Cindy Lesher, president of the host committee, along with St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak will held (sic) a news conference this morning at Peavey Plaza in Minneapolis at which they will sign a proclamation declaring this week as ‘Volunteer Sign Up Week.’ Cindy Lesher, president of the host committee, will announce a prize package for those who recruit the most volunteers.” Source: Star Tribune, June 23, 2008

Thanks for the tip. I logged onto the link and filled out the info after seeing your first posting. Based on the info the requested, it looks like they are going to be extra cautious on security checks.

Great letter to the editor in the Star Tribune today about this very issue:
GOP comes calling Not much purple here
Call me partisan if you must, but it seems funny that the Republican National Convention is coming up about 4,000 volunteers short (“Volunteer help wanted, no matter your politics,” June 24). Their cynical pick of St. Paul for their convention, with their wishful thinking that Minnesota is a swing state, was standard arrogant procedure as far as I’m concerned.
The best reaction to their call for more volunteers could be to completely ignore them, as they have ignored us. With 80 percent of Americans thinking the country is heading in the wrong direction, the GOP will find that the only purple in our state is the Vikings.
