STAR TRIBUNE: CIRESI “LEFT OPEN THE POSSIBILITY OF REENTERING RACE…”
By Michael B. Brodkorb | May 19, 2008
Team Franken has to upset that the Star Tribune even polled about a potential Ciresi candidacy.
###
“Ciresi’s ‘intense interest’
Ciresi, in an e-mail Sunday, said the poll shows that ‘Senator Coleman can be beat.’ He also left open the possibility of reentering the race later, saying, ‘I continue to watch the race with intense interest, but it is not my present intention to reenter.’” Source: Star Tribune, May 19, 2008

In a sense, Mike Ciresi’s “Legacy” has already entered the race.
Mike make it possible for $200 million dollars to be DEPOSITED to PEOPLE of the STATE OF MINNESOTA EVERY YEAR.
Mike fought Big Tobacco and won.
A $200 million here, a $200 million there – I think that perhaps a poll should be taken about how much money comes into the State of Minnesota annually because of the settlement with BIG TOBACCO.
MIKE CIRESI is an important part of MINNESOTA HISTORY.

EP, where does that $200 million come from each year? Could it be from people buying tobacco, many who can’t afford it in the first place? People who are still suffering from the addiction? And you think we should elect someone who managed to negotiate a deal that allow companies to continue to see a deadly product just because it puts some of that money into the states pot? That is sick dude.

What teachable OPPORTUNITIES [few weeks] you present for the PEOPLE OF MINNESOTA.
[Four (4) questions, ending with the sentence "That is sick dude."]
Mike Ciresi has helped to shape MINNESOTA HISTORY and has done wonderful things for welfare of MINNESOTA’S CHILDREN not only via the settlement with Big Tobacco, but also with the public/private foundations such as the Foundation for Children.

ep, on the backs of tobacco addicts. Yes, truely something a liberal would be proud of but not me. No amount of “charity” makes up for the damage his settlement continues to inflict on these addicts.

At the time the settlement was HUGE, but more importantly ALL THIS INFORMATION came out.
Ciresi: “…The tobacco companies were targeting our children,” “They can’t do that anymore.”
In 2003 Govenor Tim Pawlenty emptied $1,100,000,000.00 from the settlement’s “TOBACCO PREVENTION TRUST FUND” to help balance Minnesota’s 2003 budget deficit.
————-
How many tobacco addicts do you think could have been helped in 2003 with $1.1 billion dollars from the “tobacco prevention trust fund.”
It is now the year 2008.
————————–
What teachable OPPORTUNITIES you present for the PEOPLE OF MINNESOTA, and possibly yourself.
Governor Pawlenty signed a statewide smoking ban, but drained the “tobacco prevention trust fund” of $1.1 billion in 2003.
It seems to me that is could be similar to Nancy Reagan’s LOW COST “just say no” policy.
——————————————
Mike Ciresi’s Law Firm is the only law firm in the nation with a Public Foundation, which Mike chairs.
Between 1999 and 2005, its grants totaled $7,200,000.00. It’s biggest beneficiaries are the St. Paul and Minneapolis Schools.
—————————————-
Please reword your four questions in light of the aforementioned information.
You may want to ask Governor Paw Claws about 2003 and the justification [precedent?] [more?] that he may have legally/illegally set.

1. I hope Mike Ciresi gets back in the race. I think he will inject real debate into the senatorial race. I don’t like Ciresi but he will raise the political level compared to that clown Al.
2. The tobacco lawsuit is nothing to brag about. It is flawed a hundred ways to Sunday.
3. Where did the settlement money go? It was supposed to pay for the extra healthcare costs due to smokers but all we got was anti-smoking billboards and commercials and one damned well paid law firm.
4. Ciresi became stinking rich, we have anti-smoking TV adds. Yep, great Minnesota History there.
5. Well the settlement did make Minnesotan’s health care costs go down. Oh, wait…
