MDE FROM THE ARCHIVES: SCHUMER’S DC DIGS

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Unlike Senator Coleman, who is renting a small bedroom for $600 per month, DSCC Chairman Senator Chuck Schumer is renting an entire house, with a full-kitchen for only $150 more per month.  This story from the New York Times has pictures and the living room and kitchen look pretty nice for only $750 a month.

MDE FROM THE ARCHIVES: KERRY LIVES WITH LOBBYIST FOR FREE‏

Monday, June 30th, 2008

The DFL had a press conference to complain about a property Senator Coleman legally rents in Washington, D.C. I agree with Larry Jacobs, who said on WCCO-TV that he questions if this story has any “legs.” The reality is that Senator Coleman paid rent, and no laws or rules were broken. It’s funny, but I [...]

“LTE: BLAME DOTY, DFL FOR GAS TAX HIKE”

Monday, June 30th, 2008

“To the Editor: The next time you fill your vehicle with gas, remember that the Minnesota gas tax is no longer 20 cents per gallon. Thanks to Rep. Al Doty and his fellow Democrats, it’s now 22 cents per gallon and will go up another 3 1/2 cents per gallon before the fall election. And [...]

LARRY JACOBS: “AL FRANKEN’S CAMPAIGN TODAY… IS IN TROUBLE”

Monday, June 30th, 2008

This is a small video clip of Larry Jacobs’ appearence on WCCO-TV yesterday. Jacobs discussed the latest round of poll numbers showing Senator Coleman with a 10-point lead over Al Franken. Jacobs also said that “Al Franken’s campaign today, I think, is in trouble.”

DFL HAS PRESS EVENT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT HIGH GAS PRICES THEY HELPED CREATE

Monday, June 30th, 2008

The Minnesota DFL and 2nd CD candidate Steve Sarvi are having a press conference this morning to complain about high gas prices. I agree that prices are too high, but the Minnesota DFL is partially to blame. It was the DFL legislative leaders who pushed a massive gas-tax increase.  It is Al Franken, the DFL [...]

THE GREAT IPHONE DEBATE OF 2008

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

This is a warning: this post has nothing to do with exposing Minnesota Democrats. Here’s the deal: I am seriously thinking about dumping my Blackberry and buying an iPhone on July 11.  I’ve been a dedicated Blackberry user for years, but I think the time has come to switch. I purchased my first Apple product [...]

LA TIMES: “NEW POLL NO LAUGHING MATTER FOR AL FRANKEN”

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

“As long as the folks at the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute were in the field gauging voter opinion on the presidential race in four key swing states, they also conducted surveys on closely watched Senate contests in two of those locales. The results in the White House battle, released late last week, were pretty positive [...]

TEAM FRANKEN “VERY EXCITED” ABOUT BEING 10-POINTS DOWN IN POLL

Friday, June 27th, 2008

According to Team Franken’s spokeswoman, they are “very excited” to be down 10 points in the latest poll: “Franken’s campaign downplayed the results. ‘We’ve seen all sorts of polls saying all sorts of things, and I’m sure that’ll continue all the way through November,’ Franken spokeswoman Jess McIntosh said, adding, ‘This is a close race [...]

COLEMAN LABELS FRANKEN’S SUPPORT IN LATEST POLL AS “TERRIBLE”

Friday, June 27th, 2008

A new poll released this week by Quinnipiac University and the Washington Post, showed Senator Coleman  leading Al Franken, 51% – 41%. In an article from Forum Communications/Morris Sun Tribune, Senator Coleman called Franken’s 41% support among Minnesotans “terrible“: “‘That’s a terrible number for a Democrat,’ Coleman said of Franken’s figure. Interestingly, men give Coleman [...]

MPR: “SOME VOTERS FAVOR BOTH OBAMA AND COLEMAN”

Friday, June 27th, 2008

This article from MPR discusses Republicans and Democrats in Minnesota that will be voting for Senator Obama for president over Senator John McCain and Senator Norm Coleman instead of Al Franken for the U.S. Senate. One of the Democrats interview for the story, Shane Baker, was a roommate of mine in college. “Shane Baker, another [...]

ANOTHER WEEK, ANOTHER ROUND OF EXPENSES – BUT I’M NOT COMPLAINING

Friday, June 27th, 2008

As I wrote last week, it costs money to attend the Republican National Convention – even if you live in Minnesota.  The largest expense will be for the hotel. But I also have to pay a delegate fee – $350 -  to the Republican Party of Minnesota (MN GOP).  The fee covers expenses incurred by [...]

MN GOP PRESS RELEASE: “BARACK OBAMA: WRONG FOR MINNESOTA GUN OWNERS”

Friday, June 27th, 2008

I received this press release yesterday afternoon. ### “Whether it is Barack Obama’s expressed support of the D.C. gun ban, his support of a federal law to pre-empt state concealed carry legislation, or even making it a felony offense to unlawfully carry certain weapons, he is out of step with law-abiding Minnesotans who own guns.  [...]

BUSTED: NRSC PRESS RELEASE TRIGGERS ADMISSION FROM TEAM FRANKEN ABOUT PAYING BACK TAXES IN PREVIOUSLY UNDISCLOSED STATE

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

The NRSC’s press release from earlier today triggered Team Franken to admit this afternoon that Franken paid back-taxes in a previously undisclosed state – Kentucky. After Republicans stated that Franken potentially owed back-taxes in additional states for speeches and appearances, Team Franken disclosed that Franken owed back-taxes in 17 states.  Kentucky was not one of [...]

Uh-oh.  Al Franken’s tax troubles may not be over. Please read the press release below from the NRSC. Click here for the supporting documentation. ### WASHINGTON, D.C. — Comedian-turned-Democrat-Senate-candidate Al Franken hasn’t gotten his Senate campaign off to the greatest of starts. He’s fumbled his way through his company’s failure to pay workers compensation insurance [...]

ERIC BLACK ON NEW U.S. SENATE POLL: “FRANKEN HAD BETTER FIGURE OUT WHY HE IS RUNNING SO FAR BEHIND THE DEM NOMINEE”

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

“Franken had better figure out why he is running so far behind the Dem nominee and do something about it or his race may also start to slip off those lists of big Dem pickup opportunities.” Source: MinnPost, June 26, 2008 Click here for the complete post.

PROFESSOR ON NEW POLL: FRANKEN “HASN’T REALLY CLOSED THE DEAL WITH A LOT OF SELF-DESCRIBED DEMOCRATS”

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

“Hamline University political science professor Joe Peschek said Franken can’t afford to see his party base eroded that much and also trail substantially among independents. ‘Even though Franken won the DFL endorsement on the first ballot at the DFL convention, he hasn’t really closed the deal with a lot of self-described Democrats,’ Peschek said.” Source: [...]

MN GOP PRESS RELEASE: “FRANKEN: WRONG FOR MINNESOTA GUN OWNERS

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

“In the U.S. Senate race, Minnesotans will have no clearer choice when it comes to protecting the rights of law abiding gun owners.  While Al Franken has a long record attacking law abiding gun owners, Senator Coleman has been a strong advocate for Second Amendment rights. Minnesotans aren’t going to support a candidate like Franken [...]
