AS PREDICTED ON MDE, FRANKEN IS ENDORSED ON 1ST BALLOT
By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 7, 2008
I maybe be the only blogger that predicted a 1st ballot endorsement victory for Al Franken at the DFL convention today. On Friday, my DFL sources were giving me information that Team Franken had the numbers for a potential 1st ballot endorsement. Friday morning I wrote that Franken would be endorsed “without much resistance”:
“For the record, I believe Al Franken will be endorsed without much resistance.” Source: Minnesota Democrats Exposed, June 6, 2008
Sean Broom of MN Publius went after me for predicting an easy endorsement for Franken:
“Now, why would Michael go out and say this? He knows about as much about the feelings of the members of the state convention as I do about the intricacies of Andorra .” Source: MN Publius, June 6, 2008
I guess I should complement Sean on his knowledge of Andorra, because my information was spot on. Last evening, based on updated information, I predicted that Franken would be endorsed on the 1st ballot. While liberal bloggers tried to push the silly idea that “the endorsement fight could go long” or that Franken would only get “55%“, I kept writing that Franken would be endorsed on the 1st ballot.
Numerous publish reports indicated that Franken received around 62% on the first ballot. 60% was needed for endorsement and as I predicted, Franken was endorsed on the 1st ballot. Over the next few months, I look forward to reading more post from Sean Broom on MN Publius about the “intricacies of Andorra.”

I can’t understand how even the libs could be that stupid. Not paying his taxes, making jokes about rape, …. Al isn’t a strong candidate. I can’t wait to hear the real dirt on him. Hopefully, the best was saved for after his nomination.
God bless you Norm!

I suppose an impatient person could use an electronic stethoscope immediately after Al had done some gardening.

I know that’s it’s a crazy small country in Europe that has (had?) the highest life expectancy in the world. I would wikipedia it for more details, but I’ll just check in at their web site instead.

Good work Mike! It shows again how useless those liberal progressive democratic blogs are, which is why no one reads them. We find all the real information here.

Unfortunately, it was an easy prediction to make. The kind of people who get elected as DFL delegates aren’t your average Minnesotan. These people have no moral compass, they see absolutely nothing wrong with abnormal sexuality, they see nothing wrong with using or abusing the system for ones own good, and they see nothing wrong with endorsing candidates who joke about drugging and raping women when this candidate will vote their way. Character don’t matter, only how they’ll vote. Character doesn’t matter, only that they have the name recognition to win.
It’s sad but todays DFL is not your grandfathers party. It’s a group of groups of malcontents who hate America, hate those who love America, and will elect the most evil person available if they promise to vote for their radical agenda.

You are like a little child posting something like this. I’m a Republican and even I thought this post was pathetic. Grow up Mike!

I wondered if the third congressional district had an influence here. Those Bonoff supporters kept stubbornly casting their ballots for Bonoff. They might have thought that there was a group just over 40% that subbornly wouldn’t vote for Franken causing no endorsement to encourage an open primary and a fresh candidate.

Michael –
I know what the vote was, but did you get a sense from the room on how the JNP supporters embraced Franken? Was it pretty bitter as people were leaving or do you think they will come together?
I’m still curious from the CD3 convention, with the razor-thin margin and a vote that could really have gone either way, what the state of mind of Bonoff supporters is after a few weeks.

Wrong.
“And my prediction Al Franken in one ballot, or Al Franken in four.”
–Sean Broom
It’s okay Mike, I know you can’t help but be self aggrandizing every now and then.

Sean: I was consistent – Franken on the 1st ballot.
You hedged your bet by allowing yourself some breathing room by writing that Franken may win it in four ballots. BTW: Tell me about the exports and imports of Andorra?
