THE WASHINGTON POST REPORTS ON THE “THE MINNESOTA GREEN SCREEN DEBATE”; STILL NO APOLOGIES FROM LIBERAL BLOGS

By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 23, 2008

Four days after liberal blogs in Minnesota launched a false attack on Senator Norm Coleman and his family, none of the blogs have posted apologies or admitted they were wrong.  MN Publius was the first and only blog to accept reality about the ad.

Not even the blogger who flat-out said that Mrs. Coleman was embedded in the TV ad has apologized or admitted they were wrong:

“…but when a Republican candidate for re-election green-screens his wife into an ad…” Source: MN Campaign Report, June 19, 2008

I believe many of these bloggers hate Senator Coleman and his family. That hatred of the Colemans makes apologizing much more difficult.

Today, the Washington Post reported on the “Green Screen Debate”:

“The battle started last week when Coleman started airing ‘Got It,’ an ad that features the senator and his wife, Laurie, in their kitchen. But some liberal Minnesota blogs suggested Mrs. Coleman did not appear in person, but instead was ‘green screened’ into the ad using chroma key technology.

‘The Senator and his wife were both in the kitchen of their home where the commercial was filmed,’ according to Coleman Communications Director Erin Rath. The Coleman campaign instead suggests that Franken, who has spent most of his professional career in states other than his native Minnesota, is the candidate ‘green-screened’ into his ads…” Source: The Washington Post, June 23, 2008

Click here for the complete post.

The Post’s story contains a web video released by U.S. Senator Norm Coleman’s campaign on Friday afternoon.

The tables have certainly been turned on Team Franken, who helped push this false attack on Senator Coleman and his family behind the scenes.

How have the tables been turned? Democrats have again reminded Minnesota that Norm Coleman’s wife has little to do with her husband or this state, and the republicans countered with a weak attack on a handful of bloggers.

If that is table turning, keep it up.

    Democrats, 1.
    Republicans, 0.

“The Coleman campaign instead suggests that Franken, who has spent most of his professional career in states other than his native Minnesota, is the candidate ‘green-screened’ into his ads…”

Now that is pretty darn funny, but obviously beyond the cranial capabilities of goofy blogger types. ;-)

  3. Greg Lang Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 11:55 AM

Perhaps liberal/progressive/democratic bloggers are waiting until they determine “What would George Soros do?”

  4. TommyJohnson Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 12:20 PM

“I believe many of these bloggers hate Senator Coleman and his family.”

Go with that, Michael. It makes ignoring reality much easier.

  5. Master of None Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 12:32 PM

“Norm Coleman’s wife has little to do with her husband or this state,”

I definitely will not vote for Laurie Coleman for Senate.

  6. Andrew Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 12:48 PM

False attacks again Norm Coleman and his family? Such a spin doctor you are. No blog attacked his family but rather attacked the crapiness of the political ad.

  7. Chestnut Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 1:01 PM

Andrew, you’re half correct. Those assholes criticizing the ad, are also out there attacking Coleman’s marriage and telling lies about their relationship.

    Don’t be so f’n stupid.

  8. Tim from Woodbury Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 1:11 PM

    Michael,

What evidence to you have that the “liberal bloggers” behave as you do?

  9. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 1:20 PM

    Chestnut-

What lies are being told about his relationship.

His wife and kids live in California. They are rarely ever spotted in the state he represents. He is rarely ever spotted in the state he represents.

They could be a perfectly happy married couple. It just seems odd that for that to be the case, their primary residence would apparently be in California and not the state he represents.

  10. Michael B. Brodkorb Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 1:33 PM

Leroy: Senator Coleman’s son recently graduated from St. Thomas in St. Paul and Senator Coleman’s daughter is going to a Minnesota school. You have no right to post your lies on my blog and if you continue this practice, I will ban you from commenting. This is your only warning.

  11. Jim Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 1:37 PM

You missed the best part of the story! Laurie Coleman was paid to be in the commercial! AFTRA member Laurie Coleman got a check for appearing in the Norm Coleman ad. You can look it up!

  12. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 1:37 PM

No defense to the charge that his wife does not live in the state he represents?

Good enough for me (and the voters).

  13. Troy Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 1:53 PM

Who can explain what fools find scandalous. *shrug*

  14. Chestnut Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 1:59 PM

That’s all bullshit Leroy, your lies and innuendo don’t cut it.

“It just seems odd that for that to be the case, their primary residence would apparently be in California and not the state he represents.”

That’s a hilarious statement coming from an Al Franken supporter. Coleman’s primary residence has never been California. However, Franken’s primary residence remains New York City.

  15. Yoni Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 2:00 PM

The tables have certainly been turned on Team Franken, who helped push this false attack on Senator Coleman and his family behind the scenes.

    prove it Michael.

  16. Stonewall Jackson Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 2:02 PM

They don’t call him Bad Bad Leroy Jenkins for nothing!

  17. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 2:03 PM

    Michael-

I assume you will be tracking all lies on this site, and will now threaten Chestnut with banishment as well?

Al Franken (and his wife) live in Minneapolis.

  18. Yoni Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 2:06 PM

    Michael,

The double standard only brings less legitimacy to this blog.

  19. Michael B. Brodkorb Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 2:08 PM

Leroy: I don’t know what Chesnut means by “primary residence.” Mr. and Mrs. Franken do maintain a residence in New York.

  20. TommyJohnson Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 2:29 PM

So, Michael – do you deny that the Coleman’s “maintain a residence” in L.A.?

  21. el presidente Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 2:41 PM

    Even more “Digital Camera Moments.”

  22. Chestnut Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 2:43 PM

Tommy, when has Norm Coleman ever lived in Los Angeles?

  23. el presidente Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 3:00 PM

So then it seems that Laurie Coleman was an AFTRA “actress” when she was in the ad and that she was “acting” out a role, and being paid to “act.”

  24. el presidente Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 3:02 PM

If she did get paid, perhaps that was part of the “special interest,” that was stated.

  25. el presidente Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 3:07 PM

    However, quien sabe? Who knows?

  26. Ben K Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 3:16 PM

These are such weak attacks against Coleman. I am laughing while reading them. Franken is a dud and this about the best you all can come up with.

  27. Swiftee Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 3:22 PM

    Say, Johnson?

Do you deny that your head has a primary residence up Al Franken’s ass?

  28. Chestnut Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 3:57 PM

Franken is on vacation in Minnesota. Whereas I fish and play golf when on vacation, Franken is running for Senate. When his vacation is over in November, he’ll go back to NYC, never to be seen nor heard from again in the land of 10,000 lakes.

  29. Coleman Exposer Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 4:20 PM

Did you produce that video Mike? If so, don’t quit your day job. You actually let Norm attach his name to that?

  30. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 4:22 PM

Yep. For once I totally agree with Chestnut.

When Al Franken is done “vacationing” in Minnesota in November, he might very well go back to New York.

The only place we differ is that I think his vacation in the state won’t end until the end of his fourth term in November, 2032.

  31. Swiftee Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 4:24 PM

    Say, Leroy?

When Franken farts, do you cough?

  32. Troy Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 4:52 PM

[sarcasm] Because Al Franken is the easy going, fiscally diligent, highly prudent, non-misogynist, undeniable exemplar for all members of the Minnesota DFL Party, he is sure slide right into the Coleman’s Senate seat. [/sarcasm]

And you have this “Green Screen” scandal thing goin’ for you, which is nice. *snicker*

  33. Cash N. Carey Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 5:05 PM

Great job again Michael. As I have stated before, whenever the libs are whining, you have hurt them with the truth. And all they have to comfort them is Al Frankenfraud. Poor libs.

We need to help Leroy, he’s obviously using a sub-standard illegal drug product. Maybe he’s using a Canadian pharmacy for his crack.

  35. Swiftee Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 5:42 PM

“Maybe he’s using a Canadian pharmacy for his crack.”

Word on the street is that Angry Al is supplying all the “crack” that Leroy and Johnson need.

You are clearly correct. Probably a NY street dealer (who doubles as a signer of letters).

  37. Coleman Exposer Says:

Hey Mikey, did you have anything to do with this little misstep in Norm’s first campaign?

  39. Mark Gisleson Says:
    June 23rd, 2008 at 6:17 PM

What’s to apologize for? The whole greenscreen fight was meant to highlight the UNUSUALNESS OF LAURIE COLEMAN ACTUALLY BEING IN MINNESOTA.

Mom lives and works in L.A. Dad lives and works in D.C. The kids live in St. Paul.

Explain these Republican family values to me again, because when I was being raised as a Republican by my Farm Bureau Mom and Dad, they both shared a bedroom and slept together every night.

Why can’t Norm Coleman say the same about his wife? Too busy tapdancing at the airport?

Some married couples live apart, most of the time for career reasons. Mark Penn even wrote about it in Microtrends.

The reality here is that Democrats are so desparate to tear down family values that nothing is off limits to them.

    Mark Gisleson said:

“Explain these Republican family values to me again, because when I was being raised as a Republican by my Farm Bureau Mom and Dad, they both shared a bedroom and slept together every night.”

Please tell me you don’t think:

“family values” == “slept together every night”

I think that’s just called “normal”. Mark Gisleson , but being “normal” doesn’t make something a “family value” (much less a “Republican family value”.

When I read “I was being raised as a Republican” I laughed a bit. “Sonny, you’re seven now, and it’s time you memorized the planks in the Republican party platform”.

what is worse Michael, allegations about a US veteran smoking crack or what Leroy said about Coleman’s kids not going to school in Minnesota?

    cough~~double standard~cough cough

  44. Leroy Jenkins Says:

    Troy-

So if where parents sleep is of no concern to the family values party, why are they so damn concerned when the people in question are of the same sex?

  45. el presidente Says:
    June 24th, 2008 at 1:28 AM

Because it gets expensive to fly from LAX, to MSP, to drink pretend coffee, and tell Norm to:

“Take out the papers and the trash,
Or you don’t get no spendin’ cash.
If you don’t scrub that kitchen floor,
You ain’t gonna rock ‘n roll no more.

You’ll probably have to explain what you mean by “concerned”, Leroy Jenkins.
