that so hard for certain people to comprehend?
Liberals have double standards.

Willow,
So if MBB/MDE-IRS knows something, that will justify them stringing something out, in order to avoid discussing issues of Norm’s voting record and stance, thereby stiffing the Minnesota PUBLIC of the RIGHT TO HEAR SUBSTANTIVE DEBATE/DISCUSSION on the ISSUES (Minnesota US Senate).
Al “will more than likely” want to raise our taxes.
Norm ALREADY HAS RAISED THE TAX BILL AND HAS CHARGED IT.
It is called the WAR IN IRAQ.
I don’t think that the PUBLIC would be subjected to this KIND of TRASH TALK if Mike Ciresi were the presumptive candidate.

I agree it was an issue of substance Willow. The funniest part about this, Willow, Michael is not referring to Al’s paying of or not paying of taxes in this post. This thing has drug on for so long, and Michael has posted about it so much, it all gets mixed together and poor Willow doesn’t even know what scandal she/he is referring to here.
were any new facts presented in this blog post? I can’t even tell anymore with MDE, but I figured since this hasn’t been blogged about in a day or two, that there was new information presented? or not?

We have two issues here. The first is the tax issue which is good to have a discussion about and certainly will be discussed in general election in the manner Fishsticks mentioned in a recent article – why is the tax code so confusing even the tax advocates can’t figure it out. The second is – who are these people? What is their involvement? How are we supposed to believe there was no criminal intent if the only 3 figures to be named – Jay Gauthier, Allen Chanzis, and Monitha Benison – all maintain a Watergate-style wall of silence between the public and themselves? Where is the candor?

And again Frankenfraud is silent. Good thing the repubs are nominating a patriotic, good man. Norm will handle pathetic Al with ease this election and sent him back to NY.

Monitha, Monica, Monifa ? Well, they seem to have three (3) syllables.
The Republicans are nominating a “patriotic, good man” who is fairly silent about not passing his selective service draft board physical?
Rush Limbaugh didn’t seem to pass his either, nor professional football player Jack Kemp.
