FRANKEN HAS HIGHEST NEGATIVES OF ANY SENATE CANDIDATE IN LATEST POLL FROM THE STAR TRIBUNE

By Michael B. Brodkorb | May 19, 2008

“But the DFLers have their own problems. Franken, a former ‘Saturday Night Live’ star known nationally for his satirical attacks against Republicans, goes into the summer with 39 percent of all poll respondents saying they have an unfavorable impression of him. That’s higher than the 33 percent who view him favorably.

‘I think the country is pretty twisted, but I don’t think you’re going to get an actor to fix things,’ said Sean Sullivan, a 39-year-old independent from Maplewood.

Franken’s recent tax problems also appear to have taken a toll. ‘If he can’t handle his own affairs, then I don’t think he can handle the Senate,’ said Gloria Martin, a retired nurse from Duluth.” Source: Star Tribune, May 19, 2008

The e-mail that follows is a glaring example of the rank hypocrisy that infects the Republican Party. While Sen. Coleman is championing an override of George W. Bush’s veto of the Farm Bill, local Republicans are still castigating seven Republican legislators (five House and two Senate members) who supported an override of Tim Pawlenty’s veto of the Transportation Bill. It appears that it is perfectly acceptable for Sen. Coleman to support an override of a Republican president’s veto because the senator believes it is in the best interests of his constituents to do so. But when seven Republican legislators vote to override a Republican governor’s veto because they believe it is in the best interests of their constituents to do so, they are ripped to shreds by Minnesota Democrats Exposed and denied endorsements by their local party activists because of that one vote.

    All,

I don’t have to tell you how excited everyone at team Coleman is that we passed a farm bill with a veto-proof majority, and we may have a chance
to take the veto override vote as soon as late next week. Thank you for all of your help over the last couple of years. You have been a real
partner in this process, and without your advocacy, Senator Coleman wouldn’t have been able to take your concerns to the Senate Ag Committee. You have been instrumental in assisting us prepare for farm bill hearings, put together our farm bill requests, fight for good
amendments and against bad ones, and in defending Minnesota’s farmers on and off the Senate floor.

    Thanks again,

    Tony

You sound shocked to find partisan blinders to hypocrisy on here…

To the post, I can’t wait to see Norm campaign on a platform consisting entirely of bragging about how his negatives are slightly lower than Frankens.

    Say, Jim?

Of course ol’ Smokescreen supports overridin’ Bush; didn’t ya know ol’ Smokescreen’s really just a RINO?

Maybe a RIno but better than a lieing hypocrite like Angry Al.

I just figured out Flounder that you’re the loudmouth at the VFW or legion in hopkins that tried to tell me what a great pres Carter was, after I got done laughing I really had the giggles when I found you were serious.

It’s no wonder you like Al, both of are still trying to do standup comedy.

So Jim, are you going to call Coleman a rubber stamp for Bush with the same breath you criticize him for helping to defeat a Bush veto?

Here’s another thing: State Republicans opposed the DFL’s multi-billion dollar transportation tax hike that Pawlenty vetoed. National Republicans, conversely, supported the Farm Bill Bush vetoed.

Personally, support for the Farm bill is mis-placed. It’s time to end about 50 percent of ag subsidies, and all of those aimed at corn, sugar beats and ethanol.

Still, your attempt to find irony is unsuccessful.

CHESTNUT – Who’s looking for “irony”? I found hypocrisy – not irony! If you recall, much of the hysteria (some of it originating from this website)about the Transporation Bill override was about Republican legislators not sticking by their Republican governor! All of the seven Republicans who voted for the override did so because they genuinely believe that the Transportaion Bill was of significant benefit to their consituents specifically and/or Minnesota generally. Party loyalty, said The Seven,is important but there are times that doing what is best for your constituents trumps party loyalty.

I have no doubt that Sen. Coleman would say they same thing about his plan to vote for the override of Bush’s veto of the Farm Bill. I don’t hear a peep from Republicans about Sen. Coleman “deserting” or “thumbing his nose” at his President or party. That’s hypocrisy not irony.
