REMOVE THE FOOT FROM YOUR MOUTH, START EATING CROW, AND WIPE THE EGG OFF YOUR FACE
By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 20, 2008
Outtakes of Senator Norm Coleman’s TV ad with Mrs. Coleman are now available at vinnysgarage.com. I once again look forward to reading the apologies from the bloggers mentioned in this post. It’s time for these “goofy” bloggers to accept reality.
UPDATE: MN Publius is the first blog to accept reality – we’ll see if the other bloggers come to their senses.

What does that prove? That you can green screen in a hair lady? I was thinking if someone wanted to make a case for the two being in the same room, they would have a clip of the two talking to one another, or in any other way interacting. At no point did this clarify things.
Laurie (and ironically, the hairdresser) are still more brightly lit than anything in the background. And before you suggest that was intentional, I would call into question the reflection off the granite island. Norm’s reflection appears, while the apparent brightly front-lit Laurie does not so much as cast a shadow.
One other thing this did bring to light (pun intended) was that the guy Norm is again using to make his ads (Scott Howell) is the same Rove protoge who did the slimy Harold Ford ads in Tennessee. Good to know Norm is openly embracing dirty campaigning.
June 20th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
You got it real bad don’t you, dolt #4?
June 20th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
Michael, you can do better than this.
Oh, and by the way – why did Laurie scrub her commercial website of all the shameless hyping of her senatorial hubby?
June 20th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
I have to admit, the video looked a little odd simply because of the perspective. I didn’t think, however, that they would actually fake the video.
I don’t think the Coleman campaign would go so far as to green screen a hair dresser into the video.
Leroy, find something better to do with your life than concocting wild imaginations on how the Coleman camp is duping us all.
June 20th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
Say, Johnson?
You should try “green screening” yourself. Put you and John “Christmas in Cambodia” Kerry into some really convincing battle scenes.
Hey, remember Forrest Gump getting his CMH? Just pop your little pin head on top of Gump’s and you’re a bigger war hero than ever!
June 20th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
Leroy, have you ever seen light? It generally comes from the sun or a modern contraption we call – amazingly enough – a light.
The reflection of Norm you see in the countertop comes from the light (from the sun) shining in through the window. Light from the left.
If you look at Laurie (the blond woman) you can see that no only is she not light by the light from the window, but she is lit by a diffused spot light that would be coming from just off the bottom left portion of the video window. That wouldn’t put a shadow on the counter.
Perhaps if you emerge from your mom’s basement you will have a better understanding of how light and shadow works.
June 20th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
Loris..too much too quick. You have to spoon feed these dolts reeeeeal slow or their little hollow heads will explode.
June 20th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
Say, Scrotee? There was no greenscreening the junk on that full frontal male nudity you linked to, here on MDE.
You’re a real “credit” to the republiCon party, Scrotee.
June 20th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
Tommy: Please refer to him as Swiftee. I have warned people about making fun of your name. Let’s all try and keep the comments focused on the subject of the post.
June 20th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
It seems to me that MBB/MDE is only going to refer to Andy Barr by a nickname of “Scooter.”
AND THAT HAPPENED TO BE THE SUBJECT OF THE POST.
June 20th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
Wow – that warning has had a lot of effect, Michael. And why is it that you chastised me, in post #8, but no chastisement of “Swiftee” for his post #2?
Oh, wait – it’s because “Swiftee” is on your side, and when guys like “Swiftee” call names, and guys like “Chestnut” drop the (cheney)heimer, you don’t say a word.
That’s why you’re side got hammered in 2006 and is gonna get hammered this cycle, too, Michael – people recognize the “do as we say, not as we do” hypocrisy of the GOP.
June 20th, 2008 at 5:50 pm
No green screened junk for you indeed, dolt #1. Nothing but the best johnsons for Johnson’s screensaver!
June 20th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Say, Johnson? It’s Mike’s blog…means he get to do whatever he wants.
Why not go on over to your own little corner and start another thread where you congratulate yourself. Maybe Grace “Look Ma, no brain!” Kelly will jump in!
June 20th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
Life’s got to be kind of tough for you, Johnson. Most guys only get their johnsons caught in the zipper once, or maybe twice in a life time.
You get tangled in the zipper every time your mommy puts your hood up.
June 20th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
If there were any further evidence required that the ilk of Tommy and Leroy are completely retarded and detached from reality, their comments around this ad should just about nail the case shut.
Seriously. You two douche bags should just go back to living under the bridge from which you crawled and leave the rest of the world the hell alone.
There are not two more wretched and ridiculous idiots.
June 20th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
Perhaps a newer ad will state, “Norm does have time to blow dry my hair!” instead of the former ad that went something similar to Norm doesn’t have time to blow dry my hair.
June 20th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
Loris-
How does low left lighting account for the fact that Laurie is lit the brightest on the top of her head?
Please explain that to me.
June 20th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
MBB: “Remove the foot from your mouth, start eating crow, and wipe the egg from your face”
—————————————-
Why is the entire crow in the mouth of MBB [except for the crow's foot]?
If MBB wants the foot of the crow also – so be it.
When MBB gobbles and smacks crow, it is not possible to also eat crow with him.
When MBB gets to the part where he bites into the egg of the female crow [in his mouth] and squirts the inside of the egg out of his mouth, I certainly will wipe the egg of the face of others that have been squirted.
June 20th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
Say Leroy?
In the upper left screen shot Laurie’s hand is on the counter. Next to her hand sits a coffee mug. At the beginning of the video, we see Laurie pick up the coffee mug from the counter and hold it for the remainder of the ad.
I’m just wondering if it’s your contention that Laurie, the hairdresser, the coffee mug, AND a granite topped kitchen island were all green screened into the ad, or whether the coffee mug was, in fact, levitating,
June 20th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
Swiftee, Michael can indeed set the rules, and if he wants to let you talk about Franken taking TwoPutz in a Larry Craig manner, that’s his right.
But don’t be surprised when moderate Republicans vote for DFLers in droves this fall. You’re disgusting, and Michael is a hypcrite. Those are the facts that people see.
June 20th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
Moderate Republicans throughout the state of Minnesota will be voting for Al “my 12 year old son studied beastiality” Franken because I’m disgusting and Mike’s a hypocrite.
Got it…thanks for the heads up.
June 20th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Surly-
I can answer your levitating cup question about as easily as you can answer my lack of shadow/reflection question.
Bottom line, regardless of if it is or if it isn’t this ad looks fake, and it adds fuel to the fire about Norm’s marriage being fraudulent.
June 20th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
“I can answer your levitating cup question about as easily as you can answer my lack of shadow/reflection question.”
You know Leroy, you got me there.
I can’t answer your insane question about shadows and you can’t respond to facts because you are insane.
June 20th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
I could say that it is much easier to green a table that is approximate height for a chroma key mix than it is to re-create appropriate shadow/reflections.
But, since this is too technical for you, I will just let it drop.
June 20th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
That would be the same table that you complained contains Norm’s reflection.
Green keyed that in too, I suppose.
June 20th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
First off, I’m a Dem operative. I’ve forgotten about more campaigns than I am willing to admit. After looking at the site visits of the various blogs (both D and R) and their comment counts, it seems like far more people MIGHT see this comment here than on other blogs. It is a counsel and warning to my fellow DFL’ers.
It’s very, very, very, very clear to me that none of these so called “video experts” have ever been on a real campaign commercial shoot with the full complement of grips, gaffes, craft services, etc.
Yeah, the lighting and angles make the final product look a little funky, but the point of the ad was to feature Mrs. Coleman talking about Norm. And in a very creative, fun way, Howell & Co., put together a fun little ad that grabs your eye better than the standard “spouse talks about elected spouse” ad.
The more important point is that Scott is doing Norm’s media (again.) This is not new news, and it was something that a number of DFL insiders and politicos were whispering about for months. Scott is about the meanest, nastiest, and BEST GOP ad man around. He comes from a long line of the most skilled GOP operatives, and his ads, regardless of your opinions on their veracity, appropriateness, tastefulness, WORK.
Any campaign operative who has ever put big dollars on television will tell you that you are going to put the spot on that will move the most numbers (of voters) either towards you or far, far away from your opponent. That’s Scott’s job, and he will do it with glee.
I’ve watched with some interest as other DFL blogs have immediately claimed that the new DraftCiresi folks “obviously are a Thune style GOP operation.” Whether they are or not (and my sources report they are legitimate DFLers), for the sake of Wellstone’s seat, please, please pull your heads out of the ground and realize what is about to go down here in Minnesota. At least save yourself some face by realizing what is about to hit not only Al but so many others.
Alas, this, like so many other warnings will be ignored, attacked, and I’ll be painted as “actually a GOPer”…voices crying in the wilderness and all…
MN DFL was warned. It looks like this race will run it’s course with the candidates they have (well, with the possible addition of Ventura).
For all of the so-called Wellstone accolytes, it’s a crying shame you’ve let this happen to Paul’s seat. Once you’re over your shock (not the general electorate, they have a lot more common sense than you give them credit for) of the results on the evening of November 4th, I hope you all do some soul searching and remember that you could have re-taken Paul’s seat with the right candidate.
I’ll give you two last things and be gone. The link below to an article from the HuffPo about Scott. Read it, and then think about who did this: Narrated his own books.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/max-blumenthal/a-chat-with-republican-ra_b_32734.html
(P.S. – Do you really think they’ve taken their hardest and best swings at Al this early or that they’re afraid of him? These guys are smoking cigars, sipping scotch, and smiling.)
June 20th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Q. Did the NEW YORK DRAFT BOARD DOCTOR really say this to Norm?
A. “Remove the foot from your mouth, start eating crow, and wipe the egg off your face”?
June 20th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
So, the message from a good part of the “goofy blogger” community seems to be “we don’t get it”?
Well, I guess you can inform a goofy blogger, but you cannot make him think.
June 20th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Leroy, lean back, way back so your eyes point toward the ceiling. See those bright spots? Those are lights. Up there is where we put them. Things closer to them, like heads, show up very bright.
June 20th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
I think that I get “it.”
“It” isn’t that big of a thing to me.
MBB is bent out of shape that Laurie was in the kitchen or some such thing. Andy Barr, or friends of Andy Barr, or perhaps people who have no connection with Andy Barr, think that perhaps Laurie looked as though she were/was (subjunctive/indicative tense) on a green screen.
OK. It matters a bit to me but, not too much.
Why not do the ad over again. Have Norm & Laurie take out the trash together, and play Surfin’ Bird by the Trashmen.
June 20th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
“For the sake of Wellstone’s seat”? “You’ve let this happen to Paul’s seat”?
Excuse me sir, but what an absolute load of crap.
It’s high time you realized that no elected official, let alone groupies of a pissant Kucinich wannabe, is entitled to proclaim ownership of anything that belongs to the people of this state.
June 20th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Ugh- El P- you post WAY to much- I can’t read it all- your comments are usually just bizarre.
June 20th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
el presidente,
Next time you feel the urge to post something, conserve some energy and just try doing this (preferably by using your head against the keyboard):
a;dlkfjafajd’flkajf’akjdqahaqejgBAZÂ ]95aariur3458745a;lkfgjasbabanas; asdflaksjfa3tricba[bfafjakl;gjakfhaogfhjarighjajbnbklnaoevnroibnflgnkzlfjgariglkfgjz’aljrgairjghKZfna’rjtaijg”SLdjfg’aKJRgaIJRhKZFhgaehrgiaerghjaz”FLkghzL”Fkghaeriohga’lkfgh’ahgiaRHGAEHNAKFAF’HAKJ
You’ll save yourself some time and still produce the same results.
June 21st, 2008 at 8:53 am
Wow. All of this fuss over a fluff-piece of an AD? Oh, granted, if Norm had made some radical about-face on a substantive issue, we wouldn’t be talking about whether the candidate was green-screened in or not. But he didn’t, so the left-loonies want to complain about the theatrics, missing the whole point, as usual. The ad WORKS, does what it is supposed to do, and it DOES NOT MATTER how it was made!
June 21st, 2008 at 9:46 am
The point I have made repeatedly on here is that the ad DOESN’T work.
Green screen or not, Laurie looks odd, and the banter is stilted and awkward. For a guy that every election has to prove that his wife is still married to him, this doesn’t seem like the way to kick off that parallel campaign.
June 21st, 2008 at 11:59 am
Exactly, Leroy. This ad reminds me of the “Little Markie At A Bus Stop” – and everyone watching that ad, knew that race was over.
This race is over, too. Especially after Team Gumby posted this one, on ol’ Smokescreen’s official campaign website:
http://www.colemanforsenate.com/blog-post/130/al-franken-edited-into-new-campaign-ad%3F
June 21st, 2008 at 3:33 pm
I think this commercial is just another in a long series of examples of Norm’s lack of self awareness. Commericals like this for Norm raise issues. Now the issues may be resolved in Norm’s favor, but the fact that the issues were raised is more significant than their ultimate resolution.
June 21st, 2008 at 4:08 pm
I’m not apologizing for speculating about something when we were making logical conclusions.
June 21st, 2008 at 9:50 pm
shozzy,
If you would have checked, I haven’t posted much lately.
MBB is writing about EATING CROW, and on an adjecent post someone has posted something about “eating kittens.”
Eating birds:
Chickens, pheasants, ducks, turkeys, is probably done in the USA much more than people realize.
Eating bird parts or products: eggs, bird drop soup, etc. is also done more than people probably realize.
I have seen some of the butchering of hogs, chickens, goats, etc. and eaten some of the products that I have seen butchered.
It was a very common practice years ago, especially in rural areas.
Nowadays the more correct term [and I agree] is “meat cutter.”
June 22nd, 2008 at 1:29 am
The Ad works… heard about it all weekend. Big thumbs up!
June 22nd, 2008 at 4:28 pm
When MDE & MnPublius get together are what are they going to eat for snacks?
Pickled crows feet?
Pickled pigs feet?
Minnesota pickles?
Will they be drinking as much COFFEE as Laurie Coleman had in her white coffee cup, at the time that the ad was filmed?
June 22nd, 2008 at 7:39 pm
I have heard of foot and mouth disease. I suppose there it also extends to some kind of “claw” and mouth disease.
