BREAKING NEWS: PRESIDENT OF DFL FEMINIST CAUCUS RESIGNS DUE TO FRANKEN’S ENDORSEMENT
By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 8, 2008
“Mari Urness Pokornowski of Cokato, president of the DFL Feminist Caucus, resigned Saturday when she learned that her group had endorsed Franken. As a mother and former teacher, she said, she didn’t see how Franken’s writings represented rural Minnesota values.
The endorsement, she said, ‘was a choice made by the caucus, and once that decision is made, you have to make a choice where you stand, For me, my decision was to step down.’” Source: Star Tribune, June 8, 2008

Huh… that’s a new one. A Democrat with an ounce of integrity. Who’s ever heard of such a thing? I’m going to bet the DFL folks really hate her.
June 8th, 2008 at 9:09 am
It won’t do any good. The DFL represents the metro area and don’t give a damn about the rural areas.
June 8th, 2008 at 9:30 am
Actually, doesn’t surprise me at all either. There was a strong group of Ciresi supporters in the caucus. She was one of them. They are holding out hope of Mike…..

Pete:
Forgive me for asking. Are you taking the position that a metro area woman doesn’t have fears of getting raped? Are you taking the position that a metro area woman doesn’t care if
somebody makes bad sex jokes about women? Pete you just made a comment that is as bad and tasteless as Al Franken!

Clueless liberals just don’t get it. Those few DFL’ers with an ounce of integrity who denounce Angry Al’s porn writing and women-hating are said to just be Cirisi partisans. This stupidity just doesn’t get the point. It’s not about politics, it’s about morals and integrity and has absolutely nothing to do with having supported Cirisi.

I think it is good Franken is the nominee because Minnesotans will have plenty of ammunition to go after his odd stands on various issues. “Pig Face,” not to be confused with “pigman” on Seinfeld is truly a hateful little man. For him to make some of the comments about an ally of ours, Israel, it shows his lack of morals and ethics. His satire about rape is bizzare. Had a Republican had positions like Franken the liberal media would have destroyed that candidate. But it’s okay if you’re a democrat because remember you’re part of a big tent and anything is allowed to be said. It’s a shame today that people on the left have no sense of moral outrage. If you call them on it, they quickly evoke anything negative about Republicans they can muster. I’m sure there are more Franken sound bites or articles yet discovered that will be even more embarrassing to democrats. After Coleman wins it will be fun looking back at how inept Al Franken’s career has really been. You know he’s not successful in the arts or he’d still be there. Rumor has it he’s burned many bridges in the entertainment industry. It’s almost like he’s been banished to run for political office. Once he loses, Minnesota should give him a job as a wild animal protector or spokesman, he’d shine at that.

Each to his/her own, but I think that with all that’s wrong with Franken as a nominee — the awful (well, it’s worse than that) financial history of Air America, the nonpayment of workers comp, the tax stuff, the arrogance and ignorance — the focus on some of his comedic writings is misplaced.
It’s sort of like making fun of Obama for his ears.
That said, in year in which pretty much any randomly chosen DFLer would have been likely to beat Coleman, it’s bizarre that the DFL has leaped on the Franken Titanic on the first ballot.

Average Joe, you couldn’t be more wrong. Some of the “outrage” is true….some of it was expected prior to the last several months. Why would you think the Feminist Caucus didn’t endorse months ago? Because the Ciresi group was holding out all along. Sometimes people do know what they are talking about….not just guessing.
June 8th, 2008 at 11:56 am
I couldn’t be more right, WMD. This isn’t about politics, it’s about the few people left in the DFL with integrity to know what average people know about morals, right and wrong. Defenders of the porn-writer have no clue what average folks are all about.
June 8th, 2008 at 11:57 am
And by the way, sometimes people do know what they’re talking about and aren’t just guessing.
June 8th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
Really? You’re a member of the Feminist Caucus? Wow….you’re not on my membership roster. I, personally, am a member.
June 8th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
WMD,
If the Feminist Caucus had endorsed Franken months ago at least they might have been able to say they weren’t aware of the mysogyny and rape jokes. Endorsing Franken June 7 2008 after the facts came out and were held in the DFL’s face means they don’t even have the usual ignorance excuse.

Nice coverage this weekend. Thank you, Michael.

We need to have a third option for Senate whether it’s the green party or the Independence Party or simply independent. I don’t want to vote for Al Franken or Norm Coleman. Hell, I’d rather vote for Jesse f-ing Ventura than those other clowns. Pete Hutchinson might be a solid choice for Senator. Let’s go people, wake up. Norm and Al are the biggest wastes of time. It’s a “carpetbagger” and a “yes man” that both don’t belong in Washington.

Oh I see - it’s on the 3rd page
June 8th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
For him to make some of the comments about an ally of ours, Israel, it shows his lack of morals and ethics.
which comments are those? Charley? That is a pretty big accusation to make without any proof of what these ‘comments’ are.
looking forward to hearing your response

Mari is a stand-up character. Jackie Stevenson and the others went behind Mari’s back and endorsed him without Mari even being there and then circulated the petition right as she was going on stage.
They did that because they knew she would be opposed to endorsing a guy who didn’t even have the balls to give her a phone call to explain himself.
The feminist caucus is now a joke in my eyes. You guys really screwed up got used by the Franken campaign. He doesn’t give a shit about the caucus - you were damage control and he played you perfectly in time with his speech. Now you look stupid because you have publicly announced that you don’t care about feminism, and instead care only your preferential candidate.

Joel,
“focus on some of his comedic writings is misplaced”
Somebody hasn’t read their Amanda Marcotte as instructed by the likes of NOW and the DFL Feminist Caucus. Amanda’s essential concerns - mysogyny in our culture, rape in the world - are now secondary to all that his hoped for in … Al Franken.
Search on pandagon. Iowa Hawk has various “tutorials” if you can’t make it through Amanda’s material.

Joel,
Saying writings are not public-enterprise-worthy and saying they are illegal are two different things.
Us as private citizens saying something is not leadership-worthy and a leader saying what we do is illegal or firable as Mindy Greiling said as a public official about Kersten are two different things. Does that make sense?
That’s my take on the 1st amendment anyway.

The Franken endorsement is more proof that Democrats don’t have a spine. If they did, they would have endorsed the candidate that most closely reflects their values…
Oh… wait… they did. Franken stands for hate, misogyny, tax hypocrisy and corruption. Yeah, Franken is the DFL’s guy.
Never mind.
June 8th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Walter you have a sick mind. What I said was the DFL won’t care what this women thinks because she does not represent the metro area. The metro area DFL women don’t care because their only concern is getting a DFL’er elected. So Walter what I’m saying is the DFL does not care what a rural woman (or any woman) thinks.
You steal a bottle of wine at church today>

You’re about as clever as a brick.

Pete read over your own quote:
“The DFL represents the metro area and doesn’t give a damn about rural areas.”
* Okay that means based on your own comment the metro democrats wanted to endorse Franken and the rural didn’t.
* The rural democrats didn’t want to endorse Franken in part because that Franken tells sick jokes including jokes about raping women.
* If you endorse Franken and I assume a lot of metro area Democrats are women you’re saying that it’s because they don’t care about Franken’s jokes.
* You in effect following the logic of the comment said a metro area woman doesn’t care at all about these comments.
What you’re saying is is if a woman lives in Minneapolis she doesn’t care about Franken’s jokes, but if she lives in a small town like Grantie Falls, MN that she would care if she lives there.
Do you know how much of a sexist comment that is!
You must have drunk that bottle of wine at church heavily either to beg forgiveness for the sin you did or else to try to pretend you didn’t make that stupid comment.

[...] I am rushing to a hastily called press conference by Team Franken. I can’t miss this event. Apparently they are going to unveil “Women for Franken” and have the Minnesota DFL Feminist Caucus remind people why they endorsed a guy who made jokes about drugging and raping wome. This is the same group whose president stepped down instead of trying to defend the DFL Feminist Caucus endorsem…. [...]
