FRANKEN DIDN’T APOLOGIZE TODAY FOR HIS GRAPHIC JOKES AND SATIRE
By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 7, 2008
Let’s be clear: Al Franken didn’t apologize today for his graphic jokes and satire:
“That’s not exactly what this past week has been about. I’ve had some tough conversations this week. It kills me that things I said and wrote sent a message to some of my friends in this room and people in this state that they can’t count on me to be a champion for women, a champion for ALL Minnesotans, in this campaign and in the Senate.
I’m sorry for that.” Source: Al Franken’s convention speech, June 7, 2008
Franken apologized that his humor raised doubts that he wouldn’t “be a champaign for women” in the U.S. Senate. He didn’t apologize today for joking about drugging and raping a woman.

Franken was endorsed by acclimation.
That seems to be a pretty clear sign that the democrats have accepted his apology.

Typical democraps. If it had been a Republican with a lurid past . . . . but if it is their guy, why then it’s o.k.
June 7th, 2008 at 6:46 PM
Truly, we should not be surprised that the dfl followed the lead of the national sweepstakes.
It is clear that while democrats talk a “great game” about honoring women, their record (particularly this year) shows that the true glass ceiling exists in the democratic ranks … at least we didn’t hear someone from the Obama campaign suggesting that Senator Clinton be drugged and raped!
June 7th, 2008 at 7:03 PM
Apparantly Al’s past isn’t a problem with the hard left. Hopefully to the center and center left it is.
June 7th, 2008 at 8:16 PM
Be clear. The Democrat agenda for the upcoming election is to appease terror, shaft our allies, raise taxes, increase the cost of energy, and destroy the American way of life once and for all.
That is the only conclusion to the policies they advocate. If anyone thinks they have it tough now (which is already largely the fault of Democrat policies), just wait for what’s to come if that racist s.o.b. Barak Obama becomes president, and if more corrupt hate-mongers like Al Franken take federal offices.

YIPPIE! Republicans, we dodged a bullet. With Al on the top of the ticket at least 3 MORE HOUSE DFL’ers will lose their seats!!
This is GREAT news!

A vote for Walz is a vote for rape satire, tax cheats and hate.

Says Lawrence–”Typical democraps. If it had been a Republican with a lurid past . . . . but if it is their guy, why then it’s o.k.”
Hmmm. “Republican with a lurid past.” Who could that be? Or do you mean lurid past AND present?
June 7th, 2008 at 11:07 PM
Typical democraps. If it had been a Republican with a lurid past . . . . but if it is their guy, why then it’s o.k.
who are you kidding Lawrence, Norm’s past includes being an anti-war activist, pot smoking hippy, who starved himself so he could dodge the draft. Not to mention he was a democrat(that has got to erk you republicans). Now if that is not a Republican with lurid past, I don’t know what is.
Its nice to know that the DFL and liberal bloggers don’t find it necessary to bring this up on a daily basis, like Michael and Ron Carey…..
in fact the only person who feels he needs to stoop to that level is a Republican, Jack Shepard.

This did not help George Allen when he went after the sick writings of his opponent in Virginia. Will it work here?
June 8th, 2008 at 1:46 AM
brian makes a good point, although i would point out the writings allen went after were fictional stories of a character in a book written by webb. the primary issue that allen suffered from was more the macocca (sp?) comment.
i would anticipate the stories on franken are just starting, not to mention that franken’s ability to debate will be, in my opinion, no where near coleman’s ability, plus franken still needs to win the primary.
June 8th, 2008 at 8:23 AM
Yoni’s been reading and believing the DFL fairy tales too. Why is it that liberals can’t point to relative facts without making up additional lies?
Yoni, what the hell is wrong with you? You’re either stupid, or full of shit. … but probably both.
June 8th, 2008 at 9:09 AM
In the Islamic world, anyone who leaves Islam for another religion is deemed an apostate and sentenced to death. Norm Coleman left the Democrat party because he could no longer agree with its extremist, socialist, anti-American agenda.
He and apostates from Islam have something in common.
June 8th, 2008 at 1:36 PM
Wow Chestnut, so you are comparing the people who you hate, Muslims, with Norm Coleman, very interesting.
also, which parts are you trying to deny about Norm’s past, that he was a hippy? an anti-war activist? a pot smoker? all of it is true my friend.
I don’t think any of those things are that bad, especially in the climate in which he grew up in, but I know those are things which drive republicans crazy and good old Norm was part of all of them.
June 8th, 2008 at 3:25 PM
Yoni,
Are you this stupid naturally? Or do you practice?
One: Apostates from the sham Muslim religion are treated how Democrats treated Norm Coleman when he left their bullshit political philosophy. Both Muslims and Democrats want the enlightened killed.
Two: I’m not denying that Norm was a democrat, a Vietnam war protester or a pot-head at some point. I am shocked that a dumbshit like you needs to pile on a new lie that he starved himself. Like I said, talk the facts as they are, quit the fucking lies… though, since you are a Democrat, I know that lying is about all you know to do.
Bottom line is, I could care less what he did in the 1970s. He was a great prosecutor in the AGs office, he was a phenomenal mayor for Saint Paul, and he’s been a terrific Senator.
As a Democrat, he always was centrist…. but the Center is too far right for the Minnesota DFL. He realized that and became a Republican… and he’s still at the Center. He’s not a very “conservative” guy… no one argues that…. it’s why he’s been such a great choice for Minnesota.
June 8th, 2008 at 3:36 PM
And I could careless what Al said ten or fifteen years ago to get a laugh.
what has he done for Minnesota? if he was such a terrific senator why is it nearly impossible to find anybody talk about these positives, but only about dumb shit that Al said fifteen years ago.
Did Norm have an eating disorder when he was in college? did he have health issues? or was he purposely trying to dodge the draft by not eating. Show me proof either way and then you can call me a dipshit.
June 8th, 2008 at 4:11 PM
So, by that logic, anyone of age that was not drafted was a draft dodger…….dipshit.
June 8th, 2008 at 4:20 PM
Yoni,
I am afraid you are visiting the wrong site. You see MDE’s title kinda explains what the topics are. If you don’t like the topics please visit a site that meets your needs.
June 8th, 2008 at 4:30 PM
oakpack
why wasn’t Norm drafted?
June 8th, 2008 at 4:49 PM
Prove to me why he wasn’t. I’m not the one making accusations.
June 8th, 2008 at 5:02 PM
“What has he done for Minnesota?”
Are you kidding? His entire career is in service of Minnesotans. Outstanding career in the Minnesota AGs office, he oversaw the re-birth of the city of Saint Paul, and as Senator, he’s had a distinguished career representing the needs of the state…. from supporting alternative energy, agriculture reform, veterans affairs, and tax reform. You have to be completely brain dead or blind to be unaware of all Norm Coleman has done for the state… or you have to be a Democrat (synonymous with brain dead).
The question is what has Al Franken ever done for any body on any issue? You cannot find anyone with a straight answer on that, because the only things Al Franken has ever done has been to foment hate and anger, particularly since his career as a comedian failed.
Democrats want Minnesota to believe that an asshole like Al Franken with no record of accomplishment whatsoever and with no record of contribution to the state of Minnesota should go represent them in Washington. They want to replace a good, earnest Senator, with a hate-mongering asshole who can’t get through the week without telling a rape joke or lying about his past. Democrats want a hyper-partisan asshole who can’t tie his own shoes, much less represent the needs and values of Minnesotans.
For fuck sake Yoni, tell me what Al Franken has ever accomplished to make him worthy to be our Senator. The answer is, you can’t.
If you want to tell lies about Norm Coleman, it’s on you, you dumb bitch, to prove them accurate.
And telling more fucking lies about Norm Coleman only reinforces the point that Al Franken has no idea what it takes to be a Senator. He barely skated by as a “satirist.”
June 8th, 2008 at 5:05 PM
Yoni wants to talk about draft dodgers, but probably voted for Bill Clinton. She wants to talk about respect for veterans, but probably voted for John Kerry, who made a name for himself by slandering veterans…
Democrats, if they didn’t tell lies, they’d wouldn’t do anything at all.
June 8th, 2008 at 5:46 PM
We all know Clinton was in England as a Rhodes Scholar (insert what Norm was doing at the same time here), thats why he didn’t go to Vietnam. Sure once he returned he faught to be excempt, because he didn’t wanna fight a war he didn’t believe in.
And John Kerry was an anti-war activist only AFTER he served our country heroically. That is something Norm can not say he did.
Norm has only represented himself, Bush the Lesser, the oil companies, and the pharmaceutical companies over the last 8 years. He hasn’t done shit for Minnesota.
Al has showed more support for the troops since 9/11 as compared to Norm. All Norm has done since 9/11 is have Bush and Cheney tell him how to vote. And continue to vote for a war which is only supported by few Minnesotans.
I don’t think Al is that great of a candidate, but he will probably still beat Norm because of Norm’s dedication to Bush and his dis service to Minnesota. If this wasn’t the case Ron Carey and MBB wouldn’t be wasting so much of their time bringing up bullshit SNL skits which didn’t even make it off the drawing board, and poorly written satire in an 8 year old Playboy article.
Once things start and Norm’s record is brought into play with the same tenacity Al’s history as a comedian has come into play, he is screwed. In the end actions will speak louder than words.
June 8th, 2008 at 5:59 PM
Keep believing those fairy tales Yoni. My only point was you can state facts you know without making up lies.
But we know you’re a Democrat, and Democrats do nothing better than tell lies.
June 8th, 2008 at 6:52 PM
I looked back and turns out the only person to corroborate my evidence on Norm about starving himself was Jack Shepard’s website. So I do apologize for that, it was most likely a falsehood, but it is true he didn’t pass a physical for being too skinny.
I do stand behind everything else i wrote though.
June 8th, 2008 at 7:44 PM
And I didn’t question anything else you wrote. But it’s one thing to say that someone failed a physical because they were too thin. And it’s another thing to make up some grandiose story that they starved themselves to do so.
If you can’t prove it, don’t say it. For that matter, it’s a bad idea to repeat anything that dip shit Jack Shepherd has to say.
I visited his Web site once. He’s a goddam lunatic.
June 8th, 2008 at 10:18 PM
yes, a god damn lunatic is right…..
June 9th, 2008 at 7:55 AM
ah….. John Kerry enlisted when it became obvious he was going to be drafted, and then he got his purple hearts under, shall we say, murky instances… Clinton never “faught” in Viet Nam because it was a war he didn’t believe in? I’m pretty sure Bubba was just a’scared of getting his fat-girl chasing ass shot off….nothing more.
June 9th, 2008 at 8:14 AM
I love how you Republicans flip out when someone questions the honor of the soldiers fighting today, but you can bring up this Kerry smear thing whenever you want. Murky circumstances, when stuff like that is said you dishonor every soldier who ever received the Purple Heart.
June 9th, 2008 at 9:01 AM
Zipity, the line about Kerry’s purple hearts is stupid, and a non-starter. While he won’t release his full records, the same goes for what I said to Yoni, if you can’t prove it, don’t say it.
The man earned 3 purple hearts more than you or I did. Give it a rest.
If you want to go after Kerry, go after him for the true record… his clandestine meetings with the V.C. in Paris, his slander of U.S. soldiers, his phony medal toss, and his numerous service discharges several years after his service was up. For that matter, its still unexplained why he had to have his medals ‘reinstated’… there’s good reason to believe he was dishonorably discharged from the Navy for conduct unbecoming…
Like I said, there are well documented facts to go after Kerry on… dispense with the shit you can’t prove.
June 9th, 2008 at 9:49 AM
“Murky circumstances, when stuff like that is said you dishonor every soldier who ever received the Purple Heart.”
Kerry dishonored every soldier who ever legitimately received the Purple Heart, the Silver Star and every other award he ever pinned on.
But pinning on awards that they clearly didn’t deserve is something that comes easily to many leftists. Hell, we’ve got a Democrat troll right here that lied to us that he was a disabled combat veteran…right, Thomas Johnson?
June 9th, 2008 at 7:13 PM
What? How does sending a military veterans to the Third Ring of Hell stack up in the dishonor code?
