REPORTS SURFACE OF PHONE SURVEY ASKING ABOUT ARNE CARLSON RUNNING FOR THE FOR U.S. SENATE – AS A DFLER

By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 23, 2008

My NARN colleague, Chad The Elder over at Fraters Libertas, participated in a phone survey where he was asked about former Governor Arne Carlson running for the U.S. Senate as a DFLer:

“Norm Coleman a little too close to the Bush administration for your liking, but Al Franken too much of a hard left liberal for you to pull the lever for him? How about a nice Minnesota moderate instead? A man with experience in government and history of playing it right down the middle? How about Arne Carlson for US Senate? On the DFL ticket???

Sounds a bit crazy, but I just got done responding to a rather lengthy (almost nineteen minutes) phone survey on the Minnesota Senate race that raised just that possibility. Most of the questions involved Franken and Coleman, but Carlson’s name was mentioned at various places and twice I was asked who I would vote for between Republican Norm Coleman and DFLer Arne Carlson.” Source: Fraters Libertas, June 22, 2008

Wow. You are only chasing MinnPost by a WEEK on this topic.

Please don’t tell us who wins between Dewey and Truman. I just want to wait for the morning paper to find out…

I would love to see Arne do for the Democrat Party what he did for the Republican Party in all the years he was Governor.

“Please don’t tell us who wins between Dewey and Truman. I just want to wait for the morning paper to find out”

    Hahaha!

Well, at least he’d be honest about the party he’s belonged in this whole time. DFL’ers, of course, would continue to call Norm a “flip flopper” and defend Arne as having “grown”(hypocrisy has no borders when it comes to these people).

Like having your portrait at the MN State Capitol wearing a MN Letterman’s Jacket when:

-1. You didn’t letter at the U of MN
-2. You didn’t graduate form the U of MN
-3. Perhaps you didn’t even attend the U of MN

I think he would beat Franken and Coleman–what a play!

  7. Chestnut Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 7:58 PM

Arne Carlson… yeah, because the Democrats need another spineless prick on their ticket.

  8. el presidente Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 8:05 PM

What a NEW YORK CITY, NATIVE SON, free for all!!

Each of the three (3) NATIVE NEW YORKERS throwing MINNESOTA PICKLES at each other!

Perhaps the Minnesota Twins could be re-named the NEW YORK TRIPLETS!!

AT LEAST MIKE CIRESI, JOE MAUER, DAVE WINFIELD, HERB BROOKS, ARE MORE THE MINNESOTA TYPES [St. Paul].

  9. el presidente Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 8:21 PM

    Chestnut,

Pickles are spineless, and for that matter I think that most nuts probably are also.

Who has “spine” according to your world.

    [I may have misspelled tripplets.]

  10. Cash N. Carey Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 10:14 PM

Didn’t Arne have a nutty wife too? Maybe they could run together.

PS – Senator McCain has “spine”.

    God bless you John McCain!

  11. el presidente Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 1:20 AM

Arne’s current wife is his third (3rd) wife.

Nut Goodies and Nut Rolls are made in St. Paul.

Arnie’s three (3) wives have had spines, however, I don’t know if Chestnut would agree with that.

Rush Limbaugh’s three (3) or four (4) wives have had spines, however, I don’t know if Chestnut would agree with that.

John McCain’s two (2) wives have had spines, however, I don’t know if Chestnut would agree with that.

  12. Jane Says:

Arne has worked for liberal democrats for years. I can not remember the last time he has supported a republican. As an angry ex-governor, the only way he can get his name in the paper now is to “attack his own party.”

Maybe now that will mean he will be attacking the democrats! I’m glad he is making it official. Good luck to you DFL, I’m sure he will be as much a team player for you as he was for the republicans. No need to send a thank you note.

  13. Newton Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 8:15 AM

    Arne

For God’s sake, wake up and admit that you are no longer relevant in Minnesota.

It’s really sad to see such a has-been try his hardest to stay in the public eye.

Sign your scorecard, Arne. The round is over. The totals on the board are correct. There’s no time left on the clock. 60 Minutes is next, except on the west coast.

    Thank you and drive safely.

  14. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 9:32 AM

I love how proud you all are of driving one of your most popular elected officials from your ever shrinking tent.

Arne knows that the Bush/Coleman/T-Paw shared vision is good for buying the votes of uneducated republican boobs, but not for the future of America or Minnesota. It isn’t leadership. It is pandering.

Minnesota deserves leaders who know that the easy way isn’t always the best way. To that end, he appears likely to leave your tent in favor of the party that knows that governing isn’t all about buying votes and rejecting any idea that stretches past the next election.

  15. Chestnut Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 9:39 AM

    Leroy, two words: Joseph Lieberman.

Please let us know your thoughts of this brave American who reject the weak vision for America his party now prefers?

  17. Leroy Jenkins Says:

    Chestnut, two words: Lincoln Chafee
Chestnut, two more words: Dean Johnson
Chestnut, two more words: Bob Barr
Chestnut, two more words: Jim Jeffords
Chestnut, two more words: Michael Bloomberg
Chestnut, two more words: Sheila Kiscaden
Chestnut, two more words: Alan Keyes
Chestnut, two more words: Ashwin Madia
Chestnut, two more words: James Webb
Chestnut, two more words: Judi Dutcher

  18. Andrew Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 11:30 AM

Hold up Chestnut, Lieberman is a horrible example. He still votes decisively like a Democrat and identifies as an Independent-Democrat. He may be being a douche when it comes to party loyalty and respecting the fact we gave him a committee chairmanship yet he is working for McCain and Collins, we still treat him as a Democrat in the Senate and he behaves as one.

There are better examples, Norm Coleman being one. Although he may not be a great example because he is just a tool.

  19. Chestnut Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 11:31 AM

    Leroy,
Providing a list of mostly other Democrats and a number of Republicans who haven’t been scorned for their opinions is hardly a response.

    Seriously.

And Dean Johnson? A guy who lied to a group of ministers about a supposed conversation with Supreme Court justices?

    Seriously?

    You really are stupid.

  20. Chestnut Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 11:34 AM

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure the Democrats are going to win in November based solely on ambiguous platitudes of “change.” Of course, that change means destroying the economy, appeasing tyrants and ushering in the next Carter administration.

It’ll make Democrats happy. A weak America is the kind of America Democrats can appreciate.

  21. Chestnut Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 11:37 AM

    Here Andrew: Zell Miller.

  22. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 11:40 AM

So, does that mean Minnesota republicans were dumb when they made Dean Johnson the Senate Majority Leader?

And how is reallocating funds out of the middle east and toward our failing roads and schools making for a weaker America?

I tend to think that neglecting our kids is creating a generation of blooming idiots who are a much bigger threat to this country’s future than Saddam Heussein’s former country is.

  23. Chestnut Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 11:49 AM

You’re funny Leroy. Stupid. But funny.

  24. I.R. Informed Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 12:51 PM

    Hey Leroy:

Who is neglecting the “kids/Chillldren”? Parents are responsible for raising and molding their children! The blooming idiots that you are referring to are a direct result of the glorification of cultural filth and shoddy, public schools that endorse a myriad of PC/multi-culural/diversity water-downed crud. Even if we quit the war tomorrow and allocated all our money to the public schools, it would not change the deranged phliosophies that are responsible for their failures. Answer me this Leroy: Who has ran the Minneapolis and St. Paul public schools for the last 35 years and how are they doing? What is Obama going to do to CHANGE the education system to prevent any more “blooming idiots” (my cartoon bubble is conjuring up images of communal re-education camps)?

  25. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 1:39 PM

I believe that Obama is correct when he says that there are many good aspects in No Child Left Behind.

But when you roll out a slogan, and fail to fund it, what you are left with is little more than useless political rhetoric.

George Bush created the current problems within our schools by creating a passable system and then neglecting to fund it properly.

I look forward to watching the Obama administration re-focus our energies on education, making it possible to reverse the effects of Bush’s empty promises.

  26. Chestnut Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 2:06 PM

    Hey Leroy,
Who wrote the NCLB legislation? … hint: Edward Kennedy.

Which branch controls funding? Hint: Congress.

Even so, NCLB is funded plenty. Teachers are just pissed that their performance is being measured for the first time. Fuck the teacher’s union.

I look forward to watching the Obama administration fall flat on its fucking face. His policies didn’t work for Jimmy Carter. They won’t work for him either.

  27. TommyJohnson Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 4:46 PM

Chestnut, Democrats are going to win, because republiCons have proven they are incapable of governing. They campaign on the premise government doesn’t work, then they get elected and prove it.

You clowns had both houses of Congress, and the Oval Office, and you blew it.

The result will be Permanent Minority Status for the next 20 years.

But, look at the bright side, Chestnut: that Permanent Minority Status is EARNED.

  28. Chestnut Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 7:11 PM

Wow, that’s quite a zinger Tommy. You still glowing from your marriage to Leroy Jenkins last week?

  29. Jane Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 9:39 PM

Arne attacked the wounded as the only means to get elected in the GOP.

Seems he is now doing the same in the DFL.

Can we please put a big pink ribbon on him?

Again, please do not send a thank you.

    But thanks…

  30. TommyJohnson Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 10:07 PM

Wasn’t meant to “zing”, Chestnut. Your “Small Tent” party is getting smaller by the day. You can’t even get enough of the faithful to help out at your convention; how are you going to get enough motivated to vote for RINO’s like ol’ Smokescreen?

  31. Our Man in Wright County Says:
    July 1st, 2008 at 12:52 PM

Here’s one thing. If Arne got into the race. You can say syonnara to any Jesse Plans to run. Should Arne survive a DFL primary, Jesse would finish a very distant 3rd in November. His ego can not allow that to happen.

If Arne announces, I’m making book 3-1 says Jesse will not enter his name.
