MN GOP PRESS RELEASE: “RPM STATEMENT ON GORE ENDORSEMENT OF FRANKEN”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 4, 2008

St. Paul – Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey tonight issued the following statement regarding Al Gore’s endorsement of Al Franken.

“Tipper Gore and Al Gore were right when they condemned Franken’s vile and demeaning humor directed at the daughter of Newt Gingrich.  Regardless of age, regardless of party, regardless of standing, Al Franken has a pattern of offensive and cruel humor at the expense of women.  The decision by the former Vice President to endorse a man whom he and his wife have condemned for his behavior shows that Democrats are bound and determined to endorse Franken in spite of the fact he doesn’t represent the mainstream values of Minnesota.”

Gore Endorses Franken:

Liberal Blog MN Publius: “Al Franken Has Just Informed The Delegates To The DFL State Convention That Al Gore Has Officially Endorsed Him In The Race To Replace Norm Coleman In The United States Senate.”  (MN Publius, www.mnpublius.com, June 4, 2008)

Flashback: Al & Tipper Gore Condemn Franken:

“After the recent White House Correspondents Dinner in the nation’s capital, the Gores made a public show of their distaste at comedian Al Franken for telling a crude joke about House Speaker Newt Gingrich and his daughter. Tipper Gore hugged Gingrich. Her husband said he wished he had walked out on Franken.  ‘You may not think these things are important, but when standards begin to decline and disintegrate, then you have a rise in speech that is uncivil, of hate speech, of speech that is harmful to whole groups of Americans,’ [Tipper] Gore said. ‘It’s important to maintain a certain standard of civil discourse. The only way to really do that is to talk about it so people realize that a line has been crossed, and someone has said something too hurtful.’”  (Joel Connelly, “Campaigning For Civility; Attacks Harm Everyone, Tipper Gore Says In Visit,” Seattle, May 23, 1996) Post-Intelligencer

Imagine my surprise when I read that Ron Carey had issued a press release about this.

Seems to me it would be a better use of bandwidth if you posted every time Ron Carey DIDN’T have something snarky to say about minor developments in the campaign.

OMG! even ALbore has a clue !

[This may be a paraphrase from a 1996 Correspondents Dinner. It may or may not be the correct year and/or dinner.]

[At this dinner Franken skewers Limbaugh and others for the number of wives that they have had.]

Al Franken, entertainer says, in part:
    ——————————

If combat means living in a ditch, females have biological problems staying in a ditch for 30 days because they get infections.

Now I read this and the image that immediately come to mind was that of Newt, about fifteen years ago, explaining to his thirteen year old daughter that she just got her first “infection.”
    ——————————

[You can google for the speech at the dinner.]

So Franken has locked up the endorsement of a guy who believes in fairy tales.

Even if it is a fairy tale, why are republicans so against taking action to protect the earth?

    The Washington Correspondents Dinner (continued)

[Some of it/them can be seen on YouTube]

“Have you hugged your Newt today?”

Sung to the Barry Manilow [McDonald's] written tune “You deserve a break today.”

Also you seem to be able to read reconstructions of Al Franken’s monologues.

That’s another pretty funny comment Leroy. You’re on a role today.

Here’s a better question though… why are liberals trying so hard to destroy the economy in the pursuit of a fairy tale?

It’s over. The Gorical has spoken.

Now, where the hell is that global warming?

I have a few juicy details about Normy’s nasty behavior which is a lot more recent than any joke Franken wrote for SNL. Normy’s dad was a hideous flirt who thought he was actually cute or something. Remember that little “exposure” problem he had? Let me tell you – the nut doesn’t fall far from the tree…

    Even Jimmy Carter talked about S – E – # to Playboy……it’s PLAYBOY, dummies.
