MN GOP PRESS RELEASE: “FRANKEN’S KNOWLEDGE OF AIR AMERICA RIP-OFF OF BOYS & GIRLS CLUB MONEY MUST BE EXPLAINED”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | May 29, 2008

St. Paul- According to news reports, a former director of Air America Radio, Evan Montvel Cohen, has been arrested in Guam after Hawaiian prosecutors charged him with fraud.

According to the New York Sun, “Mr. Cohen, once a resident of Brooklyn, was at the center of a scandal involving loans that the liberal network had received during the period leading up to its launch from a Bronx social-service organization, the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club, which, in turn, received funding from New York City. In 2003 and 2004, a period during which Gloria Wise agency made $825,000 in payments to Air America, Mr. Cohen was director of the radio network as well as a development director for Gloria Wise.”

Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey called the arrest of Cohen a “victory for kids,” and called on Franken to be more forthcoming about what he knew and when he knew it about the scandal that saw nearly a million dollars stolen from the Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club.

“Al Franken has yet another unsatisfactory explanation in a scandal involving money and a failure to appropriately report funds: another scandal in which a signature on an official document raises questions about how candid he has been.  Franken never publicly called for an investigation into how Air America was able to steal this money. And as the leading on-air talent for Air America, he never once publicly called for an investigation of funds to ensure he was not being paid with stolen Boys and Girls Club money.  He has never satisfactorily explained what he knew and when he knew it.  This cannot be another example of Franken hiding behind his spokespeople and from the media.  He must come forward and give a complete explanation of his knowledge of this scandal.  And, more importantly, once he was made aware of it, why he never publicly called for an investigation or accountability,” Carey said.

So, a guy Al Franken worked with allegedly stole money from a boys and girls club.

    And now Al is guilty?

Seems to me, this is like suggesting that Norm Coleman cruises the mens rooms of the airport for sex just because he works with Larry Craig.

Is there a LINK to go with this?

  3. Chestnut Says:

Al signed the Gloria Wise documents. What did he know, and when did he know it?

… or maybe it was J. Gauthier who signed the Gloria Wise fraud documents.

What part of your anatomy did you pull this out of Leroy? LOL

    “allegedly”

  5. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 11:52 AM

From what part of your anatomy do you pull your knowledge, Chestnut?

    Innocent until proven guilty.

  6. Chestnut Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 11:57 AM

I think you meant to address Wade, LeFuckwad.

However, I pulled my knowledge out of the public record… you can’t say the same.

  7. Yoni Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 12:02 PM

Minnesotans will get sick of this smear campaign by Bob Carey. Sooner rather than later, and basically its all hearsay and second had babble.

This is a good time to bring out other unsubstantiated claims, like McCain calling his wife a c**t.

  8. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 12:06 PM

I forget. Is this Norm’s policy on early childhood family education, or FCC reform?

So hard to tell which smear is being used in place of actual positions on actual issues.

  9. D Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 12:09 PM

Hey, Yoni…its RON Carey. Please try to at least know the correct name for your dim wit snipes.

  10. Yoni Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 12:23 PM

sorry D and all of those named Bob Carey.

  11. Chestnut Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 12:30 PM

    Yoni,
That would be cute, except for the substantial amount of documentation available on the public record with regard to Franken’s involvement in the theft and other law breaking.

  12. Chestnut Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 12:34 PM

    Hey LeFuckWad,
In the spirit Karnak the Magnificent, what are “Surrender, tax it until its dead, hide, and throw them under the bus”?

    Open the envelop please:

“It’s Al Franken’s position on Islamic Fascism, the economy, his scandals and what to do with “the help.”"

  13. Bill Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 12:41 PM

    Good one Chestnut!
    Al – what a loser.

  14. Michael B. Brodkorb Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 12:46 PM

Alright folks, let’s knock off the use of “le*uckwad.” Let’s keep it civil.

  15. Bill Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 12:51 PM

    Al is still a loser

  16. Chestnut Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 1:19 PM

Some folks think that Al Franken is engaging in “the issues.” I’d argue, that fraud, liar and tax cheat is engaging in “the assumptions” about the issues. And that’s really the trouble with liberals, generally.

Beyond issues, they assume that they have an appropriate answer for the “issues.” And without exception, that answer includes erecting replacing the Republic with a socialist state. In the process, they lie and obfuscate to confuse voters about what the issues really are.

For example, let’s look at healthcare. Democrats contend that Americans don’t have healthcare. This is bullshit. All Americans have healthcare. What many Americans lack is healthcare Insurance…. the same way many Americans lack car insurance, and even more lack a warranty… but I don’t see anyone suggesting a federal program to supply “universal car insurance and warranties”

Those who lack or have insufficient car insurance or a warranty need to pay for extra repair expenses out of pocket. This certainly is a bummer. The same thing goes for those who lack sufficient health coverage.

The number of these individuals floating about is 47 million. That number was inflated by liberals in the past couple years from 35 million once someone figured out that the 12 million illegal immigrants in this nation also don’t have health insurance.

So 35 million AMERICANS don’t have health coverage. O.k. Why not? Studies indicate it’s because the elect not to buy it, not because they can’t afford it. In reality, it’s only between 8 and 10 million Americans don’t have healthcare coverage because they can’t afford it. … and none of these individuals, nor the 12 million illegal immigrants… goes without preventive care, thanks to the scores of agencies, non-profits and other organizations who provide free services.

In other words, Americans take care of one another… But Democrats seem to insist that that we replace this voluntary compassion with a compulsory federal bureaucracy… a federal bureaucracy that will be operated like every other bureaucracy.. with exceptional waste, fraud and theft.

Keep in mind, Democrats are the same clowns who insist that federal ID is an invasion of privacy… but they want you to hand over your medical records to them.

What’s Al Franken’s position on that?

  17. ajm Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 1:48 PM

Brodkorb: “Let’s keep it civil”. Thanks for the good laugh, Michael! Don’t worry – no one comes to MDE for civility or productive discourse. I think most view MDE as an occassional scoop with lots of spinning rhetoric and some highly amusing regular comment-posters.

  18. Wade Seeker Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 2:10 PM

I wonder if ajm is one of the KOSkiddies that considers that site “enlightened”?

  19. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 2:14 PM

And honestly, I recognize that when Chestnut and Wade move to calling names, it proves that they have lost the fight.

So, I simply recognize their lack of civility as what it is, which is lack of ability to make a case for what they want to believe is true.

  20. Chestnut Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 2:21 PM

No Leroy, it means you’re so completely full of bullshit, it boggles the mind.

Conversely, what qualifies as argument to you is to say: “that’s crazy.”

    Fuck off.

  21. Chestnut Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 2:29 PM

The problem is Democrats don’t seem to believe that one’s character is an issue in assessing a candidate for public office. If they did, they’d support Nelson-Palmayer, who is not only straight forward, he believes earnestly what Democrats believe.

Instead, they put out some ass clown like Al Franken, who moved here from New York after the world realized neither he nor Chevy Chase were funny anymore, and after his gig as a hate-monger on a failed radio station fell through.

In the meantime, we know for a fact that Al Franken failed to pay Workers Comp. for his employees and that he lied about not knowing he was obligated to pay them. We also know that he lied about not doing business in California. We know that he lied about cheating taxes in 17 other states. We know that his signature appears on official documents stemming from the fraud and theft of nearly 1 million dollars from a charity for children (see also failed career at hate radio station).

We also know that Al Franken is for and against the War in Iraq. We know that Al Franken has no understanding of the Minnesota economy or the needs of its people. We know that nearly all of his campaign contributions come from Hollywood and the Hamptons, and the socialists who live there.

We know that Al Franken is adept at avoiding the press, and unable to answer legitimate questions. We know that Al Franken is, if anything, extremely dishonest, crass and rude.

And his supporters don’t think any of that is an issue.

Personally, I could care less what positions Al Franken takes on any issue. He’s too damned ignorant and idiotic to be taken seriously… but that’s the sort of candidate Democrats love. (See also Barak Obama.)

  22. ManGenius Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 2:30 PM

The money was stolen from the Boy + Girls club to keep Air America afloat though one of its countless bankruptcies. If Al didn’t receive any of this money it did, at the very least, keep him employed. The then Director is now facing fraud charges.

So, not only did Al supposedly employ the incompetent and crooked, he worked for them too! I can overlook an accounting error here or a lost letter there but this is all getting to be way too much to be just bad luck.

Can a Harvard Grad really be this blind to all the business around him? I went to a simple little state university yet I have managed to not work for a single company where anyone has ever been charged with fraud or tax evasion of any kind. I guess I need a higher standard of education to run in those circles.

  23. Wade Seeker Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 3:00 PM

Leroy when it comes to civility , you get what you give, as do all libs.

What name have I called you that was not correct?

  24. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 3:14 PM

Back on topic. Does Ron Carey really believe that anyone cares about this enough for it to be a campaign issue?

Ron Carey stole money from the state of Minnesota in his role as the head of the Autism Center, a story that the media seems to have forgotten. This story seems to be very similar, only instead of Al Franken stealing money, his boss did.

Carey belongs in jail for his theft. Franken simply deserves the witness chair in the trial against the Boys and Girls Club thief.

  25. Chestnut Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 3:37 PM

Yeah Leroy, that tripe belongs in the same box with the anonymous note I received that Obama is a raging homosexual. What, is that story over two years old and never resulted in any charges?

Are you really that retarded Jerkins?

  26. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 3:57 PM

It hasn’t resulted in any charges YET.

  27. Chestnut Says:
    May 29th, 2008 at 4:08 PM

In post #5, Le*uckWad, did you or did you not say “innocent until proven guilty.”

    There are no charges.

Conversely, Franken has already been charged and fined in New York and California, and with investigations more current than two fucking years ago.
