The Political Animal, Politics and policy of Minnesota form Pioneer Press reporters [6-2-08].

Rep. Ryan Winkler, who is actually from Golden Valley said his offer to support Franken came “pre-Playboy article,” a graphic article that he said “certainly makes me concerned about this campaign.”

The endorsement wasn’t new; it was repackaged.

[In the Political Animal] Rep. Winkler: “He said he’s not going to retract his endorsement now but “if there is another option that is certainly a possiblity.”

Holding back the endorsements and rolling them out a few days before the state convention especially to counter a recent spate of bad news is an outstanding tactic.

In 1980, that is.

Before the days of the Internet, with its instant analysis and response capabilities, this was an excellent tactic.

Now, however, it looks lame as it gets cut, sliced, and diced on the Internet.

Yesterday the Strib had advice not to tell fat girls to go on a diet. The reason is that telling fat girls to diet will only make them eat more.

The same holds true for Democrats. If you tell them not to nominate a hate-mongering asshole, they’re twice as likely to do just that.

Of course, most Democrats are hate mongering assholes, so they’re field of choices is already pretty limited.

You know, I’m surprised that in addition to the Playboy article people are not also mentioning the willingness of Franken to attend and accept money from the fundraiser held at the house of the Playboy CEO, Christie Hefner. For me, this goes along with the willingness to write a porn laden article for Playboy and is just as bad. Not exactly the Family Values candidate.

Norm isn’t a family values candidate either – since he’s going to tax us out of Home & Auto with his Cap & Trade scheme, but at least he’s not actively soliciting Playboy donations.
