MN GOP PRESS RELEASE: “REPUBLICAN PARTY OF MINNESOTA CALLS ON AL FRANKEN TO PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION ON STATUS OF HIS TAX FILINGS”
By Michael B. Brodkorb | May 21, 2008
St. Paul- Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey today called on Al Franken and his accountants to explain how detailed listing of Franken’s financial dealings from as far back as 1975 can be listed on his Senate Financial Disclosure Report (http://www.mngop.com/pdfs/franken_disclosure_2007.pdf ), but Franken and his accountant now claim they can’t produce information about Franken’s tax records during the years leading up to 2002.
According to the Star Tribune on April 30, 2008, “Asked about the taxes before 2003, campaign manager Andy Barr said Franken was unable to reconstruct his tax situation prior to 2003 because those years’ financial records weren’t complete. Chanzis, Barr said, ‘had some stuff, but you have to have everything together and it just happens that [the accountants] were able to go back to 2003.’
“If Al Franken and his accountant can provide extensive information on their Senate Financial Disclosure Report regarding Franken’s business activities dating back to 1975, then they should be able to provide detailed information that will allow them to acknowledge whether Franken earned income in other states. Furthermore, they should be able to prove whether they have or have not filed corporate and/or personal tax returns anywhere else they were required to in the United States. Franken’s company has been incorporated since 1991, and since then, he has given dozens upon dozens of speeches that, according to published reports, he was paid at least $25,000 per speech to deliver. It is not credible for Franken to claim that he and his accountant just don’t have enough detail to prove whether or not he has lived up to his legal tax obligations anywhere else in America,†Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey said.
Carey said that detailed records on Franken’s Senate report underscored that residuals, merchandise rights, royalties and other agreements dating back to 1975 were not only intact, but still in force, providing Franken with income that would need to be calculated and reported as either corporate or personal income on an annual basis.

Franken acknowledges financial activity in the following years on his personal financial disclosure:
1975, 1976, 1977, 1983, 1990, 1991, 1994, 1996, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007

Ron Carey, demanding someone answer questions about finances.
No shame. None.
May 21st, 2008 at 6:36 PM
Yeah. Didn’t Tommy ask him to do that with the financial scandal within the republican party, only to be rebuffed and told that he didn’t deserve an answer to his question.
I hope Franken does the same thing. Give Ron Carey what he asks for the moment Ron Carey opens his books fully to the media over his grossly negligent bookkeeping, both with the party, and with the Autism Center.
Until that happens (Which we all know it won’t) I suggest that Franken is well within his rights to tell Ron Carey to Suck It.
May 21st, 2008 at 7:42 PM
Well, I tried. I really did. But republiCon Ron told me that he was only takin’ questions from the “credentialed” media, and that he’d answer my questions afterwards.
Which caught the “credentialed” media’s attention.
Then, Ron didn’t stick around to answer my question, so I followed Ron and Mark Drake, over to the Press Dungeon, er, ‘scuse me, “rooms”, at the Capital. And Ron still wouldn’t take my question.
Hey – some enterprising reporter asked me what question Ron wouldn’t take, and the next thing ya know, I’m referred to as a blogger in a Strib Story about Ron’s shoddy paperwork.
Maybe next time, Ron will take a blogger’s question.

“… and it just happens that [the accountants] were able to go back to 2003.”
Bullshit. All the “stuff” gets put together each year at tax time. The “stuff” is together, but this candidate is full of shit.
Tommy, I know you have a hard on for Ron Carey, but seriously, MN GOP spokesperson aside, do you buy this shit from Franken’s camp?
May 21st, 2008 at 7:58 PM
Besides, just to 2003? Bullshit. It’s standard accounting practice to keep business records and income tax documents for 7 to 10 years. If he’d been tossing stuff out from before 1998, I’d give him benefit of the doubt, but this is complete, utter bullshit.
May 21st, 2008 at 8:27 PM
So is Ron Carey when he expects Al Franken to do a better job of accounting than he does with the party’s finances.
Hey Chestnut, don’t you believe that Ron Carey should be willing to answer the same questions he is asking?

So Flounder wants the GOP to to things that Angry AL is afraid to do because it will show that Franken fraud and his libtard pals are right !
“The rich don’t pay taxes” ( the rich hollyweird libtards that is)
May 21st, 2008 at 8:35 PM
I wish I could have been there to hear Ron say, “Sorry Flounder, your too much of a “Cheney”Head for me to anser a question from you”

RON CAREY is not running for senate or anything. Trust me, most people of MN don’t know who Ron Carey is or care . But all or most of MN know Al and Norm and right know Al’s got a lot of explaining to do.
Franken for senate…. not so much.

Sorry for the typo in know (3rd sentence) I meant now.. so I typed again. Give me a break, I’m new to this blog stuff.

Lisa: “Ron Carey is not running for senate or anything.”
———————————
Perhaps, however, Ron Carey, Chairperson for the Minnesota GOP has been “RUNNING” some of the interference for Norm Coleman.
May 22nd, 2008 at 8:14 AM
Leroy Jenkins, are you really holding your Senate candidate to the low bar set by the moron who runs the Minnesota GOP? I couldn’t give a shit less about Ron Carey, and neither should you.
Tommy — hell most everyone — has in the past agreed that Franken’s refusal to pay Workers Comp. and his tax issues are a problem. What I’m asking is whether anyone thinks the lies, spin and bullshit coming from the Franken camp are believable?
The MN GOP may be the party keeping these issues in the spotlight, but this is bullshit that should trouble everyone. Particularly the LIES.

Why aren’t you roasting Chaudhary yet…taking a long time to write up all the stupid things he has done?
May 22nd, 2008 at 8:48 AM
Indeed, there’s no shortage of dishonest Democrats to harp on the past couple weeks. Some are even more interesting than Franken’s lies.
You’ve got Chaudhary potentially intimidating businesses that don’t advertise on his stupid television show… maybe he won’t support their legislative needs…
Then you’ve got that bitch, Rep. Mindy Greiling (DFL), violating first amendment rights by demanding that the Strib fire a columnist for writing a factual column that doesn’t fit within her idea of political correctness.
Lies, extortion and intimidation, all brought to you by the Minnesota DFL.
May 22nd, 2008 at 10:22 AM
Rep. Mindy Greiling is unavailable for comment; she has two more courses of crow ala orange to finish.

Know you are busy with Frankin, but this looks tasty too! Too many democrats to expose them all, but looks really tasty..
I demand an investigation on myself!

MPR’s Tim Pugmire reports that DFL Sen. Satveer Chaudhary is asking a Senate Committee to formally investigate him for possible ethical misconduct:
DFL Senator Satveer Chaudhary of Fridley has asked the Senate subcommittee on ethical conduct to determine whether his relationships with two sponsors of the outdoors program he hosts are a conflict of interest. A recent newspaper report said Chaudhary borrowed a snowmobile for an episode from Thief River Falls-based Arctic Cat, and then purchased the machine at a discount. Chaudhary, who is chairman of the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee, later supported a measure to require the state DNR to purchase snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles from Minnesota manufacturers. His show also received sponsorship money from the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters after he backed a bill the union was pushing in 2007.
Chaudhary denies either relationship violates state law or ethics rules, but he wants the ethics panel to resolve the issue.

I’ve said from the start; it’s not merely the inept handling of his personal business that is sinking Angry Al’s boat. It’s the continual lying.
He lied about Gloria Wise.
He lied about not having done business in Ca.
He lied about not having received certified mail.
He lied about his residency.
These were not mistakes. These were not cases of mispeaking. Nothing has been taken out of context.
These were calculated lies told to a public that Al believes is so fricking gullible that no one would dare check his story out and so stupid they couldn’t carry out the investigation if they were so inclined.
He’s obviously been hanging out with Democrats too long.

Norm Coleman lied about being a democrat
Norm Coleman lied about George Galloway
Norm Coleman lied and had others send them as letters to the editor
Norm Coleman lied about being 99 percent better than Wellstone.
What is your point? Politicians lie. Its what they do. I vote for the ones who can lie effectively to get stuff done for the state they represent. Norm has shown no ability to do that.
May 22nd, 2008 at 1:03 PM
You’re right. Norm did lie when he said he was 99 percent better than Paul Wellstone. The truth is that he’s a full 100 percent better.

Governor Pawlenty had an accident!
Do you think that a tree or a stump jumped out in front of the Governor?
It was an interesting story. I “think” there was about $7,000 of damage to the new Polaris machine, I “think” the machine was inoperable after the accident and had to be towed.
