Thanks, Michael!

Say, Chestnut? It's pretty easy for a guy with Michael's talents to figure out if someone was posting with multiple handles. Michael says it's against his policies to allow that.

The Legislative leaders and the Gov. have reached a preliminary agreement on the budget shortly after 2:00 p.m.

Higher education in Minnesota takes about an $18,000,000.00 hit, just at a time when nationally a long awaited increase in a GI Bill for Veterans benefits seems to be finally making headway.

If the less affluent want to afford to go to college or the University, one way might be via Iraq.

As KT wrote, "Unfortunately for us, we have to weigh every candidate for office,..."

UNFORTUNATELY? weigh every candidate for office?

A weigh-in.

[New York, non-carpetbagging, non-enlisting] Norm apparently went on a crash diet and did not pass the draft board physical.

There are some things that it seems that you don't have to worry about: your son's abortion, your daughter breaking a leg downhill skiing in the flatlands of the Dakota's, the problems created by a village massacre in South Vietnam led by Lieutenant Rush Limbaugh.

C'mon KT, I understand what you've written but, Jesse Ventura is physically a more imposing man than Norm.

If Jesse Ventura starts to needle Norm for being a chickenhawk, and also needles the long-haired Norm for running after the tumbleweed and trying to smoke it, the Piper - not just Planned Parenthood - may also want to be paid.

Hey Tommy/Leroy,
So, in Post 43 when you said: <i>"so he had really only been back in Minnesota for four years before he carpetbagged his way onto the ballot,"</i> you discounted the other 3-4 years he held public office and the lifetime that he called Minnesota his home?

Good to know that you can selectively discount hard facts to make the world work in your stupid, gas bag, retarded little head.

You this stupid naturally? Or do you practice with a squad?

Wrestling aside, when calling Jesse Ventura a "carpet bagger"... a ridiculous attempt to box him in with a no talent ass clown like Al Franken ... the most obvious fact Leroy/Tommy got wrong, was this:

<i>"and he continued to do commentary for WCW until 1994. He ran for governor in 1998, so he had really only been back in Minnesota for four years before he carpetbagged his way onto the ballot.</i>

Here's a dose of reality:
- Jesse always called Minnesota his home
- Jesse was Mayor of Brooklyn Park from 1991 to 1995 (giving him substantially more gov't and leadership experience than Al Fraken, the carpet bagger from New York City.)
- Between his time and mayor and his run for governor, Ventura was a volunteer high school football coach.

In other words, he was living in and serving Minnesota for over longer than "4 years" before what Leroy/Tommy considers a random run for governor...

And I'm no huge fan of Jesse, but Al Franken couldn't carry his jock strap in terms of service to others.

Just because someone serves in the military does not mean that everyone who enlists was actually making tactical decisions and managing a battlefield. There are some who did, and some have done everything including running to Canada to hide from service.
Unfortunately for us, we have to weigh every candidate for office an their entire history and positions, not just who served and who did not. If you are just picking one or two parts of someones life to help you decide if they should raise your taxes, send your son to war or pay Planned Parenthood for your daughters abortion, you are truly ruining the chances for the US to have qualified leaders who can lead from their heart and minds and not act like a tumble weed blowing across the Dakota's.

Sorry, Chestnut. I guess I believed the Wikipedia page for the time line on Jesse, and, indeed, I should have deferred to a mouth breather like you for a more historical timeline on the comings and goings of professional wrestling.

I mean, after all, who needs facts? They just get in the way of a good story.

Ventura continues in paragraph 14: "I think we should have a voluntary military until we take the vote to go to war," he said, "and the minute that vote is taken to go to war the draft should immediately be implemented at that point."
----------------------------------
The concept is interesting in that the burden of the Iraq War is born by a few.

It seems to me that many things would have to be in place in order for this concept to effectively work.

Right now with a volunteer, mostly male military some national public policy questions that a draft touches, do not seem to have to be directly answered.

I think that this is why, in part, Cheney can carry on with the answers that he has given.

It is a volunteer military. They (the military) VOLUNTEERED to do this job.

The Franken concept is pretty much destroyed with Ventura in the race. Jesse has a consistancy to him that allows his critisism of opponents in a way that a typical politician.

Hey Leroy, are there any liberals who have any fucking idea what they are talking about? You're surely not one of them.

Jesse wrestled until 1987 (not 1984). After he was in Predator, he color commented for the WCW, but only for a few years before retiring from pro-wrestling... long before 1994 (as you ignorantly proclaimed). He was Mayor of Brooklyn Park from 1991 to 1995 (meaning he has more experience in government than that asshole Al Franken), and was a volunteer football coach between then and his run for governor in 1998 (you got one thing right).

He pretty much always called Minnesota his home.

Conversely, Al Franken has never served anyone but himself. He's a no-talent ass clown.

After he was in Predator, he color commented for the WCW, but only for a few years before retiring from pro-wrestling… long before 1994 (as you ignorantly proclaimed).

He’s a no-talent ass clown.

Chestnut-

Nice try. Jesse's final wrestling match was in September of 1984, and he continued to do commentary for WCW until 1994. He ran for governor in 1998, so he had really only been back in Minnesota for four years before he carpetbagged his way onto the ballot.

El p, you may want to out and get a clue. You're clearly operating without one. I've never doubted Tommy's veteran status. I have doubted his ability to feed himself, however.

... Nick, Ventura returned to the state and was a volunteer football coach for many years.

Franken told fart jokes, became a renowned asshole, and then returned to the state to file papers to run for office.

Am I mistaken, or was the WWE located outside Minnesota?

Seems to me, Jesse also left Minnesota to find fame and fortune, really making his carpetbagger claims ring hollow.

His critiques of Norm, on the other hand...

Chestnut: "When the name Tommy Johnson appears next to anything on line or in print, the reader can be pretty sure that its unsubstantiated ignorant...that's what the Tommy Johnson name stands for."
--------------------------------
It seems to me that Chestnut, Swiftee, Big Kahuna, have tried to deny Veteran status of TwoPuttTommy, and sing praises to Veterans.

Now they seem to be important but, not quite THAT important.

Thankfully, the Democrats in Washington, DC are expecting a newer and better GI [Veterans only?] Education Bill to pass shortly.

I've never said having military service is important, el p. It's nice, sure, I suppose. But I've never assessed anyone's qualification for elected office or their ability to make national security decisions on their military service or lack thereof.

I have, however, pointed out the stupidity of using the "chicken hawk" charge... Such stupid, substance-free name calling betrays a belief that only those with military service (just 8 percent of Americans -- including me, Tommy, Mr. Ventura, et. al.) can make decisions or have opinions pertaining to use of the military. This is not just stupid, its un-American... as the Constitution puts civilians in charge of the military.

These days not only younger male candidates are scrutinized, but also their female partners (wives) [or vice-versa] and possibly their adult children and/or family members as Jesse Ventura did during his interview with Minnesota Public Radio (MPR).

It seems that military service is important to Big Kahuna, Swiftee, Chestnut, from the posts that some of them they write.

Norm Coleman didn't pass his draft board's physical. At that time he was an anti-war protestor and it has been written that he went on a crash diet, and was deemed too skinny for military service.

I've seen Ventura needle politicians who did not serve during the Vietnam era, when they could have. The needling of Coleman and Franken has already begin.

Bill Clinton was a draft dodger who never served in a war zone. His Vice President was a man whose daddy pulled strings so he could go to a war zone without the risk of having to fight in it... Were the same questions asked?

Paragraph 11: "Ventura said he didn't run for a second term as governor because of his wife's health problems. He cited property tax reform, light rail transit and forcing Democrats and Republicans to work together as his gubernatorial achievements."

Paragraph 12: "He said if he were elected to the Senate he would work to abolish the federal income tax and replace it with a national sales tax. He also said he would make it more difficult for the nation's leaders to commit to war."

Paragraph 13: "Ventura said he would require lawmakers to designate members of their families to serve. He would also bring back the draft."
---------------------
When 10.5% of Democrats in Congress (2008) are military veterans, and 13.1 % of Republicans in Congress (2008) are military veterans, and VP Dick Cheney is not a military veteran, and GWB did not serve in a war zone, questions are bound to be asked.

Back on topic, I think it is funny that Michael is now looking to the last politician who beat Norm Coleman for his views on Coleman's current opponent.

Remember when Norm lost to Jesse?

Yes. Now, when he loses to Franken, he will only have to lose to a cop and and Indian, and he will have lost to all of the Village people.

Chris: "I...but you surely weren't trained like most veterans I know."

el presidente: Interesting. Proceed to write about that "training." I'd like to read about what you think that training was like.

Chris: "Most veterans I know are intelligent, polite and logical people."

el presidente: Keep in mind that you probably saw them when they were not in a war zone.
------
Chris: "Maybe you should go back to kindergarten and learn something."

el presidente: I think that it would help if you would be much more specific about what you think that something is that you think should be learned.

I think that if you sat in on a kindergarten class in three or four social settings you might see the vast differences among the different economic classes in Minnesota.
-----
Chris: "Better yet I know of a good drill sargent [sergeant] who can give you the proper attitude adjustment."

el presidente: The cinemas show it that way, therefore it must not be make-believe?

----------------

The story connected to this was an 18 paragraph Minnesota Public Radio story by a former Governor [Ind], of the State of Minnesota, criticizing the current Senator [Rep], of the State of Minnesota, a front-running Senate candidate [DFL] in the state of Minnesota, the fact that former Governor may declare himself a candidate near the end of July, and the fact that the former Governor may be hawking his book.

Two Putz,

How many fricking handles are you going to have??? My gosh, you change your name more than most leading ladies on daytime television. You have no business talking to anyone about posting their names and hometowns since you've posted under three different names in the same thread before.

It's pretty amazing that you would call chestnut hateful (or anyone else for that matter) considering the crap you call people all the time. I'm surprised you haven't been banned from here yet.

I don't know whether you're a veteran or not, but you surely weren't trained like most veterans I know. Most veterans I know are intelligent, polite and logical people. You are none of those. Maybe you should go back to kindergarten and learn something. Better yet - I know of a good drill sargent who can give you the proper attitude adjustment.

I must really get under your skin Tommy. I mean, how many times, and under how many of your pseudonyms have I completely trashed your arguments and demonstrated just how absolutely full of (Biden) you are?

What's sad is that you actually do sign your name to the ridiculous (Biden) you pull out of your (Obama). What's sad is that some fat, worthless jerk off like you continues to post such ignorant, hate-filled (Biden) on his own blog, and then on here.

You're funny Tommy. Half retarded, but funny.

It sounds like a lot of Chestnut/Swiftee/Big Kahuna posts bantering about Combat Infantry Badges, Hopkins VFW veterans, and other things if you have happened to make note of the things that you have been putting in electronic writing.

MBB put it out on MDE. However, it could be MRE Minnesota Republicans Exposed [not Meals Ready to Eat, rations, an upgrade of K-rations] or MIE Minnesota Independents Exposed.

Percentage of Republicans in the 2008 Congress who are veterans: 13.1%; Democrats: 10.5%

Vice-President Dick Cheney did not serve in the military. His latest deferment didn't seem to be in connection with college and seemed to match the pregnancy of his wife. It seems to me that Cheney called it "other priorities."

Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage, etc. did not serve. There is a list of those who did and did not serve on the internet. I think that it is interesting.

Chestnuts, keep posting - the more you do, the more reasonable people will vote democrat.

Personally, I consider myself an American, first and formost.

A veteran, second.

A democrat, third.

But you republicans sure make it tough, to be a democrat third....why anyone would want to be like the hateful people you are like, is beyond me....

Tommy Johnson, formerly TwoPuttTommy, but still a goddam gas bag, asks if I care to postulate what percentage of each party are Democrats.

Yes.

Let's start with some raw facts (I'm sure I lost Tommy at this point, but I'll labor on)...

According to the census, there are about 24 million military veterans in the U.S. ... about 8 percent of the population, which is about 300 million.

Of the general population, the party registration is relatively even, though there are more registered Democrats... by about 37 to 32 percent.

This means that there are about 96 million Republicans and 111 million Democrats.

So, how do those in the military break down. A recent poll by Military Times indicated that only 13 percent of those in the military consider themselves to be Democrats, and 57 percent consider themselves Republicans. The conservative leanings of service members is consistent with recent elections where the vast majority (70 percent and better) of service members voted Republican.

Now, political leanings may change to some degree after service, as veterans age and change their views. It's fair to say that this has a minor effect, however... and that means about 3.2 million Veterans are Democrats, compared to 13.7 million who are Republicans.

So what percent of each party are comprised of Veterans? about 2.9 percent of Democrats are Veterans, compared to 14.2 percent of Republicans are Veterans.

You asked, gas bag.

Chestnut, the question you should be asking, is if 70% of the active vote republican, why does that percentage change when active becomes veteran?

Seriously - why is that?

I do know that about 70 percent of the Armed forces, perhaps a bit more, consistently vote Republican. That's pretty much why Democrats work so hard to have the military vote thrown out...

That's really not the point.

The point is that that civilians direct the military in this country. And so it is absurd to call ridiculous names such as "chicken hawk" in order to marginalize those who see the wisdom of using military force, even if they themselves never served.

If a chicken hawk is disqualified from making judgments about the use of armed force, then what qualifications do a group of chicken chicken's have?

I don't know what percentage and/or number of Democrats, Republicans, Independents, have and have not been in the military.

I do know that there are more males than females, however, that is changing.

Vice-President Dick Cheney did not serve in the military. His latest deferment didn't seem to be in connection with college and seemed to match the pregnancy of his wife. It seems to me that Cheney called it "other priorities."
